In the comments section to philosopher-douchebag Stefan Molyneux’s review of Frozen, a self-described “attractive young woman” posts a review of his hour-long review that is so effusively positive that it almost sounds like it was posted by the man himself.
Oh, wait: he did post it himself.
Can this be real? I mean, it is real; I just went and got the screenshot. But is it really possible that Mr. M tried to sockpuppet in the comments to his own video, posing as his own biggest fan? Or did some worshipful young hottie sneak onto his laptop when he wasn’t looking and post the comment? What kind of “philosopher” does that? Did Jean-Paul Sartre send love letters to himself? Did Kierkegaard leave gushing messages on his own answering machine?
I think we can safely say “no,” at least to the latter, given that Mr. K died in 1855.
But what the hell, Stefan? I eagerly await your two-hour video explaining this one.
Also, if you could explain why my cell phone keeps randomly beeping, that would be great too. It’s really annoying.
(Thanks to everyone who sent this to me.)
UPDATE: I figured out the problem with my cell phone! Oh, and I have also been told that Stef’s self-congratulatory comment was actually a repost of a comment from someone else. He wasn’t pretending to be a young hottie. He was posting a quote from a young hottie without indicating in any way that it was a quote from someone other than him. Good job! So I’ve changed “written” to “posted” in the text above.
Now, though, I’m wondering if that person also wrote the comment that Stef used to introduce his video:
I mean, that has to be written by someone else, because what kind of arrogant douchenozzle would not only write about himself in the third person but also describe his own video as “must watch?” David Futrelle needs to know.
How many attractive young women refer to themselves as an “attractive young woman”? Thanks for the morning chuckle/eyeroll, Stef!
The gift that keeps on giving.
I’m trying to imagine how to use “being seen as nothing more than a sex doll” to “get over the system.” What system? The system that encourages women to be seen as nothing more than sex dolls?
We are several very attractive cats in a David suit. We are used to rubbing our cute soft bodies misandrically up against people’s legs to our advantage. We want to thank David Futrelle for guiding us to the true meaning of life with his wise and heroic blogging efforts
Wow, that’s hilarious! Thanks David, you made my morning!
I wonder how Mr. M is going to try to get himself out of this… hopefully more entertainment yet to come!
Hey, even if I share your disdains of Molyneux’s ideas and various political stances, this comment was actually a repost of another comment by an user called Lajune Macmillian. So even if it’s slightly ridiculous to compliment yourself like that, he is definitely not trying to impersonate or cheat anybody. Anyway, great blog 🙂
I saw this making the rounds on tumblr the other day and it about killed me. I mean if you’re going to go through the process of writing a glowing review of yourself at least have the brains to properly use sock accounts.
Being an 8.2, I understand what it’s like to succumb to the overwhelming alphaness of an impressively be-goggled fedoraling at the club once he has demonstrated his high value by insulting my nail art. Truly, I (as previously mentioned, totally a woman) am a testament to how well Stefan’s theories work. Buy his book/seminar/lunch at this link today!
Yeah, I guess you can “totally kinda” compare an animated Disney film to the grandiose ramblings of a self-published megalomaniac. They have about the same run time.
Now I want Stefan’s alternate persona to be forced to sing Let It Go and put the resulting video on YouTube.
Some of his fans are saying he’s quoting someone but if so it’s probably a fake account he’s quoting. Because what woman goes around saying “hai guys I’m an attractive young woman!!!” ? Not many.
Apparently Molyneux reposted this comment from his Google+ site, where it allegedly came from an actual person.
If Stefan ever wants to comment here that should be his personal challenge, having to provide us with a video of him singing Let It Go.
I’m really not buying the claim that it’s a totally real comment from a real live attractive young woman. It’s really easy to tell when a troll is faking being a woman.
@bunnybunny Somehow, I don’t buy that story. I mean, who goes around flat out stating they’re an attractive young woman? Normally when a woman is defending crap like this it starts with “I’m a woman, and I…” and even then I often doubt that some of these things come from actual women, you know?
I’m curious… what does he claimis the “truth” about Frozen? I’m not going to subject myself to the video, but if anyone else has already done so I’d be interested in reading a recap.
I agree this doesn’t sound like a real person at all (on YT, G+ or elsewhere).
It totally set off my “this sound like a straw woman/feminist” alarm
I wonder how long it took him to realize that repeatedly clicking refresh wouldn’t increase his videos’ total views tally.
Even if it is a totally real quote from an actual “attractive young woman” who the fuck would repost it on their own youtube video.
Someone who requires constant validation.
@maistrechat
I watched about two minutes in the middle where he droned on and on about how ridiculous it was that, at one point, Anna saves Kristoff (and herself) from wolves. This apparently plays to “female vanity,” because Anna is naive and Kristoff is a wilderness man type person. Even though he spends the rest of the time saving her and the film really drives home the idea that she is, yes, naive. Because apparently, people never do things (even mostly accidentally) that don’t have some precedent in their upbringing.
@Lady Rainicorn
That’s a ridiculous exaggeration. The lengthy animated feature film “Frozen” is 1 hour and 42 minutes long while Molyneux’s gripping “The Truth About Frozen” is a brisk 1 hour and 2 minutes long.
I would fund this Kickstarter.
Does that even make sense? In my experience, when you comment on a video someone has shared on G+, the comments also show up on YouTube.
Dude can’t even backpedal properly.
There’s something hilarious about a grown man who’s that obsessed with trying to prevent little girls from being encouraged to have high self-esteem.
@brooked
Is sarcasm?
His review is ridiculous, at one point he says olaf the snowman is a symbol for friendzoned beta males.
