@Ally
Congrats on getting out π Internet hugs from me, if wanted.
Sadly I can’t think of anything that per say will be helpful, so I’ll just leave the offer open if you think of something you need later. π
*need or want. Not just need. Whatever. I can totally type.
Hugs to you, Ally, if they’re wanted. And to katz too for her assistance!
@Ally, congrats and good luck for the future! π
@Falconer, “how we canβt replicate the building methods of the Pyramids and the Coliseum…” this is a variant of an “argument” I have seen for how the pyramids etc were built by aliens from another ?solar system. I have pointed out to the “aliens didit” people that they’re being racist (in the context of the pyramids, not encountered the coliseum one before) and given all the technology and knowledge the ancient Egyptians had, there is no reason for me to disbelieve their capability for huge engineering/architectural works. I want to headdesk for all the people who think that it was Europeans who came along and “saved” everyone else into enlightenment.
Can you imagine doing algebra with roman numerals, let alone calculus? But what did the Romans ever do for us.. π
I started watching three hours of debunking the ancient aliens show, but got bored a half hour in. I did, however, stick with it long enough to encounter a really intriguing theory on the pyramids — inside shafts. As in they built them by dragging the blocks up INSIDE the already built layers. The way some of the corners have fallen apart does seem to reveal shafts that could’ve been used. And there are signs of counterweights having been used to place the Big Blocks over the pharoh’s chamber in the great pyramid.
You tubing debunking ancient aliens and finding the 3 hour one should be enough to find it. I’d say about 20 min in, but I could be off by 10+ min. Skip until after the theories about the outer spiral and long ramp, and the pyramids aren’t the first site, so it’s at least 20 min in. Sorry I can’t be more helpful, but the video did have LOTS of citations, so it might be of help.
Thinking of Ally S!
@Kiwi girl: Nah, he’s claiming we can’t replicate how the Egyptians did it, the blocks are so smoothly joined and perfectly level and not a tool mark on them. (He would take exception to von Daniken if he were aware of him because if the aliens gave us our technology, then God couldn’t have, and especially von Daniken likes Ezekiel’s vision of the four angels for Ancient Astronauts.)
Yeah, they’re over 4,000 years old and apparently someone blew a hole in the Pyramid of Khufu almost 200 years ago and they’re not exactly Legos inside.
What this has to do with evolution or creationism I’m not sure but I think he’s angling towards Loss of Knowledge as proof of a global flood.
At least he isn’t claiming that the pyramids were built from the top down….
Is he aware of this thing known as polishing stone?
Alexandria. If the knowledge survived the fall of the great pharohs, it was likely burnt up at Alexandria. You don’t need a godly intervention to explain what happens when the greatest library in the world burns.
I’m with katz now; we’re just eating lunch quickly at this one stop midway. Things are going great so far. ^_^
Thinking of you, Ally S.
Ally, yay and lots of kitty hugs! Just think of all the kitties you’ll meet at katz’s place. There’s something in the near future to focus on!
@Falconer: WTF about the perfection of the blocks /headdesk
The ancients were quite advanced, e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero_of_Alexandria and http://edsdoors.com/history_of_automatic_doors.htm on the same dude.
Filing methods have quite a history too: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_%28tool%29
Is this the friend with the college degree? /long sigh
I had a small out-of-body experience this morning.
Ok, Kittehs, I’ll bite. How can an out-of-body experience be “small”?
Congratulations Ally! Fingers crossed for you!
titianblue – sort of partially out of body, I guess? Like, not the whole seeing yourself from a distance, more like having half shrugged off a jacket.
Not at all, auggz. I was playing with Mr K’s hair at the time! π
*imagines Mr K’s hair braided with ribbons*
Well, if Mr K was with you, I shan’t worry that it might be dangerous. The out of body, that is, not the playing with hair.
If anything the playing with hair is the more dangerous bit. It wasn’t me that ended up all flushed and put a stop to it. π
@Argenti, what external pump do you recommend for putting water back into an indoor goldfish tank that is about 30 feet from the closest sink, and is over 5’5″ at the top, and the tank thing is on carpet?
We just did another gravity feed water fill, and those 20L plastic containers are hard to lift over shoulder height to do the fill.
@Ally
Yay! Glad to hear it’s going well :3
I’m not Argenti (as you might have noticed) but I do have aquariums, and I love my Python.
http://www.amazon.com/25-Foot-Python-Aquarium-Maintenance/dp/B000255NXC. It might not be quite long enough for your setup, but you can get extensions for them. http://www.amazon.com/Python-Aquarium-Gravel-Extension-20-Feet/dp/B000255NXW/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1391647405&sr=1-1&keywords=extension+for+python. Pythons are great because they’ll vacuum your gravel with more suction than just a gravity feed – especially nice if you have undergravel filters.
(Sorry about the loooong links but I’m cooking dinner and would bork html links right now if I tried.)
Wow, that’s messed up, a bunch of my comment disappeared. Thanks WordPress!
The part that disappeared was this. What you see up there is just the extension for it if you need it. http://www.amazon.com/25-Foot-Python-Aquarium-Maintenance/dp/B000255NXC/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1391647776&sr=1-1&keywords=python
Oh cool, I had seen that and wondered if it would work. What do I do about ageing the water? With the 20L containers, we add a capful of the ager to the container and then fill. How do I get rid of the chlorine with the python system?
I knew I would get good advice on this board! π
serrana, wordpress ate two of my comments in the other thread. They had kitty hugs in them, too – the nerve!
