Happy New Year!

My first New Year’s resolution is to finish up my slightly belated Big Year End Review of Manosphere Greatness in 2013. But in the meantime, enjoy this cat, and this open thread.

They’re also unaware that the fecal-oral route is one of the surest, and grossest, methods of disease transmission. Because dang, those guys sure like to eat and play with a lot of poop…

The shithordes are showing their discomfort with anatomy again?

This would be the time to remember why douchebag is a great insult for them.

I’m always curious about exactly what kind of scary ultra-bacteria they think live in vaginas. They appear to be under the impression that women are walking around carrying the ultimate form of germ warfare between our legs, and all we need to do is not douche obsessively 14 times a day for it to reach the point where if we squat and do a leg spread it will obliterate an entire continent.

Ok, I finally read that thread and dafuq? How…but…for one, if your menstraution lasts weeks, plural, I’m guessing you’d get a medical discharge, cuz that’s not normal. For two, there are these things called pads if tampons were an actual issue. For three, yep, wounds can cause sepsis, so how are vaginas some special cause?

Hell, they make wash and reuse thingies now, I’m guessing it doesn’t take much water to clean those.

So yeah, they still know nothing about biology, but more than that, they assume folks with vaginas can’t manage to know how to handle menstraution — something they’ve been doing monthly for, oh, call it puberty at 14 so 4+ years before being in the field. That’s 50+ rounds of practice with menstral blood. Gonna go out on a limb here and assume that by that point they can handle the monthly routine.

2013 was a year with lots of great learning for me, especially in regards to feminism and social justice. It was especially rough when I had scars from an abusive relationship getting reopened, but all in all I think I’ve made leaps and bounds on the way to healing. I’m offering hugs for all, and taking any previous offers made, hoping 2014 is a better year for all involved. The world needs a little less suck.

Also, thought I might keep this community informed, since both this community and the incident, or rather the reaction, has given me hope. I’m in the military, and only a day after reporting the man who’s being a creep/jerk/general ass, I was brought aside into a conference room with the majority of my supervisors, who were very thorough in making sure the issue will be resolved. Unfortunately the next level in the chain of command had left work by the time they were finished gathering accounts from my coworkers, so this will be dealt with on our next workday.

I would say he’s a good guy, but he’s not really. This has given me a new level of faith in the military, and my trainers especially, and I’m actually excited to see what happens. Not for revenge or anything, but so he will get the picture that his stuff isn’t acceptable in any workplace. Hopefully by tomorrow I can tell you all that there’s a bit less suck in my shop.

I can’t come up with anything on that thread cloudiah posted, other than the women in my shop are just as capable as the men, sometimes moreso. Also generally shaking my head. Anywho. Heres to a year that will hopefully see more people trying to decrease worldsuck!

Glad to hear your first step went so well, AIT; hope it continues to go the way it always should. <3

Best wishes to everyone for a great new year! Hugs for those who want them. Sorry 2013 was so awful for a lot of you. You are all great folks.

2013 was good to me too. I graduated, got a job in my field, and two of the best kittens evah.

The end, however, was kind of shitty. The good news is I have a new second cousin once removed, and he is adorable. He could give Falconer’s babies a run for their money.

But the day after he was born his grandmother (my Mom’s cousin) was diagnosed with brain cancer. They removed the only tumor they could find, but the type she was diagnosed with has a really high relapse rate. So my mother might be losing her cousin and my second-cousin her mother within a few years, but we don’t know.

Also, a recommendation: try not to get sick over Christmas. She’d been in the hospital for four days and past of surgery for two and she still hadn’t talked to an oncologist.

wordsp1nner, so sorry about the bad news. Fuck cancer. But I’m glad about the rest of the year, and about the new babby to coo over.

My mother’s been really lucky in terms of the care she’s been getting even over the holidays. But it’s been a pretty grueling experience, and I’m not sure what I’m going to do when my sister goes home (her home is on the opposite coast).

cloudiah — is she returning home soon? We’re expecting a major storm over the weekend, just as a heads up.

Argenti, Nope, my brother-in-law is on his own to deal with the blizzard. Lots of snow, eh?

Keep your fishies warm! Or cold. Or whatever fishies like.

Random:

I just tried doing some C++ (regular expressions in C++ are such a mess) and suddenly in my terminal (command prompt) I got this creepy “WARNING: SYSTEM NOW SHUTTING DOWN” message and then my laptop turned off. X_X If I were sober I would have jumped out of my skin.

Also, Shadow, I love the fact that you have a Tick avatar because that is pretty much one of the best 90s cartoons ever. I saw your comment and then I immediately felt compelled to watch another episode.

Cloudiah — nothing yet, but we’re looking at a foot Friday~ I just hope this isn’t a repeat of the foot called for when Nemo hit. Cuz most fish, including mine, like it warm, losing power doesn’t really work with that (a notable exception to that being koi and goldfish, they don’t need a heater in normal indoor conditions…freaky fish)

Jeez, I spend a few weeks with regular access only via my phone, which won’t let me comment, and all the ableism.

Hmm? What’s that? I’m claiming credit for keeping ableism down on this blog? Well, yeah. Like how global temperatures are obviously regulated by pirates.

Hey Argenti, where’d the “carrots from Shaun” happen? Hope your fishies weather the weather well!

Hugs for everybody who had a shitty 2013, and YAYs for everybody who had a wonderful 2013. Mine’s mixed. I have two wonderful, beautiful babies and I’m exhausted. At least they’re going to start walking and talking in 2014.

It’s just raining here, we’re supposed to get a “wintry mix” but this is Tennessee, we’re kind of like Egypt when it comes to snowfall.

@Serrana et all, 2013 was the year I finally got my shit together! I finally picked a career (having been out of college for 7 years), and I got a job in the field, and fir the first time I make enough money not to be on public assistance anymore. My partner and I moved to our own place, and I have my beloved childhood cat back after ten years of her living with my mom, and just…I had been OK with not having all those things you’re “supposed” to have, but now I have them, and I’m just so deleriously happy that I actually walk to work smiling some days. For a person with depression and recovering from an abusive childhood, it’s so strange to feel happy, but also so freeing. I’m turning 30 this year and for once, I’m looking forward to getting older and having many more years of not hating myself and my life.

@auggz: We’re in Oak Ridge, and it’s sloppy and gonna get colder. I think my car almost hydroplaned this morning: the wheel jerked to the right and I heard water splash on my rocker panels but I didn’t see anything before that happened. Fortunately I maintained control. I’ve spun the sucker a couple times on ice, and when that happens my heart leaps into my throat.

@Auggz my doc recommends sneaking a little spinach into a fruit smoothie. You can’t really taste it, especially id you use cream or bananas. As for cooking, it depends on what kind of veggies you like (and how much meat and/or fat you’re willing to tolerate in your veggies, if you’re getting recipes from me. Swiss chard with bacon is delicious, but not exactly healthful.)

I graduated in 2012, with a diploma set that left me unable to actually study most things in my country, because the conversation scale reduced my mathematics grade down to a non-pass (despite the top tier everything else)…

… Now, I retook math and everything else.

But, erh, y’know, here in 2014 where I’ve just applied for a specific study at a university, it turns out the conversation scale will be updated to make it less idiotic (It is, for one, no longer harder to get into danish universities than Havard, Yale and Oxford elite studies.)

That update also technically renders all the requirement-passing I’ve done in 2013 utterly null from a “admissions” viewpoint.

Hilarious all around.

Life is great and grand otherwise.

Falconer — somewhere around my third unicorn Shaun internet mailed me carrot seeds to feed my growing herd.

… hahahah. Well yes, there are those too, but what I actually meant was conversion.
