My mom keeps saying she has poor hearing and I don’t believe her. She keeps the TV at such a low volume you can’t even hear it unless the room is totally silent.

@Robert: sorry, I buy all mine and have never made it. But it’s the nicest way to eat beans. 🙂

@kitteh: yay for the new hearing aid. Has she got it now, or has it been ordered?

My vag is going to be so happy in a few days. I’m finished BV treatment and can resume having sex shortly. Hooray! At the very least, I’m going to enjoy the hell out of my biggest, pinkest, sparkliest dildo.

Woo for government paying for *something* kittehs! You hear the unemployment rates went up by almost half last month?

Is it mainly the public servants that are being turfed out that are doing that, or is mining the bigger contributor?

I have no idea but given the government has recently made receiving the “dole” even harder I am not fucking impressed.

Actually what I meant was unemployment rates have doubled, not gone up by half. It’s at 200% of June’s rate, not 150%

I have sunburn on one side of my chest now from the radiotherapy. So far, I’ve received just over 40 Gy. My nipple has been killing me for a few days and I have itchy pustules on my chest, again there for a couple of days. I got the nice registrar* again today, and he prescribed 1% hydrocortisone cream for the pustules – immediate relief. He referred me to the nurse to discuss options for my nipple, and I’m now using this (http://www.comvita.co.nz/healthcare/medihoney-range/wound-gel.html) in combination with an easy-to-remove dressing. So finally relief there as well, I’d been wearing nipple shields that nursing mothers used to try to stop the friction and therefore the pain.

*As well as being very nice, I was thinking his face looked similar to someone. Today I realised, he looks a bit like Brendan Fraser in The Mummy, although his English accent’s wrong. Apparently I am either the first to notice this, or the first to tell him.

wewereemergencies, yup, highest figures in a decade. Which takes it right back to the days of Saint Johnny Howard, Saviour of the Economy and Orstrayan Way of Life.

pallygirl, it’s everything. Mining jobs are disappearing, or being given (by fuckers like Gina Rinehart) to people on 457 visas. Manufacturing was gutted decades ago (thank you messrs. Hawke and Keating) but it’s getting worse, with Australian car manufacturing about to disappear. Everything’s going offshore.

The government seems to want people under 25 to die if they don’t have jobs. They’re trying to bring in rules that the dole is six months on, six months off – as in, you get no payment while unemployed. While you get money you’re expected to do Work for the Dole, so you won’t have time to hunt for work; you can hunt all you like when you’re getting nothing, but of course little matters like trying to stay alive might just distract you then. Oh, and Work for the Dole means you’re doing the same stuff that people on community-based orders – ie. convicted criminals – are doing. Working alongside them. That doesn’t mean some kid who’s been graffitiing, either; actual serious criminals sometimes get that feeble sort of sentence because our system is fucked. So, yeah, they couldn’t make it clearer that anyone who is out of work, anyone who is poor, is to be punished. They really are the GOP of this country. Bob “Reds under the Bed” Menzies was an out-and-out socialist compared with this lot.

ooh. I found a pic of the exact same fabric I bought.

@kitteh
I hope they are around-the-house trackies. Sometimes he thinks trackies are outside pants.

@pallygirl
The fabric I have would be too thick for that, but I do like those pants. they look super comfy. I might have to make some for myself – flannelette perhaps.

Uggh it gets me so mad that the government doesn’t actually give a fuck if I live or die kittehs. I’m lucky in that my parents can support me, but so many of my peers aren’t and NO-ONE CAN GET A FUCKING JOB! And now we can’t get support and uggh.

I just… this is not how you run a fucking country, and YOU have the hide to complain about US? Just… fuck you, everyone in government. How about actually serving the fucking public rather than serving your own egos?

That’s lovely fabric, Kim!

I’m with you, I hope he doesn’t think they’re for outdoors.

Pity you haven’t enough cloth to make a onesie for him, that might fix the problem. 😉

wewereemergencies, I know, it’s just sickening! These changes are beyond outrageous. It’s like, every fucking time the Liberals get back into government, they have to punish anyone they think might have voted Labor, any of the proles who got uppity and didn’t acknowledge that the Liberals are born to rule.

I didn’t think I could hate a PM more than I hated Howard, but I’ve hated Abbott with a passion ever since he got in as Opposition Leader.

Yeah how dare we start thinking that this is a democracy and we should probably look after and respect all people!

@kittehserf: It gets better! (and by better, of course, I mean much, much worse.)

Sex workers to have to wait longer to get dole

The two horrible, awful take-home points from this one for me:

1) The six-month waiting time starts from when you run out of savings, so you can’t even keep a little something aside to keep yourself alive.

2) The reduction in waiting times based on past work, in the current proposal, won’t count for employment that, among other things, “involves nudity or is in the sex industry; or is for the purpose of achieving election of the person to public office.”

Fucking hell.

Sounds like they’re not only punishing people for being in the sex industry (or, say, being an artist’s model), but for running for office if they aren’t wealthy.

Yeah, democracy, can’t be having that. Got to keep the 1% in power.

That sounds like a policy designed to push people attempting to leave the sex industry back into it to me.

Cassandra, yes, and imagine how many people are going to be pushed into the industry who weren’t in it before.

Did they offer any explanation as to why sex workers have to wait longer than everyone else? I’m not kidding btw, it really does sound like an attempt at social engineering to me.

I only know about it from strivingally’s comment, and that paper’s behind a paywall. Hang on, I’ll see if the Age has anything.
