are these guys 12 years old? evil sexy ladies evil wives evil women gynocracy homophobia men who should not ever be with women ever misogyny MRA nonpology paul elam playing the victim racism rape jokes sexual abuse sluts whores

Quiz: Who said “Sluts are just whores in training?”

MRAs also like to remain anonymous when they make terrible jokes
Misogynists also like to remain anonymous when they make terrible jokes

Time for a little quiz!

Who posted comments online in which he (or she) declared that:

“Sluts are just whores in training.”

“Women look at 2 bulges on a man, one in the front of the pants or second one in the back pocket. Whichever one is bigger, they can do without the other.”

“What’s the most used line in Arkansas: daddy get off me you are crushing my cigarettes.”

Female college students are “sororostutes.”

Women expect special treatment because of their “golden vajay jays”

Khloe Kardashian is “black by injection.”

Your choices are:

Oprah

Paul Elam

Redditor “NaggerPlease”

Arkansas Circuit Judge Mike Maggio

So who was it? Let’s work through the alternatives. Unsurprisingly, it’s not Oprah; while she has referred to “vajay jays” she has not, as far as I know, referred specifically to golden ones, and the rest of the comments really don’t match her views at all.

Perhaps a little surprisingly, it’s not Paul Elam either, though he has many terrible opinions about sluts and whores.

NaggerPlease, meanwhile, is just a name I made up because it seems like the sort of “edgy” borderline-racist name some dude on Reddit would come up with. It turns out there actually is a NaggerPlease on Reddit, though they haven’t posted anything.

So, yep, the correct answer is actually Arkansas Circuit Judge Mike Maggio, who was recently outed as a regular commenter on a Louisiana State University fan message board called Tiger Droppings.  Say hello, Mike!

Arkansas Judge Mike Maggio: An oddly cheerful cauldron of hate
Arkansas Judge Mike Maggio: An oddly cheerful cauldron of hate

Using the name “geauxjudge,” Maggio posted what seems to have been an endless stream of racist, misogynistic, homophobic and otherwise offensive comments on the board — many of them worse than the small sampling I’ve posted above. He also revealed confidential (alleged) details of an adoption hearing involving actress Charlize Theron. (For more of the comments and the gory details, see here and here.)

He’s now under investigation for all of this; revealing the alleged details of the Theron case were apparently quite a serious ethical violation.

In the wake of the outing, Maggio has withdrawn from a race for appellate judge and has offered up a rather impressively half-assed apology for his terrible comments:

I take full responsibility for the comments that have been attributed to me.

That’s a weirdly indirect way to admit you wrote the comments.

I apologize deeply for my lapse in personal judgment and for that, I have no excuse. The comments posted were not acceptable.

Well, it was a bit more than a lapse. It was lapse after lapse after lapse after lapse. But at least this sounds like an apology.

These comments are not a reflection of who I am.

Uh, how are the comments you just took “full resposibility for” not a reflection of you? Who are they a reflection of? Not-Me, the naughty ghost from The Family Circus?

During my life, I have prided myself in treating all fairly and with respect, both personally and professionally. … I ask for both yours and God’s forgiveness.

… for the “lapse” that isn’t really a reflection of who you are.

My actions are not indicative or illustrative of the conservative political philosophy of which I hold dear.

Huh. Then why does so much of it line up so precisely with the anti-woman, anti-gay and racist dogwhistle rhetoric of the far right today?

It is a shame that the politics of personal destruction take precedence along with the win at all costs mentality that results in the disjunction.

Uh, are you really using your alleged APOLOGY for your bigoted statements to attack the people who pointed out your bigotry? Do you not understand the concept of an apology?

At this time, in light of the pain I have caused to my family, friends, supporters, the Judicial Branch, and the public, I have requested that the Secretary of State remove me from the ballot.

I would ask you to respect my family’s need for privacy so we can being the healing process of forgiveness.

I think in order to merit forgiveness you have to actually stop being an asshole. Or at least make an effort in that direction.

Men’s Rights activists often complain that they are locked out of the political system in “gynocratic” America. But here is a gentleman who seems to share 90% of their ideology and who, pending the result of an investigation of his comments, is actually in a position of some real power within the system.

And like most MRAs I’ve ever dealt with, he takes no real responsibility for his shit when he gets called on it.

Embrace Mike Maggio, MRAs. He’s your poster boy. He’s you.

Note: Thanks to Pecunium for pointing me to this story.

titanblue: In the U.S., it varies. Some states use appointees, some use elections. Some even vary depending on the level of the court. In many local municipal courts, you get appointed initially, then get to run for ‘retention’ every election cycle.

I am horrified but not surprised. Sometimes I seriously wonder if all of people’s’ public claims of other people being too PC and the rise of “ironic” racism and sexism are a smokescreen for people who really believe prejudiced things and think most everyone else thinks the way they do.

It terrifies me that they might be right.

Lol, I knew judges in the US were often elected; I’m just not sure if there’s a significant difference between being elected and being appointed, in terms of how effective and fair they are.

On a fun note, here in BC, Canada, not all of the people presiding over a court are in fact judges – we have judicical justices too (also appointees).

I think that makes sense. Any joke that punches down against oppressed groups can easily serve as a smokescreen because humor by nature can trivialize any subject. For example, the world is so strongly transmisogynistic because our existence is literally the punchline for countless jokes (at least that’s one of the reasons).

Judicial elections do have a bit of a reputation for being easy to buy off, since they’re low-profile and so a little money put into advertising can translate to big changes in public opinion.

I’m terrified of centipedes and Dracarys murders them all for me. I love her for it. I’ve had Darrow for much longer and he never kills bugs, just looks at them quizzically so it was pretty thrilling to get a ruthless bug killer!

” The answer is perfectly clear. They have made it pretty plain that they hate every one of these groups.”
Maybe the thought process is like this: “We hate them, so why don’t they support us. Well perhaps we have to show even more hatred to them, then they will support us”

Shaenon OK, looks like almost 100% then.
The child support rage seems to be one of the difference betwen MRAs and OCMs (Ordinary Conservative Misogynists)

These comments are not a reflection of who I am.

Well, technically when you look at your reflection you’re seeing yourself backward/reversed, right? So OK, the comments aren’t a reflection of you, they ARE you. Thanks for telling us exactly who you are, asshole!

Hopefully the fact that he revealed confidential information will get him disbarred and we’ll never have to see his smug mug again.

@titanblue:

No offense taken. 🙂 I’m not really clear on who’s elected vs. appointed. I remember having to vote for a couple judicial positions two years ago. I also recently learned that Sheriff is an elected position too.

@sparky:

Thanks for the info.

I love it when internet MRAs try to defend themselves by saying “but you can’t call me an asshole if you don’t know me in real life!”

I wonder why they make such accusations of being judgmental. They don’t know me in real life after all!

I’m glad this asshole was outed and is fucking off, he had the means to do real harm to people, and probably did.

Most of the people I’ve met who’ve gone to LSU are lovely, but the dudebro alumni are the broiest bros who ever bro’d. This asshole fits right in.

This is slightly off topic but it was mentioned earlier so:
On the site for the RedPill Movie thing…yeah, not sure what’s up with this redpill thing, but on one of the slides some guy is holding a sign about reproductive choices and the women’s choices side is full of stuff I can’t read because the cop is in the way, but the men’s side says condoms, bankruptcy (wha?) invasive surgery (getting your tubes tied is actually more invasive than a vasectomy, but okay) prison, suicide (another wha?) credit, something else I’m forgetting, and abstinence. Abstinence has an asterisk next to it and then below it says ‘N/A because of paternity fraud.’ What? What does that mean? You can’t not have sex because then you will get made a dad anyway? I don’t get it.

And why would condoms and vasectomies still be options then?

I’m pretty certain that David did a post about this. sometime ago. Either that or it cameup on an old thread. Anyone else remember it?

J.J.:

Heh, yeah, MRAs (men’s rights activists) and PUAs (pick-up artists) are not well known for their logic. They think paternity fraud and sperm-jacking are very common things, so even if a man uses a condom or remains abstinent, he could still be named the father of some woman’s child and have to pay big bucks in child support for the rest of his life. That’s where the bankruptcy comes in. They don’t really care that vasectomy is less invasive than tubal ligation, because tubal ligation is something women have done and, yeah, they don’t give a shit about the risks or invasiveness of a procedure when it’s women getting the procedure.

Suicide is probably listed because that’s another MRA talking point. Men commit suicide at a higher rate than women (women attempt suicide at a higher rate than men, but that doesn’t count because women aren’t really depressed and suicidal, they’re just looking for attention. Yeah, this is how they think). They don’t really do anything about it, like advocating for suicide prevention measures, more funding for mental health, volunteer for hotlines, etc. They more just like to use it as a stick to beat up feminists online with. There are a couple issues that MRAs are pissed about that are real issues (suicide, male victims of rape, etc) that they don’t actually do anything about.

The red pill is a whole ‘nother can of worms. It’s based on The Matrix, when Neo had the choice of taking the red pill (that would reveal the hidden truth) or the blue pill. Red pillers think they have discovered the hidden, non-PC truth about the relationship between men and women. Basically, women want to have sex with manly “alpha” men while they’re young and pretty, but once they turn into old hags (which, according to a lot of Red Pillers is the ripe old age of 25, or earlier) they “hit the wall” and look for some poor “beta” man to trick into marriage.

Sorry for the wall o’ text. You can search the archives for these things and get more info.

Sparky, I liked the wall of text. Also liked the archives. Especially where these red pill men think that they can train women like dogs! And can we not, with the alpha and beta? That’s for wolves, and I’m pretty sure that’s been debunked anyway.

Also saw the posts about the Toronto rally. My Sociology 101 class probably has more people in it than that showed up for that. This amuses me.

Thanks for giving me an introduction to the topic.

Most of the people I’ve met who’ve gone to LSU are lovely, but the dudebro alumni are the broiest bros who ever bro’d.

Judge Mikey is more like the breauxiest breaux who ever breaux’d.

What’s extra appalling about this is that this isn’t some angry, sweaty, spurned college kid typing out revenge fantasies in the basement. This is an adult man holding a respected office, serving the public trust, and acting as a pillar of the community. And a judge, no less – someone who is supposed to be fair, impartial, and even-handed in applying the law. It makes me wonder how many right wingers lead secret double lives behind their bland Family Values masks, and how much of their viciousness is really an attempt at misdirection so no one will notice how repulsive their own morals are.

It’s actually my standard assumption that, the more of an upright pillar of the community one appears to be, the more evil, cruel, and vindictive one actually is.
