Add peaches and do a fresh tomato, pepper, peach salsa. Delicious: http://natashaskitchen.com/2013/09/03/fresh-peach-salsa-recipe/
Hugs for anyone who needs one.
Also, my favorite salsa recipe for anyone who needs one:
Salsa Fresca
Makes 2 cups, or 6 appetizer servings with chips
4 medium ripe tomatoes, cored, seeded and finely diced
1/4 red onion, minced
2 jalapeno chiles, stemmed, seeded if desired and minced
1 bunch cilantro, leaves only, chopped
2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice
3/4 teaspoon salt
pinch of freshly ground black pepper
Combine all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl. Stir and toss well, and serve. Store in a covered container in the refrigerator no more than 1 day.
Can also add chunks of avocado to this when serving if, like me, you adore avocado and put it in everything.
No, no, no, no, NO!
I loathe cilantro leaves.
The seeds are fine, but the leaves are far too much like parsley. Which I loathe.
I LOVE cilantro. I’ll take all of your unused cilantro, and you can have all of my uneaten beets.
I LOVE beets. I’ll trade you for some gingerbread pancakes.
I LOVE cilantro too. I’ve always found it really interesting that some people hate it and say it tastes like soap. It tastes nothing like soap to me. It’s weird how apparently people’s tastebuds can be divided into cilantro tastes heavenly/cilantro tastes like soap.
I also really like parsley. I always feel said for it that it’s mostly left on the plate as “garnish” when I find it so yummy.
And I’m going to need some salsa really soon if I keep looking at this thread.
I don’t particularly like beets, but I don’t loathe them either. Still, trading them for gingerbread pancakes sounds like a pretty good trade.
One of my best friends was drunk & maudlin at a party, and felt like she was being ignored in a conversation. So she very melodramatically announced, “I’m like the parsley on the plate of life. Everyone just ignores me, or pushes me off to the side!”
And now her nickname is Parsley.
More seriously, I work with a bunch of Armenians & Iranians, and anytime we have a potluck there are usually a couple of warring versions of tabbouleh on the table. Problem: I love that stuff, but the thought of laboriously chopping all that parsley puts me off making it. Solution: Work with a bunch of Iranians and Armenians.
*raises hand for BOTH* It does remind me of soap, and the first time I tried it, I hated it. But then I moved to the big city and learned the wonder that is dim sum, and now I love, love, LOVE cilantro.
A tip for making salsa (or pico di gallo) that I learned from the Food Network: First put the chopped onions in your mixing bowl, then the lime juice, and let them macerate while you’re chopping the rest. The lime juice will take the sharpness out of the onion, and you’ll have a more mellow, but still flavourfull and zingy mouthful.
katz, I live in San Diego. I was browsing the website for the Rescue House to get some ideas. That’s certainly a lot for me to think about! Even if I can’t do it right away, I would definitely like to do it in the future. In the meantime, I could always volunteer at rescues and shelters and help out on site. I just wanna help kitties. And cuddle them. I’m selfish like that. Hehehe.
*shakes head at cilantro-hating heathens*
No pico de gallo for YOU!
II like cilantro in both its’ Mexican and Vietnamese uses. Tofu spring rolls…nomnomnom.
@ redpoppy, I just end up rescuing kittens off of freeways. How that happens usually? Kittens hide inside vehicles, then get taken for inadvertent rides… I seem to get 2 to 3 a year. Neighbor has a large horse barn ATM, I think she will accept the current munchkin.
Anyway, keep your eyes peeled for kittens in the center lane.
Sparky, I know the first word that baby will say – “Pleh! pleh!”
Hey, I have a job interview on Monday, and possibly two. First is with the job agency, then I’ll find out if I get one with the employer. Fingers crossed!
Good luck, Kittehs! Or break a leg, whichever suits best.
Good luck with your interview kittehserf! We’re doing lots of job interviewing around here these days!
So, here’s a test of how sincere the manosphere is to actually help men when there’s not an obvious way to blame women for their problems:
Here’s a really informative, but harrowing, article about the problem of male rape in the military (obviously a huge TRIGGER WARNING for sexual and non-sexual violence, victim-blaming, gender policing, other associated bullshit – I didn’t even put the TITLE of the article because it’s a phrase that could be triggering as hell).
Let’s see if this picks up any traction within the MRM as a problem that requires serious attention. For a group that’s awfully fond of throwing around the accusation that feminists “don’t care about male rape victims”, I’m very skeptical of them bothering to address this issue unless there’s an anti-woman angle they can exploit somewhere.
Good luck, Kitteh!
Thanks, everyone!
It’s a student enrolment officer job. Sounds fairly complex, but if I get it, I’ll be on nearly twice the salary I was, and far more than any job I’ve ever had. Here’s hoping!
Strivingally, that was a harrowing article indeed, just horrific.
No, I don’t see any of the MRM’s keyboard heroes doing a single solitary thing to help those men. Their only real concern with rape is making it easier for men to rape women and get away with it.
blahlistic- Believe it or not, I have never run across either a cat(s) or kitten(s) on the freeway or any other place. I ALWAYS look into boxes that are on the side of the road or any other place where it has been abandoned to see if there are any kitties in there. I look in general, but so far, I haven’t found any in my whole life. To some degree, I’m happy. It breaks my heart to see kitties without a forever home. Especially when they are so small and vulnerable. The freeways here in SoCal are a nightmare so I am sure i’d piss everyone off on the road because I am that fool who would nearly crash to save a kitty. Hehehe.
That’d be me too, if I drove!
I got my license last year and, yeah, my instructor kept warning me that I’d fail if I risked human lives to save a snapping turtle or badger. I DON’T CARE. Lucky there were no cute creatures on the road during my test.
I’m afraid I’d be willing to risk human lives if an animal was on the road – especially if it was a rare or endangered species, which far too many of ours are.
So, random diversion, I was thinking of putting together another Go teaching session similar to the one I did a couple weeks ago, only with better planning. Anyone interested?
I was thinking of doing it on Saturday, so it’d be easier to plan around time-zone differences and work schedules. Same idea as last time; I’ll set up a room on KGS for mamotheeers only, do some teaching as people show up, then people can stick around and play or just chat.
I guess let me know here if you want to join in, and what times would work best for you? I’ll comment with the starting time Friday-ish, then specific instructions on accessing the room a little bit before the start time.
Yay Go!
P.S.
If anyone want’s to do some pre-gaming, there are a bunch of good go tutorials online. Below are some nice sites. I can still go over all the rules and such on the day of.
http://www.playgo.to/iwtg/en/ – Great introduction with little playable Go problems as part of the lessons
http://www.learngo.co.uk/GoTutor/Tutor.php – Another great interactive tutorial, seems to be a little shorter but faster paced
http://www.goproblems.com/ – Amazing problems website with tons of problems and a rank tracker that increases as you get correct answers. I find it indespensible, but the problems don’t always have great explanation.
https://www.youtube.com/user/nicksibicky/videos
If you know the basics and/or want to dive right into strategy and full-game stuff, these guys have great lecture videos. They’re definitely not beginner level (top probably a little more accessible), and they tend to be long (top tends around an hour to an hour an a half, bottom tends half an hour to an hour), but if you’ve got some time to spend or just want to get a taste of what Go is really like (especially at the higher levels), they are some of the few Go lecturers on youtube.
Plus, sometimes they play games and do live commentary on them. So, you know, you get to watch someone play and win and have no idea how or why.
P.P.S.
Vague possibility of hearing my beautiful voice now that I’m a little less sick, if I can get my microphone to work. It’d most likely happen on a G+ hangout, since google has apparently decided that video chat with more than one person isn’t for the plebs anymore, but another chat services could be used as well.
P.P.P.S.
Crossing fingers that urls don’t auto embed or do any wackiness…
kitteh/marinerachel, We’d be a menace to society because we brake for animals! Only anarchy would ensue.
kirbybootsy, that sounds awesome. I just wish there wasn’t an upcoming heatwave for my area this weekend. I don’t have AC so I am going to become a squatter at Starbucks/Barnes and Noble until the evening. I don’t own a laptop. But I would love to join the next time you do it.
