Wil Wheaton to MRAs: You’re idiots. MRAs: Yeah, well, you’re a mangina! And women actually like you! And your narration is bad!

So the Men’s Rights movement has faced some setbacks in the past. The Southern Poverty Law Center profiling them as a movement filled with hate (if not literally a hate group by the SPLC’s strict definition). Events that literally no one showed up to. Paul Elam.

But MRAs have never faced anything quite like this.

Wil Wheaton — yes, that Wil Wheaton, the one who was on Star Trek TNG — has stated publicly that he thinks they’re a bunch of idiots:

Naturally, this tweet has the fellas in the Men’s Rights subreddit feeling hurt and angry. Well, they always feel hurt and angry, so I guess I mean they feel even more hurt and angry than usual, with a lot of this hurt and anger directed in a Wil-Wheatony direction.

Here are some of their comments. I don’t really have any jokes to make about them because, I mean, just read them. I can’t top this sort of ridiculousness.

Click on the individual comments to see them in context on Reddit. Oh, and note that this comment at the top has MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED UPVOTES.

giegerwasright 119 points 7 hours ago (150|31) Wil Wheaton has never had to live life as a regular man. He has never been treated by women as a regular man. He is a privileged white male. All those things that feminists say that white men have that we recognize are actually really only reserved for rich white men? Well. He's a rich white male. So. What do you expect? Perspective? LOL. He has media to sell and pussy to pander to for approval, hanglowstankin, and profit. permalink source save give gold hide child comments [–]cfornax 63 points 7 hours ago (82|17) Ironic isn't it. He undermines men to elevate his privileged status in eyes of feminists who wish to undermine his privileged status. permalink source save parent give gold [–]giegerwasright 39 points 7 hours ago (53|17) And that, my dear lad, is how the wealthy mangina maintains his status. Key word being "wealthy", a distinction that the unfortunately unwealthy manginas don't recognize. Always. Follow. The money.

Wait. What is “hanglowstankin?” Oh, never mind.

Also, I would bet a mint-in-box Wesley Crusher action figure that Wheaton didn’t call you guys “idiots” because he wanted to pander to “pussy” but rather because you are the sorts of guys who routinely refer to women as “pussy.”

ruboos [-2] 10 points 7 hours ago (16|6) Wil Wheaton has always been a self hating misandrist. I've never liked him. And his narration is atrocious. Listen to "Ready Player One" if you don't believe me. The dude is a joke. Thank you for calling him out in public. He has no excuse.

AnotherDAM 14 points 7 hours ago (24|10) Just because someone is famous in one context does not make him an expert in any, or every, other context. The man made a decent beer with Stone Brewing, he is incredibly practiced at talking with people so don't expect to win a war of words with him or out "cool" him. Just point out to him that he has had everything handed to him on a silver platter his entire adult life ~ he doesn't need to worry about money or getting girls or an invite to the uber-cool CES ~ does not actually mean his opinion matters to anyone but himself. He will eventually get it when all of his male friends start dying decades before his female admirers. permalink source save give gold hide child comments [–]VortexCortex [+1] 4 points 3 hours ago (5|1) I would merely appeal to his sense of logic: "There's much evidence to the contrary, Wheaton; You have not tried try to refute the null hypothesis before holding your belief." Not that it would actually work -- He's an actor who once played a young scientist -- but many of his viewers practice rationality.

DaveDodo007 1 point 46 minutes ago (1|0) Actor benefits from hypergamy, 'I'm all right Jack so fuck you lot.'

Your_Bacon_Counselor 3 points 5 hours ago (6|3) Mr. Wheaton works in an industry that provides the voice to the feminist agenda. If he has any mind what so ever, he knows he can't speak the truth even if he wanted to. Pity the poor servant.

AlphaWookieage of consent laws "criminalize human sexuality" 12 points 4 hours ago (19|7) Will's tune will change when his adopted son goes through the ringer.

But Wil had one defender amongst the Men’s Rightsers:

chocoboat 6 points 5 hours ago (25|19) Wil is still cool. He just got misinformed by some feminists, who in an effort to protect their privilege, smear the name of MRAs and fight against equality when it doesn't serve them. He was taught that MRA = a whiny bitch who wants a return to 1950s gender roles and can't stand women having any power over anything. Of course he thinks that kind of person is an idiot. Don't bash Wil, bash the people who misinformed him. I can virtually guarantee you that he would support the same pro-equality ideas that MRAs do, and that he's against the sexist situations that men sometimes run into (such as being arrested after calling police when your wife attacks you, or being made to change airline seats due to "every man is a pedophile" hysteria). permalink source save give gold hide child comments [–]Zetadood 17 points 4 hours ago (23|4) Nah, no one gets a pass for misinformed ignorance. If he changes his views later on that's different, until then he's a tool.

EDIT: H/T to the AgainstMensRighters for pointing me to this.

…But he did write a whole long scene about how out-of-touch liberals are for daring to suggest that the tech world might privilege certain types of people.

In the same book where he later talked about how tech companies are all white guys so they have to hire mixed-race women as secretaries to fill their diversity quotas.

Which was that book?

In Snow Crash, there’s a memorable observation about nerd culture:

It was, of course, nothing more than sexism, the especially virulent type espoused by male techies who sincerely believe that they are too smart to be sexists.

It flashes in my mind every time some “male techie” says something stupid about sexism.

Actually, I used to think like you all did, when I was immature and self-centered.

“But then I named myself ‘buttboy69’ and went off to fight the good fight on reddit and the comment sections of blogs on the Internet….”

So why are women more likely to be poor than men?

Why are same-sex couples more likely to be living in poverty than heterosexual couples? Why are lesbians more likely to be living in poverty than straight women, gay men or straight men?

I wouldn’t put misandry on the same level as class, either.

Yep, well that’s because misandry isn’t a thing.

No, I do not think that any other form of whiny so-called “oppression” is in any way comparable to going hungry.

We get that. We get that you have no imagination whatsoever, that you cannot grasp the experience of other people’s lives, people who are not your clones.

So the idea that it is the “other” oppressions which cause the poverty and starvation, that real people are in the direst poverty and faced not just with going hungry but with knowing that there is probably no escape for them or anyone like them, that they are trapped in poverty because of who they are. And possibly, that actually poverty is the best they can hope for because the alternative is violence & death. We know you can’t see that.

And you know what – we suspect that you are deliberately not getting it because to do so would be fucking uncomfortable for you to face. But, hey, if you don’t have the spoons …

“No, I do not think that any other form of whiny so-called “oppression” is in any way comparable to going hungry.”

Try living off dollar store food stuffs, as in PB&J on bread that doesn’t allow spreading cuz yeast doesn’t eat HFCS, and oatmeal. Why? Because I’m disabled you twit.

You really aren’t getting how various factors make people more likely to be poor.

Cryptonomicon. I wanted to go looking for the references but it’s a 1000-page book and the parts I want are somewhere in the middle.

Wow, you really are dumb, aren’t you? Sparky has already pointed out the fact that people of color are far more likely to be living in poverty than whites, but I’m sure you’ll do some more hand waving to tell us how that has nothing to do with institutionalized racism.

And yes, it is in fact the most important thing ever. Actually, I used to think like you all did, when I was immature and self-centered. But then, through a variety of ways, I came to viscerally understand both how pervasive and how horrific poverty really is in this shitty world. No, I do not think that any other form of whiny so-called “oppression” is in any way comparable to going hungry.

Dude.

Holy shit.

Gender, sexual orientation, race, and so on all strongly influence socioeconomic status. They are intertwined with class. You cannot separate these factors nor reasonably consider them “secondary.”

I mean, I actually fucking risk homelessness just because I’m trans and non-white.

“I do not think that any other form of whiny so-called “oppression” is in any way comparable to going hungry.”

What about going hungry BECAUSE of other forms of “so-called oppression”, and having the threat of being raped or beaten to death on top of that?

I was immature and self-centered.

Newsflash: You still are. Only an immature turd would say lynchings, rape, gay-bashing and wife-abuse right up to murder are “whiny so-called oppressions” not comparable to hunger. You’re right, they’re not “comparable”. They are WORSE.

And you’re a fuckass for believing that they are “minor”.

Fuck. YOU.

buttboy69

No. Those are exceptional, traumatic events, and they’re terrible. But people in poverty are in a shit bath 24/7. That’s what actual oppression is like.

Fuck it. I try to have a productive conversation and it ends in childish emotional tantrums. Fact is, most people in the developed world aren’t actually systematically “oppressed” in any meaningful sense, and yes, of course that includes me. If you’re having trouble accepting that fact, that’s not my problem.

HAHAHAHA Nope, you disingenuous jerk. We have repeatedly responded to all of your points yet you are the one who keep fucking ignores every other point that people make in response to you. You are the one making this an unproductive conversation. All you are doing is making baseless assertions. And yet you go straight to r/MensRights to talk about how horrible and unreasonable we Manboobzers are.

Own your shit – in the words of FeMRA goddess GirlWritesWhat.

Your comments here indicate you are unfit to join, or make, any group involved in aiding those who face serious systematic disadvantages. It’d probably best if you weren’t more than casual friends with any of said people, too.

buttboy, you’re the one throwing tantrums.

Why can’t you address any of our points? All you do is assert the same things over and over.

Answer my questions. Why are people of color more likely to live in poverty than white people? Why are women more likely to live in poverty than men? Why are homosexual couples more likely to live in poverty than straight couples? Why are lesbians more likely to live in poverty than straight women, gay men or straight men? Why do trans men and trans women experience unemployment at twice the rate of cis men and cis women?

If racism, sexism, transphobia and homophobia are so “minor and transient” then why are these things so?

Augg – at least if you get enough bricks in one place you can build something useful.

I do not want to imagine what enough buttboys in one place would get you, besides nauseated. Or an Ayn Rand fan club meeting (but I repeat myself).

A critical mass of buttboys would probably create a black hole. It’s just too much density (pun intended).

And this is spoken like a truly ignorant fuck. You don’t even know me, and you don’t know anyone else’s struggles, but you just presume to know what’s worst? You, kiddo, are soaking in your privilege.

And you’re obviously not doing badly, if you have a computer to type your stupidities on. I guess you’re not as hungry as you think you are.
