This is the final day of the Man Boobz Pledge Drive! If you haven’t already, please consider clicking the little button below and sending some bucks my way.
Thanks! (And thanks again to all who’ve already donated.) Now back to our regularly scheduled programming:
Yet more proof that Men’s Rights activists live in an imaginary misandrist dystopia of their own making: this post on Reddit, which has the Men’s Righsters there in a tizzy:
Yeah, fellas, assuming that this even happened, I’m pretty sure what we’re dealing with is what the rest of us human beings call a “joke.” A dumb joke, but a joke nonetheless. This young lady, I feel confident in saying, does not actually intend to spermjack some innocent lad so she can spend the next 18-plus years of her life raising a child herself while trying to squeeze child support out of someone who hates her.
But don’t tell that to the Men’s Rightsers, who assume the worst about this young woman — and then some.
Indeed, some of the regulars there are so angry about it they literally want to get the young woman fired or at the very least admonished for making such a terrible, terrible comment in front of young, impressionable students who, I guess, have never heard a joke before.
Another commenter wonders how it is possible for a chubby woman to also be cute. Because fat women are hambeasts AMIRITE FELLAS HIGH FIVE!!!1!
If you scroll down far enough in the comments you will find some Men’s Rights Redditors wondering if maybe, perhaps, possibly, the woman might be making a joke. But these aren’t the comments getting the upvotes. In the Men’s Rights subreddit, anti-woman hysteria trumps rational skepticism pretty much all day, every day.
Q: How many Men’s Rights Activists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: MISANDRY! SPERMJACKING! MALE DISPOSABILITY! THAT’S NOT FUNNY!
@MEZ
What catgirl described doesn’t sound like a “heat of the moment” thing or a matter of her boyfriend being unintentionally insensitive. When she told him her nightmares, he talked about it as though her nightmares are things that her therapist would merely find amusing. He said that in spite of her making it clear that they were horrible to deal with. When she started crying and lamenting the possibility of never feeling better, he literally said that she would never get better. This isn’t merely unsupportiveness or an innocent mistake; this is downright emotionally abusive.
Nonsense. I know that people sometimes don’t know how to deal with those subjects, but none of what catgirl’s boyfriend did is indicative of that. How does trivializing her traumatic nightmares indicate that he’s poorly equipped to deal with the subject? How does telling her that she will always suffer indicate that he just made an innocent mistake? How does deliberately using words that upset/trigger her and then privileging his understanding of those words in order to silence her bindicate that he’s merely ignorant? How does dismissing her complaints about his behavior by telling her that at least he’s not like her rapist(s) indicate that he’s well-meaning and not trying to silence and guilt-trip her? And how in the world does telling her that taking a break will be harmful for her even though he most likely knows about her friends and her frequency of hanging out with them? The more things I list, the more her boyfriend sounds like an emotionally abusive asshole. And for the record, I have been living with an emotionally and physically abusive father for 6 years. Her boyfriend sounds a lot like my dad in various ways.
“Stringing a guy along” implies insincerity and immaturity. That doesn’t describe catgirl, and it really isn’t unusual or harmful for someone to want a break. I’ve seen this happen all the time.
She has absolutely nothing to apologize for. All she did was object to what he was saying because he hurt her feelings; he, on the other hand, continued to be an asshole despite her crying and telling him he was hurting her. Under no interpretation of the event (even one rooted in victim-blaming) she described can one reasonably say that she “played a part.”
I’m sorry if I glossed over anything, guys. I’m under the influence and I’m not the best at arguing in this state. But I responded to MEZ anyway because this argument is very upsetting.
(Hugs Ally)
I had to actually walk away for a while yesterday, this conversation was bothering me so much. Not even our nastiest trolls have ever had that sort of impact on me before. I think it’s the “I reject your reality and replace it with my own” aspect that’s triggering that response.

I’ve never posted a video and I’m not sure if it will work. How about a baby polar bear?
[CN: abuse]
Thanks for the hug, but just so you know I’m not being triggered by this argument. Even though I face emotional abuse from some family members, none of this argument is triggering to me. There are only certain things I find triggering, like the memory of my dad guilt-tripping me to the point of making me cry uncontrollably right in front of him (in other words, specific events and anything that was said in defense of him). And on top of all of that, I’m too high to be anxious and triggered.
Ok. what did I do wrong? One of you smart folks must know! Sorry 🙁
With youtube links normally I just copy and past the URL? This site doesn’t seem to like the embed links.
testing:
Just copy and paste the link without the embedding feature. In other words, just write this:
http[colon]//www[dot]youtube[dot]com/watch?v=7GrodWcxpP0
Replacing the words delimited by square brackets with their respective characters, of course.
You don’t need any tags?
I’m sure there is a way to use HTML5 tags to embed a video, but that’s much more complicated and might not even work since WordPress seems to restrict the usage of some HTML5 elements.
Nope, just the URL works here for whatever reason.
Also, eli, I see you were using square brackets for your tags. That’s BBCode, which is not supported by WordPress. Let me know if you would like a short list of useful HTML5 elements you can use here in the comments.
Cool! Thanks for the help!
MEZ, can I ask you to step back from this discussion? I think at this point continuing it is upsetting to too many people here.
Oh, I just right clicked and chose to copy the embed link. It didn’t have any square brackets, they just appeared in the comment once it was posted. Odd that.
Thanks for the offer, but I know most of the tags I want to use. I’ve been studying at the W3Schools site.
@auggziliary
I find those types so tedious. Hopefully she’ll eventually learn better.
@auggz
Wow your classmate sounds really unbearable.
Sure, i’d love a list of useful commands. Gimme.
Yay, congrats, eli!
Also that makes total sense that Murphy’s got a “stop messing about with that thing and give me my cookies” expression.
For a terrible moment I thought that said “is twerking on crack/PCP”.
Nothing to apologise for, Ally! Your arguments were concise and very clear, and the only way to not understand them would be wilfully.
@Fibinachi
1. You can use the character sequence “[ampersand]lt;” for the less-than symbol and “[ampersand]gt;” for the greater-than symbol (lt stands for less than and gt stands for greater than). Replace [ampersand] with a real ampersand, of course.
2. The anchor tags <a href=”www.linkexample.com”>example text</a> allow you to embed a link in text. Like this: example text
3. The <b></b> tags are for making text bold and the <i></i> tags are for making text italic. Like this and this.
4. If you ever want to give your text a codey look, you can use the <code></code> tags.
Like this.
That’s all my heavily inebriated mind can think of for now. Sorry if you already knew all of this.
And for us lazy people there’s Firefox’s text formatting toolbar add-on, for which I am eternally grateful to jefrir for mentioning.

“I’m for TRUE equality.” What does that even mean? Sorry…um…what exactly is ‘true equality’ in this context?
@eli: good luck on the job application.
@David: thanks for stepping in.
@Ally: you write better under the influence than many people write sober.
I’m officially too lazy for twerking, even with chemical assistance.
“True equality” usually seems to be code for “you can tell we don’t have it because if we did I would naturally be considered the most amazing and important person ever”.
scott – fair bet “true equality” boils down to “nobody gets any help I don’t and nothing disrupts my comfortable privilege”.
