I think we’re a bit overdue for another open thread for personal stuff. As per usual, no trolls, no flames, no being a butthead.
I’ll paste in some recent personal comments from other threads.

titianblue – I’m so sorry. Miss Lily’s cancer sounds very like Katie’s, and losing three in a year … that hurts so much.
ALL the hugs.
Ally – that’s wonderful news!
Shadow – 9th to 12th December, do you mean? That is tight! But if you have one day when you’ll be in the city (ie. the CBD) I might be able to swing some time to meet for a coffee there. I’d just get the tram in from work, it’s about a 25 minute trip (our trams are slow, lol).
So I was waiting for the bus and this man walked up to me and told me to tell the sheriff to leave. He threatened me with violence if I didn’t do what he asked in 10 seconds. Thankfully he went inside some building (for much longer than 10 seconds) and then I boarded the bus in time. And he’s nowhere in sight.
What the hell is wrong with people? That was fucking terrifying. I feel shaken up and nervous.
What the … what sherriff, Ally? What the hell was he on about?
[Content note: threat of violence]
It was just some sheriff nearby at the bus stop – he was talking to this group of teenagers. Besides that I have no idea. And then some other guy came from behind and said “If you don’t tell that sheriff to leave in 10 seconds, I’m going to beat you up.”
Sorry for the lack of context. I kind of wrote that in a haste.
Hugs to both Ally and titianblue if you want them. 🙁
Even with context, that’s still WTF-level bullying. 🙁
Hugs for titianblue and Ally, if they’re wanted.
titianblue, I’m so sorry about your Lily. That’s tough.
Ally, WTF? I’m glad you got on the bus okay!
Thanks guys. I’m feeling calmer now.
By the way, cloudiah, in case you missed it I’m ready to come LA once I have the opportunity to do so! katz is willing to drive me down. Perhaps we could meet if you’re down with that and your place isn’t too far from where katz is. =D
come to LA*
Ally, that is scary. So glad you’re well away from that man.
titianblue: So sorry about your kitties. I can’t imagine losing 3 close together. It would just be so heartbreaking.
titanblue – My heart goes out to you. We lost two in a year once, and it was awful.
Ally, I saw that, and I’d love to meet you and katz!
I learned today that there’s a douchenozzle who thinks that prank calling Childline is hilarious.
(Childline is basically the UK’s child abuse hotline. For kids. To report abuse and get help.)
Hugs to titianblue and Ally. The world is so sad sometimes and so scary sometimes.
Alice – is it known who this person is? 🙁
I have a YouTube video that this douche put up.
He’s so proud of his douchery that he’s made a YouTube video of it? What a terrible human being.
In completely unrelated news, apparently it is illegal to own more than 3 cats in Los Angeles unless you apply for a kennel permit. (For the record, I’ve never owned more than 2 at one time.) They’re probably going to raise that number to 5.
It’s not that different here, cloudiah. Two dogs or two cats, which are supposed to be registered with your local council, and you have to pay “excess pet fees” for more.
Of course plenty of people just don’t register their pets at all.
Last time I mentioned to my vet how I’d love to have a third kitty but can’t, he said, “So who’s going to tell them …”
Veterinary surgeons, subverting the gummint!
Of course they would; they don’t work for the government- they work for the Furrinati!
Mais oui!
I really suspect that if I adopted a kitten from my vet, he’d just quietly forget to pass on the information to the local council. Alas, I can’t put it to the test, ‘cos looking after a kitten isn’t feasible these days for Mum and me.
We have something similar in Houston, cloudiah. My neighbor across the street got a ticket for having 4 dogs without a kennel permit. They were/are adorable. well-behaved Westies with collars and tags, so it was kind of surprising. (She gave one to a family member, I think.)
We’re supposed to register our animals with proof of rabies vaccination every year and pay a fee, but I never bother. I get their vaccinations, I just don’t register them.
Drat, it looks like our train trip through the Rockies is off. My friend can’t get that much time off; we’ll have five days in Chicago, with luck.
I’ll want to arrive a couple-three days before we set off, so I can get over any jet lag and meet any LA Manboobzers who’re free. Looks like the trip will be in May, at this stage.
Good news is my friend’s getting married this year! She and her fiance were planning to wait until the film he’s scripting is a done deal, but they’ve figured it’s not worth waiting on something that may take years if it happens at all, so they’re doing a really small wedding and then going to the London SF convention next year for their honeymoon.
@Auggz, there are people who let their dogs roam freely, like cats? That seems like a great way to lose your dog. Are there leash laws where you live?
