Women are lying when they say they want more dicks on TV, Men’s Rights Redditors explain

Artist Louise Bourgeois also pretended to like dongs.
Artist Louise Bourgeois also pretended to like dongs.

So for some reason the fellas on the Men’s Rights subreddit are discussing an article by Australian newspaper columnist Clementine Ford in which she expresses her desire to see more dongs on television.

As she notes, there are plenty of boobs on display on HBO shows like Game of Thrones, yet “rarely are we treated to the visual smorgasbord of a well stocked meat platter. ” Ford is sick of it.  “So bring on the parade of wangs, willies and woodies!” she demands. “I’m fond of a wand and I’m not ashamed to say it.”

I’m not terribly familiar with the writings of Clementine Ford, but evidently she’s not big on subtlety.

Anyway, the fellas in the Men’s Rights subreddit aren’t having any of it. Nuh uh. They ain’t buying it, ladies! You may write columns about how you want more wang on TV. You may talk about it with your friends. You may have gigantic collections of peen pics hidden away on your hard drive.

But the MRAs of Reddit know better. It’s all some devious feminist ploy, as Steampunk_Moustache helpfully explains.

Steampunk_Moustache 1 point 5 hours ago (2|1) It's rather funny seeing feminists pretend they want to see penises just so that they can make this (weak) argument, isn't it? Women don't want to look at dicks. Women don't get turned on by the sight of dicks. Do you know who gets turned on by the sight of dicks? Ironically, straight men.

Huh. That took an odd twist at the end there.

But it’s our old friend Giegerwasright who provides the real answer, in the form of a wall-o-mansplainin’ so giant that I had to shrink the text to even screencap it.

giegerwasright 27 points 10 hours ago (31|4) OK, my negroes. I'm going to lay this out for you. Because the women in this article and the writer of this article... they aren't interested at all in the male form. Not a single bit. They're just being spoiled brat children (as usual) stomping their feet and nasally sneering "what about you! what about you!" They're just looking for something to whinge about and make demands of (as usual) that they never really have any interest in making use of. How may women in visual arts profess an adoration for the male form? Can you name a single female visual artist who has expressed her passion for that male form through her art in a manner that is sublime? I can't. I can easily fine male visual artists who do so. Michelangelo's David is a pretty classic example. Everything by Caravaggio stands out quite beautifully. Mapplethorpe's photos of men show a passion for the male form, a passion that ultimately killed him, that I have never in my life seen expressed in a single woman's work. Never. Women don't appreciate or even like the male form very much. They like what it gets them. You're just as likely to find men who express that adoration for the female form as you will the male. I'd start with Mona Lisa, but I find that painting to be rather reserved and dispassionate. Take a look at the work of John Singer Sargent. Picasso expressed adoration for the female form both in and out of his cubist works. Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, to Man Ray and Helmut Newton. On and on and on is a list of male artists with a visceral and obsessive adoration for the female form. And female artists? What do they like? Nearly unilaterally, they seem to prefer the female form as well. They are not driven by the same compulsion for the opposite sex that so many male artists seem to experience. They just aren't interested. What did Frida Khalo paint? Herself. Georgia O'Keefe? her vagina. Cindy Sherman? More women. Even pop photographers are more interested in the female form. Look at the work of Bunny Yeager. Women as artists are only concerned with their own form. The only interest that women have in the male form is it's utility and as fodder for humor. "tee hee! a penis! tee hee!". These women aren't requesting "cocks". They don't want "dicks". They aren't raging for "erections". They want "dongs". Fodder for jokes. Remember when Ensler came out with the Vagina Monologues? We all know it here. The play waxed poetic about the beauty and versimilitude of the female organ. What did men get that year? That year, the penis got "Puppetry of the Penis". A joke. A ridicule. A parlour trick. A fucking carnival act. So, when women clench their fists and bawl with quivering lower lip "Why dere is no dongz on da tee vee!?!?" I have to respond "Because you don't fucking want them. That's why."

Huh.

So why exactly are women pretending to be interested in seeing more penises on television? So they can point at them and laugh?

Women are such an enigma, especially if you just assume that nothing they ever say is true and that it’s all part of some weird plot to screw with men’s heads.

(H/t to r/againstmensrights for pointing me to geigerwasright’s lovely comment.)

What is good even arguing anymore? He seems to have ignored everyone that raised issues with the study itself, and seem stuck on trying to find some sort of GOTCHA.

Can’t even think of anything to say. Guess I’ll just grab some popcorn.

One thing MRAs miss is that allowing women into traditionally male roles can foster greater appreciation and sympathy. Personally, I know that my understanding of het male sexuality has been enhanced greatly by my gay friends, and my own experiences as The Viewer.

@Marie
Chewing sounds annoy me too.

For me, just seeing kissing is uncomfortable for me to look at most likely because my first kiss was forced on me by a guy I had no interest in. Not that I’m 100% sure that this event carried such a long lasting trauma, but before that I merely had no interest in kissing – or romance in general. The revulsion developed afterwards.

Katz, I have seen my parents naked just not random non-partnered men. I’d feel uncomfortable looking at sexualized images until I have moved out of my parents house (which I do next week). I am not sure they’d be particularly bothered but I can’t relax when I know they are in the house.

Women don’t appericate the male form? I think someone needs to take a trip to Y-Gallery (http://www.y-gallery.net/).

I, uh, may have just.signed up there. And posted something. That I just happened to have on my hard drive.

Aww thanks guys. (The whole event was a textbook case of “dude not taking a hint”. But I’ll save it for a more relevant topic 😛 )

I guess my original point was that I don’t like A, but I wouldn’t want to deny other people from seeing or enjoying said thing in various media. We just need moar representation !

I have to admit, the logic the dude used to, uh, discredit the lady’s willingness to ogle at penises on TV did make me laugh a little.

Movies that I’ve seen, some as a minor, which included full frontal male nudity:
28 days later
Rare Exports
Monty Python : Life of Brian

I know there are others but depending on the genre it may or may not have been expected… and my memory fails me at this point. I also noticed that these films tend to be not-american-made.

On the non movie front, there are also several games and tv shows and whatever that contained dicks. I may not have found them titillating, but I do know of plenty of people who do. (All though a lot have been in totally off-putting context… hopefully they aren’t turned on by those.)

Also,
HC yaoi fangirls.

I’m with Catfish (above) — I’d like to see more non-sexualized nudity, or sexual behavior presented in a more natural way. I’d like to see more diversity of bodies (both male and female) and more realism.

Oh, and it just did hit me that the three examples above are all non-sexual in context. And it makes sense why they’d be naked. (Brian also had FFFN in the same scene.)
Well, in case or Rare Exports it made about as much sense as the movie in general did.

Again, Good, the study said that women found the flaccid men walking less attractive than explicit sex scenes, not that they didn’t find the flaccid men attractive at all. But if we’re quoting stupid studies…

” The human male possesses the Italian designer faucet of penises. They’re pretty big, the biggest of any primate’s relative to body size. And they’re showy, too, right out there, front and center on our upright bodies (i.e., they don’t retract), as if they were meant to be seen as part of the décor. Why?

A study released today in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) offers an explanation: Women are attracted to penises, and the bigger the better.

“Penis size does affect attractiveness,” lead author Brian Mautz, a University of Ottawa post-doctoral researcher said in an NBCNews.com interview.

Past research has seemed to indicate that women, as a group, are drawn to larger male members. But those results have been disputed as sexist, or scientifically flawed, or both.

So Mautz and his team, working at the Australian National University, designed an experiment in hopes of settling the controversy. They created 49 unique, computer-generated, nude, life-sized male figures. Each figure varied in three traits: height, shoulder-hip ratio and flaccid penis size.

The researchers then displayed all the figures to 105 Australian women with an average age of 26. The women, who were not told which traits varied, were asked to rate the attractiveness of the figures as sexual partners on a scale of 1-7. The women were alone in the room and their responses were anonymous.

As past studies have shown, women prefer tall men with broad shoulders and narrow hips, like an Olympic swimmer. But when Mautz controlled for those variables, it turned out that penis size (overall length and girth) was about as important as stature.”

“Not only were the ratings higher, but the women also spent more time gazing at the generously endowed figures, a sign they preferred looking at them as opposed to figures with smaller penises.”

This study explicitly focused on the attractiveness of flaccid penises. Keep telling yourself that women don’t appreciate the male form because we don’t want pushy guys to send us pushy text messages. Whatever makes you feel better. ^_^

Deniseeliza, do you always believe that any stated group dynamic or common practice is a statement about every single individual?

No, they weren’t generalizing. They were saying that these individual women who claim to like penises are specifically lying, because they are women and women don’t like dick. This person is not generalizing. I will quote them again:

OK, my negroes. I’m going to lay this out for you. Because the women in this article and the writer of this article… they aren’t interested at all in the male form. Not a single bit.

good don’t logic:

So it appears that a fully naked well built man walking on a beach naked is the least arousing of all videos including apes having sex, whereas straight men are aroused by all videos including women. Thus, it does seem that women are not that interested in seeing penises.

How can you possibly draw this conclusion? You quote the relative arousal levels, but nowhere does it say what the actual numbers are. What if the difference between the video of the man and the video of the woman is 75% mild and 20% moderate arousal to 80% mild and 25% moderate? Did you actually track down what the results were? Doesn’t seem like it.

For all you know nearly all woman in the study showed some interest, just not as much interest as for the other videos. YOU DON’T KNOW. But you feel comfortable making pronouncements anyway.

Why would showing dicks be bad anyway? (Or any part of human anatomy, for that matter?)

If anyone dares pull out the “think of teh childreeenz!!one! card…
Context matters, ofc, but if we’re talking about just normal human beings doing normal human being stuff, which sometimes includes being butt naked, the children are not gonna be traumatized by it. What might skew their little views about nudity – or anything shown on tv – is how it’s framed and, more importantly, how their environment reacts.

If parents / other adults make a huge fuzz about a child seeing a boob or a dick on tv, it’s gonna leave a very different message from a scenario where others react to it as a non-biggie.
I saw a lot of things as a kid that would have made certain types of parents flip their shit. My parents let us watch pretty questionable material at times, but they knew what we were watching, observed our reactions and were there to explain things to us if necessary.

It was weird growing up that way, since me and my brother were pretty much the only ones who acted mature when it came to subjects like sex, drugs, or even violence, at least compared to our peers.

On Clementine Ford, I haven’t read the OP article but she did a wonderful takedown of the dirtbag Opposition Leader recently. “Doesn’t know his suppository from his elbow” was just the beginning. (He recently referred to “the suppository of knowledge.”)

PS:

The issue with the dude texting people his junk?

It’s non-consensually sexual.

Same reason the flasher is a problem.

He might have an outstanding body that under other circumstances we’d all be happy to see–it doesn’t matter.
