I’ve learned a lot about myself in the process of writing this blog. For example, this week, I learned that I’m a “vile, subhuman thing” who “like licking sh*t of feminist’s shoes” and “just wants every man cuckolded.” Also, I have some interesting and specific tastes in porn that even I was unaware of.
I learned all of these things from the always reliable purveyors of accurate and unbiased information in the Men’s Rights subreddit, in a thread ostensibly devoted to my coverage of the recent events in Toronto, but which ended up being more devoted to my various alleged failings and my alleged preferences in the porn realm.
Let’s take a look!

Evidently Alisdair isn’t one of those who actually clicked on the link to my post in the thread, because he apparently believes that my post was a do-it-yourself guide to cuckolding other men, or perhaps a guide to getting cuckolded. I’m not sure..
And then there’s JayBopara, a MHRA warrior who seems a bit obsessed with what he for some reason believes are my preferences, porn-wise:

2) What on earth is “mangina porn,” anyway?

Also, despite the similarities in the first three letters of the words, and the involvement of women in each, there is no real connection between “feminism” and “femdom.” One is a social and political movement; the other is a kink.

The difficulty of getting away from those mainstream porn dynamics/terms is why I tend to prefer written erotica, and I suspect is a major reason why many other women do as well. I’d actually prefer to watch a video or whatever when I’m in the mood for that, but it’s so hard to find something that appeals to me and I have to sort through so much shit that disgusts me (and I don’t mean the acts, I mean the way the women are referred to in the titles even) that it’s just not worth it.
@kitteh, I just realized I never came back to the last thread I posted in with those cat rescue resources. Can you refresh my memory on what your friend needs? I remember she was in Illinois and something about kittens, and that’s about it. I’m sorry I’ve been so flaky, I’ve been on 14 SAR calls in 3 weeks (and it’s a volunteer job so that’s on top of all my other responsibilities) and it’s just drained me. I’m taking this weekend totally off to be lazy and have fun though,so I can definitely get you that information if your friend still needs it.
Right now though, I’m heading off to the dog park with my poor neglected puppy dogs. I’ll likely be back on later though…my husband is out of town and I’ve planned a nice quiet night in. 🙂

I seriously dislike live porn. I think it looks gross and sticky. It’s a thing with me, I don’t like anything dirtying my hands or skin, so the look of live porn just is such a turnoff. I don’t mind drawn porn, since it doesn’t have that same issue… But yeah, live porn = super gross for me, and that’s not even mentioning all the issues inherent in the industry.
Live porn for me, from all the stills I’ve seen (never watched a video) just looks ultra boring these days, and the mainstream stuff – boring AND hateful. I’m not really into watching generalised other people doing sex. Plus, if it’s not a feminine-looking guy with long curly hair and a little moustache, then it’s a total turn-off.
Yaoi doesn’t appeal either; I don’t find manga art styles appealing in any context, let alone sexytimes.
Years ago I wrote a whole alt-history gay-romance novel about Louis, before I thought it would be possible for us to be together. Heavily illustrated and with lots of adult-only chapters, lol. These days? Not necessary and almost distasteful to me (not him, he’s not bothered) simply because it is fiction, however much it was written with love and a wish for him to be happy back in his earthly life.
Real current memories are much more fun. 😉

RE Yaoi, the stuff that people are specifically calling out as abusive actually is porting het relationships onto gay relationships in just as direct a way as the “top must be taller, bottom must be super submissive” thing. Have you seen any of the Japanese or Korean (or to a lesser extent Chinese) TV dramas aimed at women and young girls, particularly the ones based on manga? Brief summary – boy meets girl, spends 12-15 episodes telling her how ugly and stupid and spoiled and childish she is, and then it turns out that he liked her all along! And then when they get together he still “teases” her by calling her ugly, stupid, etc, and muses about how odd it is that he could love such a worthless girl. See any version of Playful Kiss or Boys Over Flowers (both based on manga). The sad thing is that these aren’t some middle aged dude’s idea of what women want, most of them have female authors.

Me either. The creepy fetishizing of rape and abuse really skeeves me.
Often the heroine starts out strongly objecting to the way the male lead treats her and thinking he’s a jerk, but then she realizes that he loves her, you see, so it’s OK. Often there is a secondary male lead who is much kinder and nicer to the female lead, and usually at least as good looking if not more so, but she just sees him as a friend/brother. I usually end up wondering why she didn’t prefer that guy.
I’m not sure why this relationship dynamic is so common in female-written manga, but it’s really really common. Shows up in other stuff not based on manga too, like the drama Full House, where the entire cast (except for the secondary male lead) spend the entire series telling the female lead that she’s just not pretty enough for the male lead to be interested in. To illustrate how ridiculous this is, this is what she looks like.

I’ve seen that trope a lot as well, CassandraSays. I feel relieved when I watch an anime that doesn’t include that trope. It’s one of the things that really pissed me off about Ranma 1/2 when I watched it.
