Name change! Banner/Logo contest! [UPDATED]

He's getting a promotion!
He’s getting a promotion!

UPDATE: See below for updates, marked with UPDATE in bold

Man Boobz is about to become We Hunted the Mammoth.

That is, I’m changing the name. And I may end up fiddling a bit with the look. The actual content of the blog itself won’t really be changing.

I’ve been kind of frustrated with the old name for a while. I came up with it on the spur of the moment when I first started this blog and, to be honest, it’s kind of a dopey name. It doesn’t really fit what the blog has become, and I’m a bit tired of explaining it to people (“no, boobs as in nincompoops, not breasts”).

The new name, as all you regular readers know, is based on a phrase that’s already associated with the site. Granted, I’ll have to explain its meaning to people, just as I’ve had to do with the old name, but at least it has a better story behind it. (See the FAQ for more details; the relevant stuff is at the end.)

Naturally, a new name means a new banner, and that’s where you all come in. Yep, we’re having a BANNER/LOGO CONTEST. It will run for a week, more or less, and then I’ll pick a winner or two. The prize is … your banner will be the banner! Also you will receive my undying gratitude. [UPDATE: Some commenters here have started talking about setting up a fund to provide the winner with prize money; if you’re interested, check the comments. I’ll make an official announcement if/when we get something set up. And of course I’ll donate!]

The rules are simple: You can submit artwork, or a logo, or a finished banner. It should have a mammoth in it. I like the mammoth artwork above – and if you click on that image you’ll get a high-resolution version of it. But you can use some other public domain mammoth art, or draw your own mammoth. Stick to black and white and perhaps red.

The text should read: We Hunted the Mammoth. In smaller letters, the tagline: “Men’s Rights” and the New Misogyny. I’m inclined to go with the same font I’m using now – the free font Magnum. But if you’ve got a better idea, go for it. You can do the text by hand it you want. [UPDATE: Scratch that tagline, and replace it with The New Misogyny, tracked and mocked.]

If you’re making a banner, make it the same size of the current banner. Give it a transparent background. If you absolutely can’t fit everything into that space, I suppose you could make the banner a teensy bit taller.

I want to thank JohnnyKaje for her outstanding work on the current Man Boobz banners – including that amazing Cock Carousel artwork. I’ll put the old banners up on the FAQ page when the new banner goes up.

Feel free to submit rough sketches, to ask questions and make suggestions about the banner/logo — and about the site look and layout. You can post them online, or email them to me at [email protected].

Does this mean the misters will start referring to you as Mammoth-Hunter instead of Manboob? Don’t you know depriving them of an easy way to insult you is MISANDRY???

“Facts are misandry” would also be a good name.

When the name change occurs, I’ll be anxious to see how many misdirected people show up thinking this is an archeology blog. XD

Aaaahahaha, Karalora, I laughed soooo hard at that comment.

Too bad I’m no good with visual art, but I’m super curious to see the result!

I really don’t like the new slogan. Does this mean that you are going to limit your focus only on MRAs? “Misogyny, I mock it” expresses better the nature of the blog, IMO. The new slogan will also open you to attacks that you are some kind of “dedicated opponent”, i.e. something like the numerous blogs following the “SOMETHINGwatch” template.

I have no art skills but I look forward to seeing what you all come up with.

I too will miss the “Misogyny, I mock it” for all the times regulars have referred trolls to go and re-read it.

FWIW I agree with Z and moldybrehd. I think changing the blog name is a great idea (and I like the Mammoth motif). But I don’t think “Misogyny, I mock it” has to go.

Could you rotate between headers with different slogans? Because I agree with everyone that Misogyny, I mock it should stay somehow. I also like Facts are Misandry.

“Misogyny, I mock it” should definitely stay. It neatly encapsulates what the blog is about and lets us give trolls something to ponder when they act like they don’t know where they are.

Another vote here for keeping “Misogyny, I mock it.” I must also confess that I’m sad to see “Manboobz” go. But then again, who doesn’t love mammoths, amirite?

So what will happen with the lady riding the cock carousel?

She’ll find some poor beta to marry and divorce for all his money, of course.

http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27007764 I’m sorry if this is a double post. It seems that there are calls in the UK to see if the CPS charges rich white famous people with rape too easily. This article also challenges the idea that people who go to the police about rape victims should be allowed to be anonymous as they don’t suffer the consequences of reporting enough.

Nthing that you should keep the old tagline unless you’ll be changing the content. The new tagline sounds both too narrow and too scholarly.

I love the new name, because it’s hilarious to hear the undistinguished cube drones who often make this argument whine like they spend backbreaking days cutting cane, and act as if no women do physical work.

Also, what about all the people who come here wanting us to “seriously debate” their assfacts. We NEED that tagline.

I love We Hunted the Mammoth though.

Perhaps “Misogyny. We mock it.” Half the site lives in the comments!

Perhaps, rather than keeping that as the tagline, make it the new title, get right to the point; and use another idea as the new tagline.

I kinda like “Men’s Rights and the New Misogyny” (though it’s hardly “new”), and perhaps start from there, like “Men’s Rights and Women’s Wrongs” or some variation on that.

Random other thoughts:
• “Men’s Rights Deactivism”
• “Men’s Wrongs Movement” or “Women’s Wrongs Movement” or (riffing on “MHRA”), “Men’s Women’s Wrongs Movement”
• “Misogyny Is The New Black” (so oppressed~!)

I don’t care for “We Hunted the Mammoth” as the title, since it riffs on something rather specific when there’s dozens of other things in the lore one could riff on. “Scented Fucking Candles”, “Hard Chairs Rights Movement”, “Liquid Fucking Gold”, “And Even Chefs!, “The Furrinati”, and that’s just off the top of my head.

Meanwhile, will the existing articles and comments remain online? I don’t want to lose them. Like I said, the comments are half the site, just about.

In any case, good luck with the change!

Yay! Now I’ll get to brag that “I was reading that site back when it was still Manboobz.” 😛

Good luck with the change!

I will miss the misunderstandings that came from talking to people about the site with the old title.

“I really love manboobz. I look at manboobz every day. Have you seen manboobz? You really ought to check out manboobz.” etc.

Good times, good times.

My suggestion would be to change the new name to “They Hunted the Mammoth” then “Misogyny, I mock it” works and there’s no confusing who the mighty hunters are.

Perahps jus simply “Mocking Misogyny.”

Wasn’t the original tagline something like “Mocking Misogyny since 2010?”
