Let’s say that you’re the “Managing Editor” of a website known far and wide for calling women “whores,” as well as an assortment of other 4- and 5-letter words generally considered crude sexist slurs. Let’s just say that you had a convention, and that during this convention your official spokeswoman went on a bit of a name calling rampage on Twitter, repeatedly attacking a woman who had tried to report on said convention as an “attention whore,” a “fame whore,” and a “little whore,” and offering similar “whore”-based assessments to other critics of the site.
And let’s just say that despite all this you also had a desire to convince the world that your site was not actually the misogynistic cesspit that it so obviously is. Would you:
1) Apologize for using the words “whore” and “bitch” and “c*nt” and other similar sexist epithets against women.
2) In your capacity as editor, quietly remove the word “whore” (and “bitch” and “c*nt”) from future postings on the site, and tell your PR maven to maybe come up with a less misogynistic insult of choice.
3) Start calling men whores so that no one can accuse you of hating women because, see we use “whore” to refer to men too!
The answer, of course, is 3 — at least if you’re Dean Esmay, “Managing Editor” of A Voice for Men. In a recent comment thread on AVFM, he declared:
CONFIDENTIAL TO D— E—-: No one is buying your bullshit. Also, if you want to try to convince the world that you’re a Friend of Sex Workers, you should probably stop using the word “whore” as an insult for women or men.
Hi, I just came here to off-topic regarding the World Cup again:
Argentina made it to the Final!!!! Yay!!!!
Now, there have been two Argentina vs Germany finals.
Germany won in Italy. Argentina won in Mexico.
I’m really really wishing it has everything to do with whether they play in Europe or Latin America xD
Yay, Argentina! Though I kind of hate it when penalty kicks are the deciding factor.
You know, the first time I heard Dean Esmay talk on an AVfM video (some kind of “debate”), I thought, “Huh, maybe there’s someone with a smidgen of reason there,” and then he kept talking and burst that little bubble of mine. Ah, well, at least his presence there made more sense to me afterwards.
His claim to respect the honesty of the average sex-worker (or sex-artists, as some might be inclined to call them) is dubious at best. Sex-artists do deserve respect, and their trade should be legalized and properly regulated in order to protect them from exploitation and violence. To call a sex-artist a whore, especially so flippantly, is insulting regardless of the technical accuracy, and comparison of them with Adam Serwer comes off as little more than an analogue to when someone calls a person an “animal” and then corrects themselves by saying that that’s an insult to innocent animals everywhere — in neither case does the person really come off as having much respect for animals, and in Esmay’s case, his self-described respect for sex-artists is no more convincing.
I’m not surprised by any of this, and I’ll only be surprised when some MRA *doesn’t* say something asinine or idiotic.
Oh, great, we have another “you’re all evil bitches who want to destroy my life, now give me hugs and sympathy!” troll.
@Bitter
If you are surprised that people here would stand up to someone being abusive towards you, maybe see this as an illustration of the idea that, contrary to your earlier statement, all humans do have intrinsic value, and that is a thing worth believing.
Sure we can find someone morally repugnant in the views they express, we can be disgusted by the hateful rhetoric they spout at us, but when it comes down to it abuse is only seen as acceptable to people who think that other human beings have no inherent value. Degrading other people like that, or treating them as worthless, is a shitty thing that tends to be done by shitty people. It’s why we don’t advocate doxxing or sex/fat/virgin shaming, among other things.
Don’t get me wrong, I think the things that you say and apparently believe are awful and really quite abhorrent, but you are still a human being and I think that all of us here make a point of not treating human beings like shit.
@cloudiah yeah, it’s not my favorite deal either.. But then again, if it’s Argentina, and wins, I totally give a shit 😛
(Well, not really, but of course I don’t mind just as much as in other cases)
PS: everyone here went out on the streets to celebrate, and this is MADNESS… People, cars, music, screams, fireworks… it looks like Carnival!
Argentinians really take football to the heart.
Well it seems I missed a whole bunch of memos! Feminist utopia is what now?! I don’t get to mind my own business and my fish and plants but have to either jail a beta or be jailed? I don’t even get a non-binary option?
Ok, seriously, what in the everloving fuck is this mess?! Feminists are…what? No really, what is he even trying to say here? And is any of it based in reality or just MRA fantasyland? The heat death of the universe is gonna happen is about the only part of that that seems to have any truth to it, the rest reads like MRA talking points vomited on my screen. Which is gross, can someone get me a towel?
I want to give this comment a big gold star.
Oh fuck this noise, I’m going back to QI, bagpipes and penguins are way more interesting (yes together, first postcard from Antarctica apparently)
@ bittersteel
I’m off at dinner, so not going to post much.
You’re welcome, but we will call you out when you say problematic shit too.
Speaking of calling out hateful people, have you seen the blog Yo, is this Racist? Since you have dealt with so much racist shit in your life, hearing him tell racists to fuck off might be cathartic.
And Cosmo is the worst. Doesn’t Cliff from Pervocracy have a series called Cosmocking? So no, feminists don’t like Cosmo.
@Sparky
I am always awed when people suggest that feminism is multi-billion dollar industry and its heart is in academia, i.e. women’s studies/gender studies programs. The Humanities and Fine Arts were always the first programs to get their budgets slashed in the the three universities I’ve attended or worked at. When budgeting or the topic of reorganization comes up, one of the first suggestions is always to break up women studies departments (which have limited budgets and resources as is) and absorb them into history, English, anthropology, sociology, etc. To claim that feminists are swimming in money provided by the public purse is just ludicrous. Those who argue along these lines really have to start backing up their arguments because it doesn’t reflect what is going on in university administration today (at least in Canada). I get so sick of people who have never even attended university telling me how they think they’re run.
Reading them once was one time too many.
This really makes me wish Bitter had stuck the flounce, but they never do. Where have all the good flouncers gone? Not to this website apparently.
Pro Tip: Don’t use fucking Cosmo as a citation in a school paper or here, you’re embarrassing yourself and wasting everyone’s time. Write something worthy of a real response, rather than regurgitating tired MRA BS talking points.
Also, it may be a very shitty and reckless thing to do, but it’s not rape. You have sex, you risk pregnancy. That’s how procreation works.
Especially since, as an image search reveals, that picture has made the rounds as part of various “crazy stuff from Cosmo” lists.
In other words, it’s something that virtually everyone out there thinks is completely off the wall.
Well, there’s a thread I’m glad I missed.
I’m with Howard, there’s a real Mr Al vibe to this one.
I see that “feeding a troll until it bursts” is working just as well as I’d expect. Pity.
Thanks for the compliments for Hubby. He asked me if I “told on him” on here. I said, “You know I do”. He’s a hoot and a half. He get’s pretty pissed off when people equate fatherhood with “passing on DNA”. Here’s what he has to say about that:
All this toxic masculinity stuff has reminded me of:
Bs, you’ve been hoodwinked, son. You’ve been had, sold a bridge, given the old flimflam. Ya bought a pack of lies.
While Cosmo is shitty and not a place to learn about feminism, that isn’t really Cosmo. It is a parody. I’ve heard of it several times before and always from some poor rube who believed the lies misogynists told him. Spermjacking isn’t a thing. Biology doesn’t even work that way.
Mostly it does work, Nequam.
Gah! I was taken in, too. That says something about how generally shitty Cosmo is, though.
Bs, the only thing that is rape is actual fucking rape and the only thing that is slavery is slavery. Do not minimize that shit by appropriating it to describe shit that is inconvenient and does not even effect you.
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck that noise.
you make accusations about feminists appropriating shit when that shit actually happens to women. Women are not all white, straight or cis, asshole.
Flying mouse,
It does!
It is the magazine that told women to just shove a finger up a man’s ass during oral without asking, because he may be “too uptight” to “admit” he likes butt stuff and to seduce a man by eating a doughnut off his cock. It is at once both rapey and dorky and never a good place to get advice. Helen Gurley Brown is not my idea of an ideal feminist.
Ok, these were the claims you wanted me to source
Feminists advocate paternity fraud:
Simple enough:
1. Spectator article by Melanie McDonagh: http://www.spectator.co.uk/features/6391918/whos-the-daddy/
2. Probably the most evil feminist of all time, Hugo Schwyzer, admits that he and his lover set up a paternity fraud on his lover’s other lover and then tries to justify it: http://www.hugoschwyzer.net/2011/07/13/cuckolding-is-the-worst-thing-that-can-happen-to-a-man/
Incidentally Schwyzer also heavily attacked poc in the feminist movement and was pretty racist.
3. I know you guys said that paternity tests aren’t banned in Australia because they just require the consent of the mother. But really guys? That’s an effective ban on paternity tests because men aren’t allowed to check the status of their own supposed children. It’s literally creating a gag order against men. And if these children supposedly do belong to men, they’re well within their rights to ok medical procedures that aren’t barbaric or involve some sort of mutilation.
4. Paternity test are banned in France. It is a criminal offense for a male to get a paternity test.
Claim 2; Feminists and women support paternity fraud
1. Extend all of the proof about the work that feminists are doing to ban paternity tests because there literally is no other reason for them to ban these tests except if they want to perpetrate paternity fraud.
2. Why would they do this? Well according to Dr. Helen, 80% of women are only attracted to the top 20% of men: http://drhelen.blogspot.com/2011/06/vox-at-alpha-game-dont-listen-to-female.html .
3. The human species has twice as many female ancestors as it does male ancestors. The majority of men did not ever have the chance to reproduce, meaning that their partners were cuckolding them with alpha babies: http://www.reddit.com/r/askscience/comments/15h635/dnaanalysis_says_twice_as_many_women_as_men/
4. According to the American blood bank, the paternity fraud rate is 30%. This statistic was just based on blood samples, so the rate is probably even higher because blood types aren’t really much of a guarantee since there are only 4 common blood types that are tested for. I would bet it’s as high as 60%, which makes sense given that only the top 40% of men ever reproduced.
5. Here is a video of an abusive woman who was extremely hostile to her lover, who was not the father of her children. When the lover decided he had had enough and left, she stole his car. The ex-lover took her court and she said she had a right to steal the car because he abandoned her when she was pregnant. The judge made her admit that none of her children were his children, and she said “it doesn’t matter. He should ‘man up’ and provide for my children.’ That’s the level of entitlement that women have these days. Men are slaves and should ‘man up’ and provide for their children even if the children aren’t related to the men: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0rDpOWeavo
Claim 3: There is money in feminism
1. Anecdotally, I once asked a feminist why we couldn’t simultaneously focus on men’s issues and women’s issues. She said that it was because there was only enough funding for one and women had to take precedence.
2. Feminism is part of what Erin Pizzey calls the Evil Empire. It is literally a multibillion dollar industry that involves the family courts, lawmakers, police, etc. VAWA (which unfairly excludes men) itself gets $15.50 per U.S. woman. That’s literally billions of dollars assuming that there are 300 million people in the US and 50% of them are women (in reality it’s slightly more).
3. Feminists have been getting men to pay for their healthcare by fixing premiums for men at an artificially high rate. However, the government refuses to make women pay for men’s car insurance by having equal rates for care insurance. Only for healthcare.
3. Breast cancer gets more than twice as much federal funding as prostate cancer: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/factsheet/NCI/research-funding This is in spite of the fact that one in six men under the age of 36 develops prostate cancer and that 80% of men over the age of 80 have tumor cells in the prostate (so literally every single man in the population is dying of prostate cancer.) Compare that to the 12% of women who get breast cancer. So 12% of women are more important than 100% of men. Very clear example of gynocentrism and feminism getting the moolah.
Claim 4: Feminists hate transpeople:
1. I already posted that article about feminists cyberbullying a Swedish transwoman to death.
2. Another article in which a woman argues that feminists are attacking transwomen and telling them that they aren’t real women: http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2013/jan/19/feminism-trans-women-female-enough
3. From Janice Raymond’s “The Transsexual Empire: the making of the she-male”: “All transsexuals rape women’s bodies by reducing the real female form to an artifact, appropriating this body for themselves …. Transsexuals merely cut off the most obvious means of invading women, so that they seem non-invasive.”
4. In 1997 Sheila Jeffreys labeled transgenderism “deeply problematic from a feminist perspective and [stated] that transsexualism should be seen as a violation of human rights.”
5. In 1999, the book the whole woman, Germaine Greer wrote”Governments that consist of very few women have hurried to recognise as women men who believe that they are women and have had themselves castrated to prove it, because they see women not as another sex but as a non-sex. . . . The insistence that man-made women be accepted as women is the institutional expression of the mistaken conviction that women are defective males.”
Utterly disgusting. Feminists actually believe that transexualism is a violation of human rights. Who in their right mind believes such a thing?
hmmm…
I say “shit” alot.
Watch out ‘fuck”. You got some competition.
