That last post was a bit, well, grim. So I thought I’d lighten the mood with some terrible, terrible memes from A Voice for Men’s Facebook page. They’re so Men’s Human Rightsy that you can practically smell the human rights wafting off of them!
Or could that be the powerful and obnoxious odor of mendacity?
Either way, enjoy! For a fun game, see how many different examples of ideas that do not actually enhance human rights you can find in the memes below! For example, I found both misogyny and transphobia! See what else you can find!
This last one is kind of my favorite. Fuck you, mom! I took out the garbage last week!
Thanks, Fibi, cannot unsee.
These dudes have less than no design sense. How the hell does that happen?
Also, the industrial revolution liberated women? Tell that to women of color in the US.
@kirbywarp
Because the point of the meme is to whine about the poor menz?
@strivingally
They’re birds of a feather.
Geez, lady. I got you all this nice stuff and you still won’t shut up and put out. I’m being horribly oppressed!
/sarcasm
Bingo. Of course, “those sluts should just keep their legs shut” directly contravenes that OTHER great tenet of theirs: “Butbutbut I have NEEDS!!!!”
Also, fun trivia factoid: The birth control pill was first proposed by a woman, Margaret Sanger. And scientists obliged her by looking at what other women, indigenous Mexicans no less, were doing to prevent conception via the oral route: with a brew made from wild Mexican yams. So if any of those dudes want to scream “But we gave you the pill, you ungrateful bitches!”, we can truthfully reply that no, they did NOT. Mexican native women did, and Margaret Sanger facilitated the process by which it became industrialized!
I’m pretty sure all of these can pretty much be summed up thus:
“I was raised and taught that women and men should be a certain way, and women aren’t sticking to their pigeonhole! I don’t like that! Women have to act the way I believe they should or EVERYTHING IS WRONG AND IT’S ALL THE FAULT OF WOMEN!!!~!~!~”
Also, how do these jerks still not realise that saying “any given women has no way of knowing if any given man is a rapist” is NOT the same as saying “all men are assumed to be rapists until proven otherwise”? Not all dogs are going to bite me, but you’re damn right I won’t just approach any random dog unless I think it’ll be okay, and even when I do I’ll still be on the lookout for warning signs it might not be as harmless as I first thought. And I get to choose my level of risk tolerance – there might be other people unwilling to approach dogs they don’t know at all, and that’s perfectly fine.
This is not the same as me claiming all dogs are dangerous or can’t be trusted. And for the bad-faith trolls who love to see slurs that aren’t there, I’m not calling men dogs either. It’s called an analogy.
@Lady Mondegreen: What’s that you say? The MRAs responsible for silly memes like this aren’t actually personally responsible for the Industrial Revolution?
Don’t you get it? The men who built the Industrial Revolution had a Penis. Neil Armstrong had a Penis. Sir Edmund Hilary had a Penis. I have a Penis. Therefore we are JUST THE SAME and I share in their accomplishments.
If you only had a 2 inch flaccid lump of flesh, you too could be a Hero. But you’re just a hater, you feminist!
They don’t contradict at all. You just have to read it as “Those sluts should just keep their legs shut for men who aren’t me”.
I love how ignorant of history these fools are. And by love I mean hate. A prime example of the feeeemales doing MANLY JOBS is Ada Lovelace. Where would we be without her today? Hedy Lamarr? Grace Cooper? Probably not on the internet complaining about those icky wimminz.
Indeed. And THAT is the problem to begin with!
But I don’t think these guys even get the meaning of choice,
Women weren’t innovators and inventors because society pretty much didn’t allow them to be, in most cases…and did not acknowledge them when they were.

But, you know, that’s facts. The MRAs prefer their own brand of truthiness.
The first meme on their facebook page at the moment says ‘fight for your rights’.
Mmm,how could they do this I wonder. Well just a few suggestions-
Be rational and help bring attention to male rape, prison rape in particular.
Do the same regarding male victim’s of DV.
Organise a fundraiser where instead of the money going into the black hole of Elam’s pocket,it goes toward a shelter or helpline (even both) for above.
Get together with feminist’s to get rid of damaging gender roles. This will solve a few issues mainly to do with childcare and traditionally feminine/masculine career’s.
But as far as they’re concerned they’ve already done loads of work by clicking the like button.
Wow 13000 likes,now that’s what I call a revolution.
I hope you people don’t mind I share a bit of something on human rights here.
Today we found the 114th grandchild stolen by the civilian-military dictatorship in Argentina.
During the 1970s, the most violent coup d’Etat in our country took place. They were determined to annihilate that silly democracy thing everyone was talking about.
And they took the annihilation part rather literally: thousands of people were kidnapped, murdered and “disappeared”.
But it wasn’t enough for them to erase a whole generation of political activists (and artists and students and journalists and…). They kidnapped hundreds of pregnant women and then waited for the children to be born before murdering them.
And then, they gave those children to “good” families, usually those of military or police officers, to raise them as their own.
Over 300 children were reported stolen this way, and only a bit over 100 were found so far, and it’s been already 30 years.
Two branches of pacifist protesters emerged during the dictatorship: Mothers and Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo (that’s where the government house is).
Grandmothers were those who had their daughters or daughters-in-law kidnapped while pregnant, while Mothers had only lost their daughters or sons.
Estela de Carlotto was one of the first Grandmothers, and is the current president of their association. She is the one who found her grandson today.
This is a tiny bit of our history recovered, a tiny healing in a giant wound, and a new reason for hope and to never give up.
Everyone is so deeply moved here, there’s so much happiness and joy but also a lot of pain and sorrow.
It is a bittersweet victory, but a victory nonetheless.
25 years after recovering our democracy, when many hoped everything would be forgotten already, Grandmothers still bring families together.
And in these moments, it’s as if the whole country was just one family.
Thank you for reading.
@Luzbelitx
I don’t know what to say. That is incredible. Thank you for sharing.
@Luzbeltix: I am so sorry for what happened to your country in the 1970s. Military dictatorships never go well for anyone but the military and the people they like. 🙁
All the hugs and kitties to you. I only wish I could offer more.
But don’t forget, 90% of rape accusations are false anyway, because women get cheap thrills from accusing innocent men (and all men are innocents who would never hurt women).
Not to mention that marital rape didn’t exist in law, and women were the property of their husbands. Refusing sex wasn’t exactly an easy proposition, even before you acknowledge that many women wouldn’t have thought they had the right to, however much they wanted to.
Luzbelitx, I was lucky enough to visit Argentina back around 2006, and remember reading about the bravery of the Mothers/Grandmothers of the disappeared. It is heartwarming that Estela de Carlotto has found her grandson. Thank you for sharing that story.
Anyone else read “women can be awesome” plastered over a picture of a thin young white woman with a guitar as “women can — and should — be the perfect girlfriend who lives in my imagination”?
@Viscaria: yes I read that into it – women can be awesome if they make my boner happy.
Reblogged this on Confusing Medical Science Since 1971.
I just realized I made a mistake. I meant Grace HOPPER. Ugh. Minus 10 Gryffindor.
I know it wasn’t the author’s intent, but my brain read the woman with the pink guitar as the woman who will never know what it’s like to be awesome, not as the woman who is awesome.
Back to that damn AVfM logo, for some reason it reminds me of the Zodiac Killer every single time I see it. Not helped by the fact it’s in red, and smeared, so it looks like blood.
Men’s Rights Movement: even the logo shouts “not really about rights”.
Thank you, Abacus, pallygirl and cloudiah! (hugs and kittens are very welcome as well 🙂 )
Despite the horribly sad past, this is a joyful moment. We have worked very hard to recover our collective memory, and Mothers and Grandmothers worked hardest of all.
Because many of them passed away before they found the truth, I’m really happy some of them still live to reunite with their families, and the bond they created with my own generation (born after we were already back to a democracy) cannot be broken.
The future looks a bit brighter today 🙂
Thank you again.
The first one is so bizarre that David has to use the caption to counter the natural “that can’t be real” first reaction to it.
This post did cheer me up, particularly the meme where they mangle the concept of social construct beyond recognition and then claim feminists don’t understand it. “Feminist Theory: Not as well considered as feminists think.” is very catchy and a total burn, well played random AVfM doofus.
“AVfM: More poorly considered by the minute”.
“AVfM: We really have no idea what we’re doing, please send money.”
