Wil Wheaton to MRAs: You’re idiots. MRAs: Yeah, well, you’re a mangina! And women actually like you! And your narration is bad!

So the Men’s Rights movement has faced some setbacks in the past. The Southern Poverty Law Center profiling them as a movement filled with hate (if not literally a hate group by the SPLC’s strict definition). Events that literally no one showed up to. Paul Elam.

But MRAs have never faced anything quite like this.

Wil Wheaton — yes, that Wil Wheaton, the one who was on Star Trek TNG — has stated publicly that he thinks they’re a bunch of idiots:

Naturally, this tweet has the fellas in the Men’s Rights subreddit feeling hurt and angry. Well, they always feel hurt and angry, so I guess I mean they feel even more hurt and angry than usual, with a lot of this hurt and anger directed in a Wil-Wheatony direction.

Here are some of their comments. I don’t really have any jokes to make about them because, I mean, just read them. I can’t top this sort of ridiculousness.

Click on the individual comments to see them in context on Reddit. Oh, and note that this comment at the top has MORE THAN ONE HUNDRED UPVOTES.

giegerwasright 119 points 7 hours ago (150|31) Wil Wheaton has never had to live life as a regular man. He has never been treated by women as a regular man. He is a privileged white male. All those things that feminists say that white men have that we recognize are actually really only reserved for rich white men? Well. He's a rich white male. So. What do you expect? Perspective? LOL. He has media to sell and pussy to pander to for approval, hanglowstankin, and profit. permalink source save give gold hide child comments [–]cfornax 63 points 7 hours ago (82|17) Ironic isn't it. He undermines men to elevate his privileged status in eyes of feminists who wish to undermine his privileged status. permalink source save parent give gold [–]giegerwasright 39 points 7 hours ago (53|17) And that, my dear lad, is how the wealthy mangina maintains his status. Key word being "wealthy", a distinction that the unfortunately unwealthy manginas don't recognize. Always. Follow. The money.

Wait. What is “hanglowstankin?” Oh, never mind.

Also, I would bet a mint-in-box Wesley Crusher action figure that Wheaton didn’t call you guys “idiots” because he wanted to pander to “pussy” but rather because you are the sorts of guys who routinely refer to women as “pussy.”

ruboos [-2] 10 points 7 hours ago (16|6) Wil Wheaton has always been a self hating misandrist. I've never liked him. And his narration is atrocious. Listen to "Ready Player One" if you don't believe me. The dude is a joke. Thank you for calling him out in public. He has no excuse.

AnotherDAM 14 points 7 hours ago (24|10) Just because someone is famous in one context does not make him an expert in any, or every, other context. The man made a decent beer with Stone Brewing, he is incredibly practiced at talking with people so don't expect to win a war of words with him or out "cool" him. Just point out to him that he has had everything handed to him on a silver platter his entire adult life ~ he doesn't need to worry about money or getting girls or an invite to the uber-cool CES ~ does not actually mean his opinion matters to anyone but himself. He will eventually get it when all of his male friends start dying decades before his female admirers. permalink source save give gold hide child comments [–]VortexCortex [+1] 4 points 3 hours ago (5|1) I would merely appeal to his sense of logic: "There's much evidence to the contrary, Wheaton; You have not tried try to refute the null hypothesis before holding your belief." Not that it would actually work -- He's an actor who once played a young scientist -- but many of his viewers practice rationality.

DaveDodo007 1 point 46 minutes ago (1|0) Actor benefits from hypergamy, 'I'm all right Jack so fuck you lot.'

Your_Bacon_Counselor 3 points 5 hours ago (6|3) Mr. Wheaton works in an industry that provides the voice to the feminist agenda. If he has any mind what so ever, he knows he can't speak the truth even if he wanted to. Pity the poor servant.

AlphaWookieage of consent laws "criminalize human sexuality" 12 points 4 hours ago (19|7) Will's tune will change when his adopted son goes through the ringer.

But Wil had one defender amongst the Men’s Rightsers:

chocoboat 6 points 5 hours ago (25|19) Wil is still cool. He just got misinformed by some feminists, who in an effort to protect their privilege, smear the name of MRAs and fight against equality when it doesn't serve them. He was taught that MRA = a whiny bitch who wants a return to 1950s gender roles and can't stand women having any power over anything. Of course he thinks that kind of person is an idiot. Don't bash Wil, bash the people who misinformed him. I can virtually guarantee you that he would support the same pro-equality ideas that MRAs do, and that he's against the sexist situations that men sometimes run into (such as being arrested after calling police when your wife attacks you, or being made to change airline seats due to "every man is a pedophile" hysteria). permalink source save give gold hide child comments [–]Zetadood 17 points 4 hours ago (23|4) Nah, no one gets a pass for misinformed ignorance. If he changes his views later on that's different, until then he's a tool.

EDIT: H/T to the AgainstMensRighters for pointing me to this.

Hey, buttboy, I’m curious: You say that class issues are the “basis for all other forms of oppression”. But how did the nonwhite people, women, etc, end up with less money in the first place, if there was never any bias against them based on their non-class demographics?

tl;dr

“I should be rich like those rich women and minorities and gays I see on TV.”

The anarchist PUA dudebro I mentioned earlier actually answered that question by saying that class is the source of that inequality. An actual thing said.

opium4themasses

@Katz Are you suggesting that there is an INTERSECTION of different types of discrimination?

But…if it’s only class…how could there possibly be differences in class demographics? Where does he think those came from?

@Sparky nailed it.

Well, let me ask you this, dingleberry: would you rather be a poor white man, or poor black man? Or a poor black woman? Or a poor black lesbian?

If race is no biggie then there is no real difference between being a poor black man and poor white man. Responding to everything by saying you’d rather be rich isn’t exactly that sophisticated a position, but BB69 is sticking to it.

I’d argue we’re the realists who get shit done. And by the way, we’re not some minority.

Via tumblr, reddit and blogs, the class revolution via the internet. Pointing out how sweet the rich have it does not constitute a class analysis, BTW.

@NintenEthan Sorry if someone has already mentioned this but

Are these people getting mad at this just now? I mean, the guy posted this tweet in June of 2013. And now they bitch?

Don’t use gendered slurs on a feminist blog, please.

I’m not sure how everyone feels about “get mad at” – I tend to regard it as just meaning “get angry with” but I bow to the consensus.

Cheers.

I do find the fact that the tweet is seven months old hilarious, I love how something has to fall out of the internet sky and onto a MRAs lap before they notice something. Combine that laziness with a jarring lack of perspective, they are up at arms against a tweet that was retweeted 27 times, and, presto, you have their distinctive brand of internet activism.

I wonder how much more activity this MRA tantrum has generated compared to Wheaton’s original tweet, percentage wise?

@titianblue

I think with “mad” it depends on the context. “Get mad at” clearly means angry- I doubt Argenti will add another unicorn/horse to her collection. But using mad = crazy = bad is ableist.

I think I get it. The “average person” (in the US) is, statistically, middle or working class (depends on the definition), white, cis, straight and female (just slightly, that one is nearly an even split) — also Christian // Catholic.

So, see, we have to defend the middle and working class straight cis white women. Particularly the Christians. Because they’re the majority (perceived in the case of gender)

Any variable in what makes humans human that deviates from the mean is transient, so since wealth is the only case where minority status means you’re better off, we’ve gotta get right on making that wealth shift around! Skin color and sexual orientation and everything else will shift themselves to the mean since that’s a better place to be!

…that is officially the worst twisting of statistical jargon I have ever mangled

Neuroticbeagle — ze // zir for me please, and yeah, I consider “get mad at” to be the same as “get angry at/with”.

shit! I’m sorry.

Please accept my apologies and this puffer fish:

Apologies and puffer fish accepted! I’ve never seen once with such and obvious beak before, that’ saleswomen that’s awesome.

1) my autocorrect is on drugs
2) those four teeth are sorta merged making a wide top tooth and a wide bottom tooth (in theory, I’d never realized just how much of a stretch that is), the pair make up a beak. Making puffers fish with beaks. And the personality of puppies.
2b) portion control is not a thing that they understand

neuroticbeagle

what kind of drugs is the autocorrect on? I might like to try some of those.

portion control is not a thing beagles understand either.

It’ snot on anything fun or interesting, that’d be silliness. It’ dhabi had all the good ones by now anyways. Really, I think it’s dealer laced something somewhere along the way.

All of this was typed perfectly and then “corrected”. Including whatever the fuck dhabi is. Trust me here, having it do this’ll make you hairpullingly angry.

And I’m in need of sleep. G’night, give the beagle some ear rubs from me?

I was told there were lots of crazies on the internet. I never knew just how crazy, till I stumbled across this site.

Oh you’re so original. Noone has ever done a drive-by comment like that before. We’re all in awe of your wit. /sarcasm

Can I go OT a second and ask a question of my fellow gamers? If I really love games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim, will I like Dishonored? I haven’t bought myself a new game since Skyrim, and am trying to find something like those — open world, etc. Any other suggestions of games similar games that were released recently? Oh, I play PC and PS3.

I’m a little annoyed that we have one character option — not everyone wants to play as a dude, I’m sorry!

Aw, guys, you gotta see that r/mr post — we’re as interested in equality as the klan!

Cassandra — well, okay, but why’s it changing the perfectly legit “it’d have” to “it’ dhabi”?

So racism is gone, homosexuality is accepted by everyone everywhere, and discrimination is based on class only? Because some white, straight guy said so? That’s good enough for me! World problems, 99% SOLVED! I better get off my butt and join reddit to keep up with these great thinkers and problems solvers. Why, I bet world hunger is being solved by these brilliant minds as I just sit around wondering what clothes I should wear.

Question, I’d like to know if some sort of harem costume is required to comment here? If so, are they given out for free, or can I go on some payment plan? Do I have to provide measurements or is it one-size-fits-noone? Redditors wouldn’t lie, would they? They said it was a harem here. Teal goes well with my complexion.
