Mmmmm…beef bourguignon, very good idea. Winter Is Coming…
On the plus side you could go to bed now and wake up to a really good meal?
Thanks, kittehserf and katz. Those are some good ideas, grumpyoldnurse and Unimaginative. It’s true, he could just be a generic cowboy. There’s no rule that says he has to be a specific character. He does love Jessie, but I could probably give him some jeans and a button down shirt and tell him it’s one of Jessie’s other outfits, and he’d buy it.
Pirate might also be doable in a pinch. We have some bandanas and an eye patch he got at a birthday party.
Unimaginative – Yum. The house will smell great when you wake up.
I’m having a frustrating week, so I’m going to help myself to a leaf full of Honduran white bats.

Yep, I’ll be dreaming of breakfast 🙂
Oh, come on, now! Where are all these plushie animals coming from? My dreams are going to be SO. WEIRD. tonight.
Tell us how it turns out, please, Buttercup. Costumes can be so frustrating!
It’s weird how animals as cute as bats came to have so many negative associations.
Anything that eats mosquitoes is better than good, in my book! And, yes, they are cute.

This is relevant to one of the other threads, but I forgot which one it was and I figure all the regulars eventually show up here, anyway…
I think I owe you an apology for jumping down your throat for the bad joke.
I don’t remember how I worded it, but I wanted to make sure I let you know that I don’t think so badly of you that I’d assume you were intentionally making a racist joke. My reading of it was heavily skewed by being a little too close to the subject material (Ebola fascinated me for 3 years as a middle-schooler and heavily influenced my decision to go into biology. Between it and sharks…).
As a result, and due to working casually for the local hospital and volunteering with the ambulance service, I’ve gotten every single news update about what this virus is doing. The chances of it reaching here is really, really, slim, but we still are prepping for it anyway. I’ve also been exposed to far, far, far too many people online, on tv, and one absolutely awful person in meat-space who do use it as a racist “Ebola is totally a Black People problem that they’re inflicting on the rest of the world” type thing or a “why don’t you sleep with a [racial slur redacted], get ebola, and die already” nonsense.
It colored my gut reaction, and I was probably way too hasty and way too emotional when I wrote my response to your joke.
I’m really, really sorry.
I don’t think I accused you of being racist, but I might have worded it in a way that implied that. If I did, then that was a really awful move of mine.
I haven’t been back to the thread, so I don’t know for sure how you took it, and I don’t really remember for sure how I worded my “AHHHH FLAIL FEELS” response, but I feel like I owe you the apology.
So, yeah.
Sorry.
I’m a contrapangloss eating feet today…

Contrapangloss,
No worries!
Oh dear, kitty!
Haha, that poor kitty!
I’m all bummed out about my novel right now. I really don’t like some of the changes that have happened to it in this contest and I don’t think it will do well in the final round.
Changes imposed by the contest, katz?
Yup.
Damn. 🙁 Fingers and toes crossed for you.
Bummer.
I take it you’ve still got all the work you did pre-change, plotlines and so on?
Damn. I hope your novel recovers. It’s weird, how your relationship with it can change.
Yeah, I could change it all back, but the trouble is they’re changing it to be more appealing to agents and publishers. So I am in the classic bind of writing the book I want to write versus writing the book that I can sell.
(If anyone is wondering whether this is related to my earlier freakout about reading about torture: Yes. Yes, it is.)
Ugh. That really sucks.
Damn, that stinks.
How major are the changes they’re pushing?
Pretty major, and there are a lot of them. The moral ambiguity is getting minimized, the Soviet politics and a lot of the world building have been cut, the side characters’ plots are getting reduced in order to expand the main romance…in short, it’s becoming conventional.
Sounds like it’s reached the point of “Do I really want to try publishing this version?” Which is feeling more important: trying to get this version in to push for publication, or working on the story you need to write? (Disclaimer: I’m biased.)
