Well, it’s labor day, at least here in the US, so while we all enjoy a day without labor in honor of labor, I thought I would offer this photographic tribute to our nation’s hard-working cats.
Of course, some cats find ways to goof off while on the clock, and we salute them as well!
The mighty proleteri-cat!
Kittehs of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your collars.
Soooo… No post about the recent iCloud disaster and public reaction to it?
My cat is currently working hard keeping my bed warm.
The work of running the universe is never done!
@Shadow Nirvana
Ask us again when it’s an iCat disaster.
The cat in the hard hat must be a male. After all male cats do dangerous work so females can lounge around eating cat treats and watching bird and squirrel TV.
If you email David the info and web links he might cover it. But then again he might not – it’s up to David what he covers because it’s his blog.
Except the laborers who are making the food and running the tills so you can eat out and shop on your day off. Please bear that in mind if you go out today. Service people are very unlikely to have today off because it’s such a busy money-spending day. When I worked in the restaurant industry, “labor day” always felt like a joke at my expense.
(I also have to work today, but that’s because animals don’t stop being sick on holidays).
These damn kittens, taking jobs from us hoomins!
Hey everybody! I am still not really sane enough to be among other humans, but I’m trying to pull out of it by throwing my promised bonus writeathon! The theme is service and servitude.
‘Serve’ is one of the most versatile words in the English language. It’s everywhere. To serve others is a noble ambition, but servants are considered the opposite of noble. A server might involve computers, your restaurant dinner, or volleyball. Who or what do we serve, and how? What does it mean to serve? Perhaps this writeathon, we’ll find out!
This writeathon will be taking prompts until the 7th! Feel free to toss shit my way and make me write what you want to read.
And this is a trash comment going to the mods so they know that WP is being a dickbutt again and approve my new writeathon URL.
HOLY FUCKBALLS WORDPRESS DIDN’T EAT ME THIS TIME
PRAISE BOOTSY
” it’s up to David what he covers because it’s his blog.”
Obviously. If my tone came out disrespectful, I’m sorry.
I’m talking about the iCloud hack of 20 famous actresses’ accounts and distribution of their nude and sexual photos over 4chan, reddit and twitter, pretty much with glee and not much opposition, complete with victim-blaming, judgementalness and accusation of whiteknighting(to the people who opposed). Although I can’t provide links, I think, nor do I really want to do that in the first place. Also, twitter has suspended some accounts so there’s that. I don’t know if the hack itself is really a feminist issue, but the public reaction definitely seemed to be.
Urg, the iCloud thing. As usual, the dudebros on Reddit think it’s terrible if anyone threatens their internet privacy, while at the same time they think it’s totally fine for them to share and fap over stolen personal photos of women they find attractive. I don’t know if David will cover it, but I agree that the whole public reaction demonstrates a real sense of entitlement to use women’s bodies without their consent.
Maybe I’ll just watch cat videos for a while.
Shadow, here is the follow-up to this story, showing that 4channers can do something right sometimes (though maybe unintentionally), as they exposed the dweeb behind it:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2739889/I-not-American-software-engineer-forced-deny-hacker-stole-100-celebrities-nude-photos-tried-resell-online-100.html
BTW, the hard-working kitties are inspirational.
Oh, and of course Reddit is doing nothing to the accounts of the people repeatedly posting all the hacked photos, or about the subs that were created explicitly to share the photos after more mainstream subs started deleting the pictures and banning the posters. It’s a shitstorm.
Is the Cat Central Headquarters hiring? ‘Cause I’d really like to work in an office full of cats.
That iCloud thing is just so ugghh. Why, people, why? Why does anyone think posting stolen nude photos of anyone is anything other than creepy?
LBT! Hi! Sorry your brain is not feeling well but we are all thinking of you.
So I need to bring a side dish to some friends that are soy, gluten, dairy, and egg-free. Anyone got a recipe?
@katz,
For pot-lucks, I have one for spicy prawn cauliflower rice which always goes down well. Mostly because the idea of rice made from cauliflower usually makes people go, “Say whaaaaat?”
Or if you like a sweet side there’s chocolate avocado mousse. Mmm.
What about baba ganoush?
Misha:
Whaaaaat? I am intrigued by the idea of rice made from cauliflower. Can you tell me more?
I wonder if that’s truly the guy. Can’t believe someone hacking iCloud could get caught so easily.
Why obviously illegal stuff like this doesn’t get moderated more severely on social media sites, I have no idea. Well, I do, but it would mean that owners and moderators just don’t care if the stuff that brings them popularity is illegal or at least highly unethical. Is it just too unreal to expect a mature response like “Okay, this stuff is someone’s private life, I will not trespass or share this.” I’m not even talking about actively opposing such things. Just, not victim-blaming and not being an active accomplice of a trampling of human rights. I guess it’s too much.
Sorry for droning on about this. I just really feel worn out and a bit depressed about this ordeal. I’ve ridden this comment section too astray, I think. 😛
I’m pretty glad I’m not working today, since I work retail and that means I get stuck working a lot of holidays.
@katz, You could do a bagna cauda with assorted roasted veggies, or broccoli rabe with pine nuts (and raisins, or bacon), I used to do a nice shredded carrot salad and might be able to rustle up the recipe, sauteed plantains, there are Asian variations of coleslaw that would work…
Now I’m hungry.
