Anyway, thanks everyone for letting me blather about my novel. It’s not a life crisis or anything but it’s certainly occupying enough of my mind.
Don’t underrate its importance – sure, not a life crisis but writing a novel is a huge thing, especially with historical research involved. (I enjoyed the research at least as much as the writing, back in the day.)
Change is good, change is great, change works great for novels you’re working on for a long period of time when you miss things and need to resolve stuff and other people point this out.
Dilution? Not so much.
What I’d do is keep 2 versions, one changed and one not so, for final comparison. Allows you to get on with the “This is what other people think need to get done” and still have the “This is what it actually is”.
I’m also wondering, are they pushing the changes because HEY COMMERCIAL or because they think it actually improves the story?
Because watering shit down on the “it wouldn’t sell” line is so much shit, and doesn’t work. My bff had an agent try to pull that with her fourth book, the start of a new series, and was all “this isn’t going to sell” and generally being a shit.
She ignored him and the book is now in print.

After about ten years in one of the more remote full towns in Australia I’m moving back to WA in December. We were really luck, some friends of the family are moving to Exmouth so we’re renting their house. It’ll be a hassle of course but It’ll be nice being close to civilization again, plus for the first time ever our family is hosting the Christmas get together.
On going to the corner shop, I found a lab dog tied up outside. It was over-eager for any attention, so found myself scritching ears as it leapt to lick my face. In doing so, it escaped the harness tying it outside, and immediately headed inside in search of it’s human. 🙂
There’s a sweet old husky mix on the walking path between the fire station (home sweet home) and two of the non-live-in volunteers’ home: they’re married, with kids. I think there’s something in the SOP’s about not letting kids live somewhere with tons of saws, sharp objects, toxic substances, and suchlike…
I visit them a lot, because it’s a two minute walk, the lady-volunteer and I motivate each other to work out, and…
That dog runs up to me and begs for pets every time. When I try to move on, he hops up, follows me just a few steps, and bumps my hands lightly with this nose, like “Pleasepleasepleaseplease just another minute?”
He is such a sweetie.
Today I made miso soup for the first time in a dog’s age, and omg, it was so good. So good! I’ve missed miso so much! I didn’t even know how much until just now!
When I am old and grey (let’s face it, I’m never going to afford to retire) I should hope that I never get stampeded to the polls by some fake news service screaming about how we’re all going to die.
Bitter? Maybe. The Constitution of Tennessee now specifically states that it does not protect a right to an abortion.

Yes, that’s the opening I didn’t like at all. I allowed it to be used in the contest in case it turns out to be secretly brilliant but I don’t have high hopes. No action yet.
So what happens with that now Katz? Do you need votes? Or is it being judged by the site?
