As requested, an open thread. I’ll try to get these up more often in the future. This one will be overseen by Morrissey with a cat on his head.
No trolls, no arguments.

@kitteh
Not a soul in this house knows I’m leaving. I want to tell my brother, but I’m afraid he might try to stop me from leaving out of concern for my safety.
@LBT
Tea sounds nice. What kind(s) of tea do you have?
RE: Ally
Orange cream rooibos, and possibly a little left of New England Breakfast. I can get your favorite kind, if you tell me what that is!
@Ally
I hope I’m not intruding, but is there anything you’d like to be sent to you? Cuz I can see what I have around the house, if there is.
Ally, I’m glad your brother doesn’t know. I’d be worried he’d blurt something out or say something stupid or, yeah, try to stop you.
Ally, I’m glad (but not surprised) that you’re handling it well.
Ditto what cloudiah said. Also, do you need an anonymous phone? I have one I could send you.
@LBT
I have no idea what the first kind is, and I’m into exotic stuff, so go ahead and sent that (if katz is okay with it)! =D
Just chiming in to let you know that I’m rooting for you Ally. Best wishes on a clean getaway.
It seems that my dad hasn’t said anything about going tomorrow with me, so I can safely assume that he isn’t going to do that with me and instead expects that I get the books myself. That leaves me with the opportunity to get out smoothly and meet up with katz at the scheduled time.
@Marie
If you can think of anything you’d want to send, go ahead (if it’s all right with katz of course)! I can’t think of anything I want specifically, but I’m not picky at all.
@serrana
I don’t think I need an anonymous phone right away, but I’ll definitely consider your offer. Thanks! ^_^
Fingers, toes and eyes crossed here (and you would not believe how tricky it is typing like that).
Everything seems to be going smoothly. I’ll be leaving the house in less than an hour to meet with katz.
I’ve been lurking (well, technically, commenting on other threads while nervously refreshing this page may not count as lurking) in the hopes of an update. I am also typing with my fingers crossed. May all continue to go smoothly.
A friend’s mother once gave me a “mantra” to think of during a particularly stressful time in my life. I’ve been using it again lately, so I’ll toss it out there in case anyone else finds it useful/calming:
You can take care of today.
When tomorrow becomes today, you can take care of that too.
I’ll be safe, cloudiah. Honestly I’m currently way more worried about how the family is going to react to my sudden escape and how to tell my dad that I’m no longer taking any courses. No matter what, though, I’ll be out of here very soon.
I’m rooting for you here in Texas, Ally.
That’s a lovely mantra, cloudiah.
Go, Ally, go!
You can’t control how anybody reacts to you.
(Oh god, that evangelical friend I mentioned watched the “debate” between Bill Nye and Ken Ham last night and has brought it up in our text conversation.)
Damn timing! I guess you just left, but good luck!
On the train now! I left the house quietly and smoothly.
I couldn’t have done it without your help. Thank you so much, everyone. I’ll keep you folks posted.
*throws a party and offers hugs* congrats Ally!
Yay Ally! You go! Congrats!
(My evangelical friends (how’d I end up with more than one, and me a good atheist??) are proceeding to challenge Bill Nye’s arguments with their own, like Nye didn’t acknowledge that the Lost Squadron was found under “billions of years” of ice and how we can’t replicate the building methods of the Pyramids and the Coliseum. I made the error of engaging their arguments, challenging their premises, and asking for evidence. Let’s see what happens.)
@auggz
That’s what she wants to do, but I don’t know if I can today because what lies ahead now is going to be extremely stressful and probably heartbreaking as well.
Congrats, Ally!
So glad to hear it Ally. Welcome to your new life *kitty snuggles*
It’s good to hear you got out safely, Ally. All the best wishes for the future.
Seconding the kitty snuggles for Ally S!
(Okay, so somehow my discussion with my friends about whether the stars were made, or just happened, has come around to Ancient Egyptian Water Lasers.)
