Misogynists hate, hate, hate it when women get tattoos. They just can’t all agree on why. The standard misogynist line on tattoos for women is that they are all, essentially, “tramp stamps” – a way of broadcasting that the woman displaying them is a slut, a skank, a whore. You know the drill.
But the “alternative right” racist/sexist/homophobe who goes by the handle agnostic has a rather different take. In a post on his blog Face to Face, he argues that women with tattoos are actually trying to broadcast their Puritan prudery.
Tattoos, you see, are just plain ugly, and help to accessorize a dreary look designed to repel men.
Notice how those girls dress in drab, dark monochrome colors, wear no girly jewelry, and sport flat hair rather than Big Hair. Their sassy, sarcastic, even nasty attitude echos their off-putting look.
Fundamentally, they are part of the larger trend toward drab dressing, and its signal of reluctance to get loose. Their personalities are more anti-social, so they express the neo-Pilgrim style in a more antagonistic fashion than the less abrasive girls in their generation, but they’re both variations on the same theme.
The tattoo-bearers are likely to be man-haters as well.
They are also part of the larger trend among women toward fear of or hatred toward men. …
In such a climate, women will alter their appearance and demeanor in order to deflate rather than excite the male libido. They act like prey trying to give warning signals to potential predators. The tattoo chicks are only the extreme version of this widespread trend. Girls sure don’t look or act as cute and flirty as they used to in the boy-crazy Eighties, when they thought of guys not as predators but as conspecifics who they wanted to court with engaging mating displays.
“Conspecifics” simply means “members of the same species.” Agnostic loves to drop that sciency lingo in order to make his prejudices seem smart.
Anyway, he continues by arguing that tattoos are especially offensive to pickup artistes and other “assertive” dudes.
Off-putting style also serves to filter out the more assertive and independent males, who would rather spend time on a girl who looks cute, rather than settle for one who’s all marked up or not willing to show anything at all. … By inking themselves up, girls ensure that only the guys who are willing to get walked over and slapped in the face will approach them. Why go through the long hassle of having your new boyfriend fixed when you can advertise that only the neutered need apply in the first place?
Ah, but this last bit is perhaps more revealing than agnostic means it to be. Tattoos are an affront to misogynists because they’re seen as too assertive, too masculine – a challenge to traditional femininity, and to men who prefer traditionally feminine women.
Tattoos on women make misogynistic men angry because on some fundamental level these men don’t think women have the right to decorate their bodies in a way that displeases men –or at least their kind of men. It’s the same kind of creepy, possessive anger that many misogynistic men show towards women who cut their hair short. It’s as if these men on some level believe women’s bodies belong to them, and not to the women themselves.
And that’s pretty unattractive.
@sparky
I forgot, was randompester the dude who declared he was done with ‘human females’ or was that another troll with a similiar habit?
These guys seem to think that every time a woman engages in a type of fashion that they do not find attractive, then they must be deliberately doing it to make men angry. This kind of reminds me when Roosh V talked about how women with short hair are mentally damaged (or was it Vox Day? I can’t tell these guys apart.)
@Marie
He actually said he was done with “human women”, but I think he meant to put ‘females’ instead of ‘women’.
I am rather curious about the non-human women, though…
Off topic. This is the type of horrifying story that makes me scoff and roll my eyes when MRAs claim that courts favor women. http://jezebel.com/monster-who-drugged-and-raped-his-wife-for-years-gets-n-1578986745/all
@weirdwoodtreehugger
Oh wow.
And he’s in Indiana too. Get me the fuck out of this state.
These dudes are so very sad, but it’s always nice to know that yet another thing about me is repelling to them.
I’m tattooed, I have an “alternative” haircut (specifically, the half shaved cut that so many MRAs seem to hate) AND I have a facial piercing. Things which apparently simultaneously brand me as a slut, a lesbian (as if that’s a bad thing, I’m actually bi), and a man hating prude. In reality, I modified MY body in these ways because I wanted to, and I could. And my self confidence has gone through the roof since I did. I love how I look, and I love the fact that my body is mine to do with what I will. If it repels assholes, all the better.
Maybe he meant that he was swearing off using the phrase “human women.”
@weirwoodtreehugger
No such thing as marital rape, remember? Of course she should forgive him — and apologize for causing him so much unnecessary distress. In fact, she should probably be thrown in prison for falsely accusing her husband of a crime he did not commit (since there is no such thing as rape in marriage). The jury was wrong, and the judge knew it.
/sarcasm, of course
This is not the first case of this kind — a husband drugging his wife, raping her, and recording it (extra fun, I suppose). It is somewhat of a fashion in certain circles of men, it seems.
Maybe they just don’t like to be out-peacocked.
@weirwoodtreehugger – oof that article hurt to read. I’m now 1000x happier I didn’t move to Indiana with that abusive partner a few years back like ‘we’ had planned. (Luckily grad school necessitated he move up for a few months first, which gave me the away time to get some damn help). Even so, that poor woman, and what an awful judge. They need some kind of training for the court system; this bro-ism happens in court far too often for my liking.
Hey, I’ve discovered WHTM only recently (though I did witness THE METAMORPHOSIS). Can anyone clue me in on the whole “Scented Candles are misandry” thing? Because I, a 29 year old bisexual male, love me some scented candles. There’s some sitting on my shelf right the Eff now. Am I doing misandry guys?
WWTH,
So many rage tears for that woman.
Brain bleach:
Another thing that just occurred to me: “game” is dependent on the idea that women are completely pliable. Women just change themselves to fit whatever situation; that’s femininity.
Given that belief, I can totally see why it’d be super threatening that a woman would actually choose to decorate herself permanently,
But isn’t that what we’re supposed to do,,.you know, to avoid being raped? It’s almost as if what this dood and his ilk really want is a handy excuse to rape women. If we dress and comport ourselves in a manner that says NOPE, we deprive them of that.
I have never wanted to get a tattoo MORE. But I have a hard time committing to a particular image. Maybe I should get one of the woman I wrote my thesis on–but I have a feeling she would have totally disapproved of tattoos. XD
p.s. The post title made me sporfle.
Karalora,
But at the same time, conservatively dressed people are harassed. Then these slime balls start saying that these poor, plain people should be grateful that anyone would deign pay them, a lowly < 5, any attention whatsoever, and that rejecting their attentions is totes mean.
Blargh. Just, Blargh. All the ew.
Ohh, misogynists and tattoos. I’d be lying if that didn’t contribute (slightly) to my wish to get tattoos. You hate it? EXCELLENT.
Hyena Girl, your tattoo is awesome. I love it!
Double double down and base it on the 2nd panel of the Ada Lovelace comic here:http://harkavagrant.com/index.php?id=141
I gotta get my hair chopped short this week, as it looks like we’re due yet another unnaturally hot summer, so it will have time to grow back before winter arrives.
Maybe I should get a kickass tattoo with the same go. I have always wanted to see what happens when I try to boost my “misandry” stat to max!
Over at Alpha Game Plan, Vox Day recently (like, yesterday) made the exact opposite argument—that tattoos were an advertisement of sexual availability. Ah, the Great Authority that is the Manosphere!
As others have mentioned, these guys seem really confused by women in subcultures that don’t conform to the version of femininity they find attractive. The unfortunate thing is that a lot of common goth/punk looks are based on or are a parody of what the mainstream says is “sexy”. That girl in the patched up mini-kilt, shredded fishnet stockings full of safety pins, combat boots, and heavy black makeup is not looking to pick you up, boys. She laughs her ass off if you try, and is not afraid to punch you in the face if she feels threatened.
Those goth girls wearing shiny fetish gear and Cleopatra makeup? They’re wearing it because they, and their subcultural friends like it. If they *are* looking to pick up a guy, they want someone from their own subculture, not some dudebro who thinks they look “hawt”. Some of them are probably also members of the BDSM/fetish scene, a community where consent is of paramount importance. In that case, they most definitely want nothing to do with you… unless you’re willing to pay them for a professional session… which I sincerely doubt you’ll enjoy!
(At least I hope not! We don’t need that kind of scum in our scene!)
Wasn’t there a post here about a dude complaining that in a group photo of politicians or something, only the women had the audacity to wear brightly colored clothes? Now this dude is complaining women wear drab colors.
Same with makeup and pushup bras, traditionally feminine producs that they claim is cheating.
There is no right way to be a woman to misogynists, they will always complain about women regardless.
This post is oddly timely, since I recently posted photos of our new tattoos. Shockingly, they had nothing to do with any sort of attractiveness; the circles were me celebrating my marriage, the cuffs a way for me and my younger sibling to bond, since zie got them too. All of them were also intended to bind me more strongly to this body.
RE: RandomPoster
tattoos can actually further enhance the attractiveness of an already attractive human female,
I refuse to believe you’re not doing this on purpose, dude, constantly going on about “human females.” Nobody’s that obvious.
anything around upper arm or the wrist or the waist or the hips or small of the back or the ankles or toes.
AUGH DON’T TATTOO YOUR TOES. The ink in those areas fades out really quickly!
RE: cloudiah
I have a hard time committing to a particular image.
KITTEN WITH A TANGERINE! 😀
Reading this, I’m tempted to get a tattoo of a scented candle that smells like a hard chair, and then walk into a bar and see if its force field actually picks PUAs up and flings them backward against the wall.
They really don’t like any sign that women are ‘used’, do they? Any marks, blemishes, haircuts, signs of aging, or alterations to the original packaging means DAMAGED GOODS. It’s like they think we’re vintage Princess Leia action figures that become worthless the moment our blister pack is opened and we start acquiring the random exterior markings of life.
Personally, I’d rather be played with than sit on a shelf.
