Redditor fights Jaclyn Friedman’s accusations of Men’s Rights misogyny with … more misogyny

Proper credentials are very important in internet arguments
Proper credentials are very important in internet arguments

Well, so far this is my favorite response to Jaclyn Friedman’s American Prospect piece on the Men’s Rightsers and that woman-hating problem of theirs. Because what better way to refute charges of misogyny than by declaring derisively that you “can usually spot whether or not a woman wrote a piece by the first few sentences?”

Let’s let rjworks13 explain just why Friedman lacks the intellectual heft to be taken seriously by serious men with credentials — sorry, CREDENTIALS — like him:

rjworks13 3 points 5 hours ago (4|1) I'm still uncertain if posting these pamphleteer hack writers should be posted in this men's rights forum. Hear me out. CREDENTIALS: I'm a long-time trained technical and creative writer from male-based military training and put to use over 20 years. I've gotten so gifted (or cursed) that I can usually spot whether or not a woman wrote a piece by the first few sentences. I'm probably one of the few males who have read all of Susan Faludi's work - she's actually an impressive writer, feminist or no. Jaclyn Friedman is a hack huckster. She's at the low end of the feminist writer pool with a Master's of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Not impressive. Her claim to fame is to act as rear guard for Women, Action and the Media (WAM), a watchdog organization to exploit the missives of any opposition to the feminist movement which now controls the media. Unlike Susan Faludi, her intent is not to give any men's groups a fair shake. Notice how she took down every sub-group of the MRM. That's her strategy - to flesh out any and all real or perceived faults with the MRM by attacking it's sub-parts. Her writes are propaganda in style telling women how to think about MRAs, MGTOW and man (including players) in general. Our response should be simply that we dismiss anything written or published by Jaclyn Friedman and those like her. MRMs should practice and demonstrate a standing rule. "We do not recognize individuals or groups who use deceptive rhetoric, lies, indifference propaganda or hate tactics, to shore up opposition against the the benevolent efforts of egalitarianism of any sexual orientation, seeking the manifestation of legislative egalitarian values." My 2 cents.

Oh boy.

I have to say that very favorite sentence of all in this wondrous bit of HeManWomanHatersplaining is this one, if it can even be called a sentence:

CREDENTIALS: I’m a long-time trained technical and creative writer from male-based military training and put to use over 20 years.

Oy. I can only assume from the evidence of this, er, sentence, that as a technical writer his job is to make sure that instruction manuals are as unreadable as possible. And that his “creative” writing most likely consists of many volumes of self-published Gorean porn.

If you want to compare Jaclyn Friedman’s CREDENTIALS with his, you can always go to her Wikipedia entry. I looked around a bit for rjworks13’s Wikipedia entry, but he doesn’t seem to have one.

rjworks13 was evidently so proud of this bit of writing of his that he deleted it. Luckily, I grabbed a screenshot beforehand. ABS: Always Be Screenshotting.

PS What’s “indifference propaganda?”

Female, male, male, male, weak male, male

So far it’s well below 50% accurate, let alone 60-70%, going gender essentialist.

I’d love to know how it analyzes it.

I’m trying to think of something that I’ve written that wouldn’t identify me, that I could send to katz. Failing.

There are lots of subs on Reddit that are cool. Two of my current favorites are r/badhistory and r/photoshopbattles. SRSdiscussion is pretty cool, not a circlejerk like SRS. r/againstmensrights is fun, but it has a very different culture than here. They’re not ableist, but still throw “crazy” & “insane” around a lot, and there’s no consensus (like here) that that ain’t cool. r/awww is where I get a lot of my brain bleach.

I’m partial to SRS but I’m biased because I’ve been there a long time.

Oh, and r/goldredditsays is kind of the opposite of SRS (and still part of the fempire)–a place to post comments that showcase people being smart and decent on Reddit.

Athywren — LBT, among other things, writes. He’s been doing sorta fundraiser type things with a theme and -athon tacked on the end, cuz they are write-a-thons. So spookathon is one with the theme of “the spook”.

Ooh, interesting. I’ll have to keep an eye out for other -athons then. (I’d get involved with this one, but I’m skint for at least the next 5 weeks.. so… boo.)

Heh. Just tried my knitting pattern in that gender thingy. It still thinks I’m a bloke.

OT – Roissy the Pathetic has been trying to hassle PZ Myers. He sent him one of those witless surveys of his (you know – women are of value when they’re barely of age and have a D cup, men are of value forever). Needless to say, they’re having a huge laugh over its stupidity and PUA grossness in general, at Pharyngula.

Athywren — you can still give him prompts, other people might sponsor them!

Cloudiah — I went for a chunk of an email, not a personal one, just me rambling to pecunium about that destruction of property discussion the other day.

RE: Athywren

For the benefit of those of us who are still recent to the site and aren’t entirely familiar with everything everyone does [basically, I’m asking for me], what’s spookathon?

Oops, sorry! Argenti pretty much covered it, but yeah, every other month or so, I pull a theme out and take writing prompts from my readers, and then I write stories to them. Money comes in, and then I post the stories for all to see. Manboobzers are a common sight! Here, if you like, you can check out how they tend to run by visiting my writeathon tag.

And fear not, if you are broke! You can still prompt things. In fact, I encourage folks to, because I have a few folks who never prompt but only sponsor, so it keeps the balance, plus it might end up posted anyway due to a free word count. Don’t let your thin wallet hold you back!

RE: hellkell

Really? Could’ve sworn that in Spaceballs, it was the Schwartz…

Because I’m still relatively new here, and tend to participate sporadically, I don’t know the gender of many of you who have gender-neutral handles. Very little in most comments suggest a strongly “masculine” or “feminine” voice. And I don’t ever feel I “need” to know in order to appreciate your comments. What I do “get” is a strong impression that most of the regulars are more literate than average (that despite the occasional typos). Maybe we’re just a bunch of “weak males” regardless of our gender identities!?

@LBT – I have to back you up on the Schwartz thing; that is definitely the word they use in Spaceballs. My sibs and I were pretty obsessed with that movie when we were kids (probably because it was the most inappropriate thing we were allowed to watch, which in its turn was probably because of the nostalgia factor for our parents), and I had a friend with the last name Schwartz, so that spelling is pretty indelibly marked in my brain, haha.

Dear Blowhard,

Although I’m not normally a stickler for so-called “proper English,” I must admit to suffering from a great deal of secondhand embarrassment when you make a long series of grammatical mistakes resulting in an incomprehensible string of words right after metaphorically masturbating in your reader’s face on the topic of your alleged credentials and respectability. Nobody likes a gratuitous public masturbator. Cut it out, please.

Also, did you know that Reddit has an edit button? Perhaps you were drunk when you wrote and simply regretted the whole screed, but I feel you should know about it so that you can use it in the future.

Love,

Tulgey

They may have used shwartz in Spaceballs to be a little cleaner.

Funny. Usually I can tell if a woman wrote something by reading the attribution. Seems a lot easier than guesswork, although I suppose a name doesn’t always reflect a gender identity, but with a name like Jaclyn I think you can make a safe assumption.

I’m actually glad Jaclyn Friedman wrote that article because it made me hate the Men’s Rights Movement beyond redemption. I also want to thank the founder of Manboobz for showing the true and ugly side of the MRA.
On-topic though, the guy is delusional, just like any other MRA out there.

I don’t know if I should point this out, and I shall add TRIGGER WARNING to this just in case, but I guess Manboobz will have his hands full on “The Amazing MRA” who has recently made a video in which he denies the existence of rape culture.

It just amazes me how I initially got indoctrinated by liberals and MRAs which their mindset that the feminists are out there to crucify them all and all are evil monsters who want to make men suffer as long as it benefits women. And now they’re saying rape culture doesn’t exist. Pathetic.

The only things I remember from Spaceballs are “Moichandising!” and this bit –

I’m gonna have to rectify that.

@LBT I might actually have something in the recesses of my mind that might fit the topic of spooks. I’ll have a rummage and add my prompt to the pile when you open it up. 🙂

@katz, can I ask real quick, this survey isn’t going to be for-profit or anything, is it? I’m happy to contribute but I only have limited rights on some of the samples I’d send you, and I want to be safe.

Nah, this is 100% for amusement and edification.

RE: Athywren

Sweet! I’ll be formally opening up on October 30th, but I’ll also be letting folks know here on Manboobz, and my old forum post is always handy if you can’t remember when the next one is. (Or if I can’t find you and have posted a prompt of yours, that’s a good place to look. I try to rig it so folks don’t have to constantly check back to see if I’ve gotten their story ready.)

LBT

Also, I highly encourage my prompters to be creative with the prompts. The more oddball, generally, the more fun I have writing them!

Off-topic, but someone claiming to be GGG (Governments Get Girlfriends) posted twice to a thread about him on Free Jinger yesterday.

http://freejinger.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=83&t=19656

He claims he didn’t delete his blog, just changed it to thatincelblogger.wordpress.com . If true he’s (spoiler) abandoning pushing for the government to give him a girlfriend for reasons of eugenics- he doesn’t want all those douchebags out there breeding!!!!1!! He also threatened eventual suicide in the same post.

“I will try to get to a country outside of femisphere but it’s probably not gonna happen as I am poor and have shitty major (history) so I’ll probably end up offing myself.”

I think I’d have jumped off the bridge BEFORE begging one of my parents to fuck me.
