I don’t usually post raw videos from the insufferable assholes I write about on this site because, well, they’re insufferable assholes, and listening to them smugly opine about shit they’re completely ignorant about is generally about as entertaining as, you know, GirlWritesWhat videos. (I know, that’s a bit circular, but I really couldn’t come up with anything more insufferable than that.)
Anyhoo, I’ve broken my rule and posted this video because the two guys who made this video — the would-be filmmaking duo of jordanowen42 and Davis Aurini — are so over-the-top in their insufferable assholism that it’s actually kind of perversely charming.
You see, these two woman-hating YouTube blabbers — the first a belligerent doofus whose apartment is nearly as unkempt as mine, the other a sort of PUA version of Anton LaVey — are pitching what they claim will be an important new documentary exposing the evil “Social Justice Warrior” agenda of evil women and traitor men like Anita Sarkeesian, Zoe Quinn, and, well, I can’t remember the names of any of the men. It’s called The Sarkeesian Effect. And they want your money to fund it.
Their promised “feature-length documentary” will be a powerful work of investigative journalism that will give a voice to the voiceless — to the “silent majority” of, well, angry white dudes who spend whatever time they don’t spend playing video games posting obnoxious and abusive comments about Anita Sarkeesian and Zoe Quinn to YouTube and Reddit and eleven zillion other websites that cater to them.
In other words, this is the loudest “silent majority” I’ve ever run across.
But these are guys who love to pretend that their bold thoughts are being silenced, and PUA Anton LaVey Davis Aurini happily panders to their persecution complex:
Don’t let these people silence us. Your contribution will be a defiant strike against the degeneration and corruption that is going on in this world.
The word “degeneration” helps remind us that Aurini considers himself a part of the neo-Nazi-lite “Dark Enlightenment.”
Anyway, they argue that you should send them lots of money, because PUA Anton LaVey’s suits can’t be cheap you’ll be striking a blow for every dude who’s ever called Anita Sarkeesian a “whore” in a YouTube comment. Well, they don’t literally put it that way, but, you know, come on. That’s what they mean.
And hey, who wouldn’t trust this dude with their hard-earned cash?
I found this video hilarious from start to finish. Stick with it at least until, a little after 6 minutes in, PUA Anton LaVey Aurini lights up his second cigarette, showing what a devil-may-care attitude he has by mumbling his lines with a cigarette in his mouth as he fiddles with his lighter.
Yep, that’s the kind of quality investigative journalism you can expect from these two.
@Jarred H: Didn’t answer mine either, but I guess all don’t get what we want, do we?http://www.fightersgeneration.com/nx9/char/mai-kof13-win-animation.gif
@kirbywarp I got to 1:36 when he was like “JOSEPH CAMPBELL, on the other hand…” because Campbell’s been discredited.
So, I guess M. Shirunai is conceding that they didn’t make any actual points.
Good thing that’s cleared up.
Joseph Campbell just struck me as irelevent, without knowing anything else. Talking about hero motivations doesn’t address talking about the distressed damsel at all.
Also, the “Feature Film” thing seems… odd. I bet Youtube has a much wider reach than theaters for any indie documentary, especially such a weird, and probably ill-done (if ever actually completed) one as they are proposing. I get the sense that they want to either use the feature release for credibility (in which case I should point out the What the Bleep Do We Know was released in theaters, and that was a steaming pile of bullcrap) or they want to outdo Sarkeesian on the respectability scale.
But, see, her videos are free on youtube for a reason. See, she actually wants people to learn from her videos, and free on the internet is always more readily available than $10 a seat in three theaters nationwide.
Shiranui: Find a point and make it.
For extra credit, summarize the video’s arguments against Anita Sarkeesian.
I know we shouldn’t mock on looks, but srsly Mr. Aurani looks like someone threw Anton LaVey and Christopher Walken’s Continental into the telepods from The Fly.
Anton LaVey factoid: He was a circus guy– specifically, a barker, the guy whose job is to come up with a spiel to attract paying customers– before he founded his Church. Which I think says a lot.
Oh look, we have a petulant, foot-stompy Menz Rightzer trolling us again! And of course, no answer anyone gives is ever satisfactory.
Color me so shocked.
I’ll be honest, there’s a part of me that wonders if this isn’t really just one huge con to get money out of a bunch of angry dudebro gamers. I’m envisioning countless “technical problems” and “outrageous attempts to censor us” in the future of this project.
“I don’t think the damsel denigrates women, it’s just an easy plot device”
“Most game players and developers are male so most protagonists are male, ergo games are a male space and it’s TOTALLY NOT SEXIST OKAY?!”
“The damsel in distress shows how much men love the women in their lives”
“I think this says something good about men and male values”
“These stories cannot be REMOVED from their cultural context!”
“Because women are more likely to be victimized, they always will be… if women were stronger than men, I don’t doubt that men would be disproportionately victimized.”
“Anything that men do that can be misconstrued as sexism, will be”
– sample points from the Amazing Atheist.
Hasn’t there already been one anti-Sarkeesian video fundraising effort that lead to the raisers running off with the funds?
The points I heard were:… The “social justice warriors” were dominating the debate, They were going to expose the truth about the lives of SJW’s, undefined people were trying to silence this Dynamic Duo, and they should be sent money.
(apparently, a LOT of money)
They said they’d be accountable for that money, but did not elaborate how.
The two of them do not seem to know how to compose a good persuasive essay :always state your points in one sentence apiece in the first paragraph, elaborate and flesh out each sentence with a paragraph in the body of the essay, reiterate the points in the end paragraph.
The hamburger essay, as per my awesome high school English teacher.
Also, they don’t seem to be effectively silenced. Nope. In fact I expect them to be very loud.
I would never endorse a move to shut anyone up. Freedom of speech is something I believe in.
Listen, I didn’t SAY they made any arguments (not literally at least, although you guys seem to have trouble understanding that). That wasn’t the point of what I was saying. I was poking fun at Dave and how he seemed to know next to nothing about these guys, or the content they produce, and instead stoop to personal insults, and name-calling and claiming they somehow represent harasses and bullies. These guys were making something critical of Anita Sarkeesian, so therefore, in Dave’s mind, they must be misogynists, despite having little to no evidence to back it up. The whole arguments thing was just something I threw in there because I was in the moment, and exactly thinking about what I was saying. I may not have worded it correctly, and the message may have been somewhat muddled. I said something I didn’t mean/believe in. Because hey, its a promotional video for their project, it’s not suppose to contain any arguments. They’re supposed to raise the issue, introduce the project, ask for donations/support and that’s it, just like Sarkeesian did. I hope that clears it up, although, from what I’ve seen from you all today, it probably won’t. So… Sayōnara!

Yeah, I think I made it through 5 seconds of that video before I was laughing too hard to continue.
OMG LOL.
Wow, that was a flounce right there. Let’s see if he sticks it.
Any bets on whether M. Shiranui sticks the flounce?
Or maybe a betting pool on how long before we see another comment would be more interesting/lucrative?
Because video game critics aren’t a dime a dozen on YouTube.
See, he didn’t say they actually made any arguments to refute, just that David didn’t refute said non-existent points.
Being against a woman because she is discussing misogyny in popular culture is in and of itself a pretty good indication of misogyny.
Tell me, why does it bother you so much that she is pointing out sexism in video games? It’s rampant and obvious to anyone with 2 brain cells to rub together. Why is so threatening to you when someone points it out? Why does it make you and so many other men angry? What does that say about you?
Bucko, when you say we have to respond to arguments, it’s implicit that they made some. You know how logic and language work, right?
A flounce so soon?
I am Teh Disappoint.
You know…I have a suspicion you may be right…
…Though it’s also possible they’d end up mismanaging a sincere project and doing a horrible job while wasting a lot of money.
In the YouTube comments, Jordan said they’re going to try to interview Ezra Levant. For those unfamiliar with him, he’s an offensive, right-wing bigot on Canada’s version of Fox News.

LOL
When asked why he calls himself a non-MRA, Jordan said:
Yet two FeMRAs are there flogging their bullshit.
