A Voice for Men boldly opposes respect for women

Hardly a controversial message, you wouldn't think.
Hardly a controversial message, you wouldn’t think.

If you live in New York state, you may have seen the poster above plastered on a bus shelter; or you may have seen it posted somewhere on the internet. The message is pretty simple, and it’s sad that it has to be said: kids are pretty impressionable, so teach your sons to treat women with basic respect.

The purpose of the ad campaign, sponsored by the New York state Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, is pretty clear as well: teaching boys respect for women lessens the chances that they will abuse women as adults.

Numerous studies have found that men with sexist attitudes towards women are more likely to try to control their wives or girlfriends with physical abuse. Indeed, one recent study even found that brief exposure to sexist jokes made men more inclined to brush off violence against women, at least amongst men with sexist attitudes to begin with.

Speaking of which, the sexist jokes over at A Voice for Men have unveiled a hilarious new “meme,” which just happens to be inspired by the “awaiting instructions” PSAs we’ve been discussing. And here it is:

From A Voice for Men. I've blurrred the women's faces.
From A Voice for Men. I’ve blurrred the women’s faces.

The logic here is airtight: because some women get drunk and urinate in public, women don’t deserve respect.

I guess men never get drunk and urinate in public, or ever do anything vaguely embarrassing that gets caught on camera?

Is it really asking too much to respect people as people, foibles and all?

Yeah, my little rant at him definitely included how last I checked there were no conditions that could cause serious injury, death, or loss of fertility that require a penis pump. Also, I can see covering Viagra (as with any other prescription, including birth control) but pumps are, uh, a one time purchase and not terribly expensive. Why is that even covered?

Argenti – well, I am surprised! I was thinking it’d be much the same as stats I saw on child abuse, that children in lesbian families are the least likely to experience abuse.

That whole thing about Viagra and penis pumps being soooo important – it’s like here, Viagra is a MEDICINE and IMPORTANT because men who can’t get it up will just die, won’t they? So it doesn’t get hit with the GST (10% goods and services tax).

But pads and tampons? Oh no, they’re classified as cosmetics.

Not necessities.

Cosmetics.

So of course they get taxed.

lol. I don’t think I would take viagra. They can make your heart detonate and/or cause death in a certain area (which admittedly hasn’t seen any use for over three years but nonetheless I’d still rather it not get infected with gangrene).

Yeah, totally not worth it.

I think I would prefer the women around me to get the necessary materials during their monthly thing though.

So I checked out the riveting commentary on AVFM, and as expected it’s completely underwhelming and misogynistic.

They’re saying that the poster is misandric because it implies that men are supposed to put women on a pedestal. But they’re making an interpretation that can’t be made based on the poster alone, especially since the poster encourages respect for women under the assumption that women are generally not respected as much as men because of gender. AVFM is conflating praise and respect – the poster encourages the latter, not the former. If they weren’t making such a conflation, they wouldn’t bring up the “respect is earned not given” adage.

Given that we live in a misogynistic society, not a misandric one, this poster does little else than support existing misogynistic narratives that oppress women, regardless of intent (which is most likely misogynistic anyway). A very common tactic that misogynists use to support their hatred is to cite individual examples of women behaving badly.

Why are women always urinating on men?

Because they know that some of us men are kinky that way?

I blame Cosmopolitan. The editors must have heard that some men are into golden showers, so they went, “OK, we can add that to sex and pickup tips. Go pee on guys you want to impress.”

“When peeing on your man (because all men find that super hot, we promise), don’t forget to remove your panties and use them as a scrunchie. Gets them out of the way and keeps your hair out of your face! Yay, multi-tasking!”

When I worked at the VA hospital, one of my job responsibilities was dispensing the penis pumps. They were usually prescribed for patients who had had prostate surgery. They were packaged in discreet brown cardboard boxes. I don’t know if those patients are getting Viagra now. The curious part was when the contract was up for bid, and the salesmen would come to demonstrate their samples. I had no input into the contracting process, but they were adamant that I know how the pumps worked. Fortunately not one of the things I have dreams about.

I’m not sure if I should be giggling childishly or running away screaming at the image of a demonstration …

Right just like their answer to women being raped by men is women falsely accuse men of rape and women rape men too .They search far and wide for the examples. And you see those same examples being used as the evidence over and over and over .When no one ever said that it never happens .One guy quoted an example from years ago there was a high profile case about a minor lying that she had been gang raped and it appeared racially motivated .(the rape) .

I never forgot this one persecuted victim who just wanted “feminist” to have the common decency to “admit’ that boys are victims of child abuse at the hands of women .Its how that is stated . Normally if someone wants you to “admit” to something its something that you have previously denied isn’t it ?My mind went around in a circle .Who ,please tell me ,what “women” ever said otherwise ? And why the need to separate child abuse into genders ? Gender of the abuser and the victim ? UNLESS you can show that the victim is predomantly one gender and the abuser as well ? Like an issue that “mostly” affects one gender or another.

I try to figure out why they do that. Do they feel personally demonized for whatever reason when satitistics pertaining to the male gender show them being “worse” than women in one area so they have to counter that with something bad women are “worse” about?.Or not even worse but simply women do it tooooooooooooo! Doesn’t matter if its an epidemic for the women and a rarity for the men either.

But in general they seem to think they need to point out these examples in order to shine a light on something people(women and mangina’s) are in denial about . So “women” have been put on a pedestal because everyone is lying or blind to how evil “women” really are .

Don’t respect “women” because HEY look at this picture of these women pissing on the street ! SEE how women are ?????????????

Gosh I’m rambly today !

Also too one viagra cost about $50 that is good for about 4 hours…$50 is enough to buy “necessary ” material for a woman’s period period for 6 months.

I’m curious about the men who buy Viagra online rather than getting it prescribed. Is it just a cost issue, or is it because doctors won’t prescribe it if, say, someone has a heart condition that would make it too risky to take?

katz

Might also be that they’re embarrassed to bring it up with a doctor.

Probably . Even though women have to undergo fairly embarrassing and physically uncomfortable procedures involving her private areas starting at about 20 and getting more invasive through out life just to PREVENT disease or early detect disease. Including just to get a script for hormonal BC.

Then men whine about how they die younger ?

Have ya’ll had a mamogram ? That isn’t EVEN to get off . And its expensive.(and it hurts AND its embarassing)

For me at least its embarrassing to have my cervix scraped under a spot light . And my boobs squished as flat as a pan cake (yes like pancake batter in a skillet) frontways and sideways .

I remember, when I was but a small child, I was in a car with my mom and we had to dodge a man, standing in the middle of the road in the town center, with a bottle in one hand and his dick in the other, urinating on the street seemingly unaware of his location or the fact that there were cars driving by.

I don’t respect women because I am not a sexist.
Automatically giving respect to a demographic of people is stupid.
I extend common courtesy to my fellow people but I do not respect an individual unless they demonstrate that they deserve respect.
Womens expectation to be respected for no reason other than the fact they are women is nothing more than unabashed entitlement, a product of a culture that never teaches women to earn respect but rather teaches them that hey deserve all kinds of special treatment because vagina.

That appropriation of the picture is disgusting. No surprise to me that you find the same people who slut-shame acting the role of the rape apologist, with this being circulated.

I think you kinda missing the point sure the meme is a bit overboard but the general idea is sound and true nobody should be automatically given respect. Respect is something you earn and if it is taught to be just freely given away it will mean nothing anymore. The whole idea of pre training young boys like this is just wrong and is deffinatly something any civilized society shouldn’t even consider doing.

So, travis, you think that teaching boys and young men not to beat up women is “something any civilized society shouldn’t even consider doing.” Because, you know, that’s what the New York State Office for Prevention of Domestic Violence was talking about. Not “respect” as in “hold in personal esteem” but as in “treat how you would any other human being by not beating up.” But hey, some woman somewhere urinated in the street, so obviously, women are not worthy of the kind of basic respect for rights inherent to all human beings. This being a “civilized society” and all that.
