So over on the Men’s Rights subreddit, a fella named dzogen came by to vent about his unfair divorce.
Seems his “freeloader and loser” of an ex-wife — a former drug addict — sits around the house eating bon bons while happily collecting $2500 a month in child support for the five year old kid they had together. Also, she treats him with disrespect. “Meanwhile,” the poor fella wrote, for an added dose of pathos, “I have to survive on PB&J.”
*cough*shitthatneverhappened*cough*
Dzogen ended his post with a wish, and a bit of advice for the rest of the guys reading his tale of woe:
I can only hope karma will get her in the end as I have no options to address the fact that legally men have to bend over and take it by their ex’s, legally sanctioned by anti-success, anti-male laws.
My moral of story: Don’t ever get married. It’s a bad deal for men.
Naturally, the helpful fellas of the Men’s Rights subreddit stepped in with some suggestions for how poor Dzogen could improve his sad life. Naturally, there were those who suggested that he (and the other men who shared their own stories of divorce gone wrong) flee the country “and leave her worthless ass high and dry.”(Just load up the comments there and do a find on the page for the word “leave” to find many more.)
But there were others with more, erm, direct suggestions. Like Justin here:
Huh. A dozen upvotes for a literal call for murder.
And then there was this exchange, in which a comment advocating murder received not one but two dozen upvotes, and those who criticized it got downvotes:
This particular exchange has since been deleted by Reddit admins or the subreddit’s mods.
But numerous other calls for murder remain up as of this writing, including Justin’s comment above, and this one from Kappies10:
This one from Pecanpig:
This one from the cheerily named HoneyPuffBear:
This delicately worded suggestion from eloquentlnemesis:
Oh, and this one from Skyrimnewb, although it isn’t literally a call for murder:
The Men’s Rights subreddit: A place good men in trouble men with fake stories can turn to for help suggestions to kill the bitch.
Thanks to the good folks of the Against Men’s Rights subreddit for pointing me to this thread and most of the terrible quotes here.
That is NOT what is meant by “upcycling”!
emilygoddess – DAMN YOU NOW I HAVE TO GO BUY THAT THIS WEEK FROM RALPHS.
oh i forgot, to get a date – one must be human. mras don’t qualify. silly me 🙂
So, I’m reading through the “Justine” post on Pharyngula, and somebody posted a pic of his kitty Matisse with her ducky.

Not a recommendation for that post, by the way. Most especially not for the thing that inspired the post. There’s a whole pile of suckage there that I just don’t have the energy for tonight. But I do appreciate that kitty pic.
I was reading that post too, Unimaginiative. Matisse is teh gorgeous. Did you see PZ’s post on Ivy? I think there’s a link to Mattisse’s sister Picasso in that one.
Seconding about not reading the Justine post that inspired it. I am not going there.
Awww, who’s the cutest little kitteh!
Picasso
What’s all this “Justine” stuff? I want to look it up but I better find out what it is first…
There’s a thread on Pharyngula linking to a woman named Justine who wrote about how she was sexually assaulted at a tech conference. The original piece she wrote has a cesspit of the worst pro-rape filth on it: keep clear.
Oh. No. I will keep clear indeed. Thanks for the warning.
No probs. The original article’s (tweet’s? dunno) comments were so bad PZ Myers warned people not to read them, and those Pharyngulites who ignored the warning wished they hadn’t.
I once had a mouse named Pollock 🙂
That fool again?!
And I thought you meant computer mouse, mostly cuz I’m so far into the guts of my mac it ceased being funny hours ago!
Aww, why don’t you like Pollock?
What fool, Argenti? Pollock? Owly?
I am deep in the land of wtfhorrorbemusement looking at Ugly Rooms for the Beautiful People. I blame cloudiah.
I accept responsibility. XD
Katz — that thread he got into it with pecunium, and my whole do not mess with my friends.
I’m sure your mouse was lovely.
You guys just inspired me to break out the jar of almond butter that only has a tiny bit left. It’s just better for you so I eat it instead of peanut butter. I put it on gluten free cinnamon raisin toast with honey and sliced bananas.
What Pollock are you talking about, Argenti? I was thinking katz’s mouse would be named for the painter (is that right, katz?)
I did some searching, and some states do in fact have cruddy alimony policies. Those same states, however, also have advocacy groups working to change their laws. If the MRA folks would get off their lazy asses and start supporting such groups, the might actually make a difference! A shocking prospect.
I think states like Utah that limit alimony durration based on the number of years married, and alimony amount based on the wealthier spouse’s income, have got it right. It’s the states that leave things up to judge discretion that are causing problems.
I’m going to give the MRA gentlemen the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the existence of “asshole judges” and assume they just overestimate the prevalence of said judges. After all, if the judge is fair (and the parties involved are smart enough to realize s/he is fair) then who is going to go online and complain about it? There is definitely major reporting bias going on.
Oh God that lileks link is a precious gem. I’ve bookmarked it so that I can savor it tomorrow, fully sober.
Erm…yes, the mouse was named after the painter. The mouse was, in fact, a living part of an art piece.
I’m pretty sure that the only reason the guy is reduced to eating PB&J sandwhiches is because he never learnt how to cook, because that’s women’s work. Then he ended up needing to feed himself…
This took me 5 min to find with the googles, so yeah. Not real hard to debunk that guy’s claim that he lives on PB&J. Besides if you’re really that broke, and trust me I know that road, you really can’t go wrong with a bunch of Ramen.
