So FeMRA videoblogger Karen “GirlWritesWhat” Straughan flapped her gums for nearly two hours the other night and sounds came out. This time she wasn’t sitting at her kitchen table blabbing to a webcam about female “hypoagency” and regurgitating misremembered factoids about bonobos but was speaking to an audience of mostly white dudes at Ryerson University in Toronto Canada.
I haven’t watched her performance — which is of course online as well — because life is short, and frankly I’d rather endure this for ten hours than subject myself to the tedious GWW for nearly two.
But I did take a look at a thread on the Men’s Rights subreddit started by a dude who hoped he and his fellow MRAs could have “a proper discussion about the talk, pros and cons, without descending into a circlejerk or a downvote party.” That’s right: he actually wanted GWW’s biggest fanboys to discuss her ideas (such as they are) on their merits.
This did not go over very well with the regulars, who jumped up to defend their favorite damsel in distress. ManUpManDown argued against the very notion of criticizing GWW, on the grounds of 1) her being supercool and 2) giving talks is hard:
Huh. But by NOT offering any criticism, aren’t you in fact treating her not as a writer or activist or, god forbid, a thinker, but precisely as a mascot?
Still, a few brave MRAs did bring up substantive critiques of her talk. For example, both 2095conash and memetherapy noted that she probably said “Right?” too often. Bluecharge, while proud of her performance, noted with brutal honesty that her “way of wrapping up points by saying ‘so there you go’ was a bit trite.”
So there you go.
Oh, I forgot to mention one dumb criticism some dumb guy made. GWW apparently suggested that if all the men in the world took three days off it would take three years to recover from the disaster that would ensue.
Essemd implied that this was a bit alarmist, arguing that if you gradually replaced men in the workforce with women — over the course of many years — it wouldn’t be the end of the world, because women could do these “men’s jobs” too. “[S]aying either gender is required because this and this job is mainly occupied by men or women is just false,” Essemd concluded.
Luckily there were a few real MRAs around to teach this fella a thing or two. Like Rikevo, who offered the powerful rebuttal that women can’t do shit:
And xNOM had a little list:
NOTE: I actually had that loop of “What is Love” on during most of the writing of this post. Hey, it’s a catchy song.
@emilygoddess
No one is responsible for stupid shit that trolls says except for trolls themselves.
I don’t think anyone should consider how trolls will respond to their writing, they aren’t an audience worth considering. They don’t respond in good faith, deliberately twist the words and arguments being made. Screw ’em.
RE: Falconer
My husband waggles his eyebrows and says you’re a lucky man.
@LBT: Don’t I know it. *eyebrow waggles back*
Y’all have a bunch of gutter minds!
LBT — valid point is valid.
@marie @takshak LOL. My lady brain can’t handle so many bricks of logic. Speaking of those bricks, what a nice violent theme eh? These FeMRA’s are doing ‘REAL’ science ya know. I really want to know what I was staring at when I was 3 days old. LOL
We may be in the gutter, but all we can see are stars!
I wish you people would get out of the gutter, you’re blocking my view
Nice guys (much more often than not) get females who are sloppy second-handed used goods, because as a general rule, women wise up only when they’re already washed-up.
The alpha male cock carousel is a real thing, true story.
Go away Mejas.
I’ve read of this woman, but didn’t know much of her beyond that. But… she has SHORT HAIR?!!! Don’t manosphere dudes see that as a bad political statement?
I never understood the ‘nice guys finish last’ thing when it comes to relationships.
Do these people get confused that their keys are always in the last place they look?
and that’s real!
Nothing says “I’m a nice guy” like referring to yourself and other men as guys, and to women as “females.”
Mejas, you do realize that women are not, in fact, “used up” by having sex with men other than you.
@Mejas
As a general rule, guys who think of women as “sloppy second-handed used goods” aren’t actually nice.
Another really nice thing about Nice Guys(tm) is that they seem to believe there is this huge number of men out there who are treating women badly or abusing them, and that almost all women are impacted by this widespread mistreatment, and that makes them really angry… at women.
I took a look at MGTOW forums and several alike and it always struck me how these guys want super hot awesome looking virgins who want to clean and cook and like being treated like a doormat, but have very little to offer in return for such self-sacrifice. Even worse, they portray their personality and misogyny in a really off-putting way. It also makes me wonder what it is that makes them unable or unwilling to connect with a real person who has thoughts, feelings and her own ideas. But I guess you DO sift out extremely insecure women or people with issues as no sane person would like to be valued as ”new” or second-handed ”goods”. So in that regard you’re doing the right thing, Mejas 🙂 In a purely egoistical sense of course.
Wow.
I think the study GWW was referring to is this one:
Sex differences in human neonatal social perception
Males (n 5 44)
Face Preference: 11 (25.0%)
Mobile Preference: 19 (43.2%)
No Preference:14 (31.8%)
Females (n 5 58)
Face Preference: 21 (36.2%)
Mobile Preference: 10 (17.2%)
No Preference: 27 (46.6%)
I came across it in a so called (because majorly biased in its seutp) documentary about gender equality. To say that baby girls preferred the face is not even factually correct. It’s not my field, but the study doesn’t seem too good overall.
New here as a commenter, but long time lurker. Hi everyone! *waves*
Interesting fact: having sex does not make someone “used up,” “washed up” or “second hand.” In fact, whether someone has had sex or not has no meaning deeper than x person has had sex or not. It doesn’t make the person good, bad, whatever
Ah, the old “used up by sex” trope. That somehow magically doesn’t apply to (a) men, or (b) conventionally attractive feeeeeeeeeeeeemale virgins who only have sex with their husbands after marriage.
What is it specifically about having sex with more than one man that causes feeeeeeeeemales to be used up? Why are men immune? Is it something to do with antibodies? Locks and keys? Pencils and pencil sharpeners?
We need to know the SCIENCE.

I think my husband has found his new motto.
RE: Mejas

Dude. People aren’t consumables. There’s no Salvation Army Thrift Shop of women, where you can buy designer women off the rack. There’s no Buffalo Exchange of hipster girls, waiting patiently on hangers. There is no discount rack of women. You can’t buy secondhand people, much as you’d like to pretend you can, you creeper.
Also, if women get used up and men don’t… where do trans people fall on this? Is it the possession of a vagina that ordains whether one gets used up or not, or gender identity? This is very important scientific curiosity, y’all.
So you didn’t even listen to what she said. You’re just commenting on the comments about her lol
RE: Maria
Well, yes. Because that’s what the article is about. That’s why the title of the article specifically mentions THE RESPONSE, rather than her actual speech.
*sighs* I swear, they never actually READ.
Light dawns.
And you’re commenting on our comments about the comments about her.
It’s all quite meta, really. 🙂
