More Amazing MisogynArtistry from deviantART

effcts_of_feminism_by_alexlartwork22-d5ft932

Here — above and below — are a couple of amazing works of Men’s Rightsy propaganda I missed in my survey of deviantART yesterday, both from a fellow calling himself alexlartwork22. And, yes, they both seem to be meant completely seriously.

you can lose a lot of money chasing women but you'll never lose women chasing money

Thanks, Tulgey Logger and Cloudiah for finding these!  Is anyone else reminded of Chick Tracts here? The crude drawing, the melodrama, the excessive word balloons?

My post yesterday inspired (or at least provided the excuse for) rather a lot of comments, many of them rebutting a Men’s Rightsy fellow calling himself Good. Below, a graphic from Katz memorializing one of Good’s more, er, memorable pronouncements.

If men dominate the world, why is that the case when men and women are equal in numbers?

I know these are like supposed to be misogynistic but they just come across as really baffling. I mean, I have no idea what the top comic is saying, except that the artist dislikes feminists, and also doesn’t know what a feminist does. So…kinda rambly but. I’m just baffled.

@alice

(Oh, by the way, my interview went well, I think. Now I have to wait about two weeks for the results. I’m crossing my fingers.)

yay! Fingers crossed for you! 😀

@Xen

dA is a cesspit as it is. There’s tons of people passing themselves off as “artists” when my younger sister could draw better than them (no seriously, she can. I think she’s an alien).

? I mean I don’t get the big deal. It’s just a public art site, and surprise, surprise, not everyone starts out great. When I got on I was pretty bad but it sure helped me keep track of my progress. I mean, bad art isn’t this guy’s problem, it’s him being a misogynistic ass :/

But I’ll use you very line the next time something is blamed on the dreaded, mystical patriarchy.

Right. It was just a coincidence that women couldn’t vote, or own land.

Modern feminism was born in 1963 you dolt. Read a book.

So, how are we defining ‘modern feminism’? Inquiring mind wants to know.

His first post didn’t even specify “modern feminism.” He changed it because I pointed out that feminism existed long before we went through a major social regression in the post-war era.

Let’s see, so you’re saying we shouldn’t expect to see any sort of feminism considering the idea of ‘marrying up’ before 1963? Feminists never talked about that stuff?

Hmmm.

And you think feminism isn’t achieving its goals in the last 20 years?

And your solution is ‘less feminism’?

I think you’re kinda not very smart.

I’m not interested in teaching books by women. Virginia Woolf is the only writer that interests me as a woman writer, so I do teach one of her short stories. But once again, when I was given this job I said I would only teach the people that I truly, truly love. Unfortunately, none of those happen to be Chinese, or women. Except for Virginia Woolf. And when I tried to teach Virginia Woolf, she’s too sophisticated, even for a third-year class. Usually at the beginning of the semester a hand shoots up and someone asks why there aren’t any women writers in the course. I say I don’t love women writers enough to teach them, if you want women writers go down the hall. What I teach is guys. Serious heterosexual guys. F. Scott Fitzgerald, Chekhov, Tolstoy. Real guy-guys. Henry Miller. Philip Roth.

Dammit! I rip apart the study trying to clean the bookcases and I’m missing a meltdown.

Also, who the hell links to HuffPo for science? Like, seriously, that’s like linking NaturalNews as evidence for your anti-vac views.

What? Are you suggesting that Mike Adams: Health Danger is not a credible source?

Not caught up, and I see that No Good is here, but I gotta comment on burning gifts. What’s wrong with gifts? Friends exchange them sometimes, and this is a problem?

Relatedly, apparently my Halloween candy has been opened a month early, anyone want some since I’m going to have to restock anyways? I have quite a variety, and my father bought bubbles if anyone wants to play.

They were comparing the 38% to the 20% in 1949, which indicates that the rise of feminism has coincided with a greater tendency for women to “marry up”.

Two datapoints indicate precisely fuck all. Three data points tell you very little. Four data points don’t tell you much. Five data points tell you a bit. Six data points start considering being useful….

Comparing the numbers in 1949 and 1990 tells you nothing unless you know something about:
a) the numbers in the intervening years.
b) the factors that influence those numbers.

Gods, this obsession with dating? How much is it even a thing? It sounds so US-centric, so much like these guys are living in the 50s (surprise).

Also Spock-eyebrowing that “sniffing baby’s pajamas” so-called study. Possibly because I’m one of those outliers who, while I like seeing pics of friends’ babies (love your album link, Falconer – look at those two grow!) have no desire to cuddle babies, much less chew on them.

Re: teething – elder stepson was born with two teeth. Wet-nursing him might have been a great honour but ow, rotten job.

First page done and men paying is always sexism? Pecunium! That you make a shit ton more than me is moot, let me buy my own damned coffee creamer next time! (See above regarding gifts!)

Pecunium…I retract my comments on your messiness, I found a frito in my bed earlier!

I hate letting men pay for me on a date. Some guys won’t let you pay and it gets annoying. When a man pays for something you are in his debt and that is a vulnerable position.

I bought myself some chocolates the other day. Proper high brand boxed chocolates (although massively reduced). The guy who was serving me asked if I was treating myself. When I said yes, he became uncomforrable. By not cooking, cleaning and caring for someone else I have time to earn money I can use to by myself flowers, chocolates and meals out. It is wonderful! Seriously though the first comic sells being single really well.

An analysis of figures for Britain shows that in 1949, 20 per cent of women married husbands with significantly higher levels of education than their own.

So, are we defining “marrying up” based on income or education?

Athywren, you’d need to know about the social distribution of society as well. Marrying up would have been less likely in a society with a smaller number of classes.

11th century! Everyone read a book! I’m reading “Sharpe’s Triumph,” it’s really good!

Fun fact… I once told an MRA that proto-feminism reached back into the medieval age (because he also bought into the idea that feminism sprang out of nothing in the ’60s) which led to him asserting, “oh yeah? Well men’s rights has been around since the beginning of time!!!” Which was good, because until then I hadn’t realised that we were competing about that.
Modern feminism was never born any more than a teenager is born on their 13th birthday, it’s just the maturation of a very old concept.

Pear_tree — I’m not normally big on owing favors, but this is pecunium (and I suspect he felt bad about not having coffee creamer I can use, since his kitchen is already a mishmash of dietary restrictions and my lactose intolerance is probably the least complex to work around)

…also, we’re even, I didn’t kill anyone on the subway (it was packed and I don’t do people)

I’ll only owe favors to people who I think will either not consider it a favor, or want repayment in kind (e.g. Next time I am buying that canoli, and one for him, if he so desires)

I’m commenting as I read. First thoughts, on the first poster:

Special treatment: haha!
Paying for dates? Okay, since I’m broke I’d technically like that, but only if I was dating a guy or gal who could afford it. More of a financial thing than a gender thing.
Opening doors? pfft. Even with something that makes it hard to open doors (wheelchair + weak arms + heavy doors = no fun) I’d rather manage myself than have some resentful ass insist he needs to do it b/c chivalry.
Flowers and candy? Are only men allowed to buy flowers and candy fro mstores or something?

Okay, I’m done with the post. On to the comments.

@Alice Sanguinaria

Good luck! I hope you get the job.

@Xen

Eh. *shrug* I don’t really see the harm in posting bad art. My first deviations are sucky, but posting and keeping track was how I motivated myself to get better. Not like da doesn’t have plenty of skeevy elements, but I don’t see how “there are untalented people” fits the bill.

@Good

1920 is the year suffrage was passed after 80 years of activism by feminist women. Feminism existed in 1920

Modern feminism was born in 1963 you dolt. Read a book.

This is true. There is no feminist history before then. Back before 1963, there were no feminists thoughts. There were no beginnings of the movement. The earth was pure.

Then a demon rose up from hell and handed a copy of The Feminine Mystic to Betty Friedan
