Apparently, to a lot of the regulars in the Men’s Rights subreddit — like the hundreds who upvoted a post of this picture — the notion that men should raise their sons to respect women as equals is nothing more than foul propaganda and MISANDRY of the highest order.
And seriously, those guys in the poster look like total White Knight Beta Manginas.
Some of the Men’s Rightsers were especially offended by the white ribbon at the bottom of the poster, which they saw as a vaguely sinister reminder of a World War I campaign to shame British men into enlisting in the army. Because suggesting to your sons that boys and girls should be treated equally is the same as being guilt-tripped into becoming cannon fodder:
Others used the poster as an opportunity to rail against … marriage. The top comment in the thread, as I write this post, is this one.
Elezeid expanded on this theme:
Caspian_Drifter responded to the eeeevil poster with a rhetorical question that unintentionally helped to underscore the whole point of the campaign in the first place:
Seriously, ladies, why do gals like to go on and on about “equality” so much when your ladybrains weren’t even smart enough to come up with the idea in the first place? I mean, really, you ungrateful gals, you have a man/men to thank for that.
If I remember correctly, it was T. Reginald Equality who came up with the idea, with some help from his brother Ned (who suggested that he name it after himself).
Avoid marriage at all costs? But who will be around to listen to my puns?
Oh my god. Really, “men’s rights activists?” This poster about positive relationships between men upsets you?
Men and boys, I should say. But like… Men inspiring boys! You should totally love that, if your concern is men’s happiness! It’s almost as if these MRAs have some other agenda in mind 9_9.
White ribbons are EXACTLY like white feathers! In that they’re both white.
I know what color I’m wearing to keep MRAs away from me now. I don’t care if it IS after Labor Day.
You would think they would love this idea, but then again, asking them to actually DO anything is totes misandry.
The only thing I find heartening about these guys is that they encourage each other to avoid marriage. Good.
Empowering your son to seek healthy relationships is a bad thing?
More hypoagency from the MRM. Tune in next week. We’ll be pissing into the wind.
@LBT
I lol’ed XD. I wonder if pink would work as well? I don’t like many white clothes…
David Futrelle,
Yet again, it looks like “Men’s Rights Activists” don’t really care much about equality. Strange for a “civil rights movement”
David Futrelle
Maybe you could add a hypocrisy category to your site and give this story a hypocrisy tag. These “Men’s Rights Redditors” sure are hypocrites
OMG Man Boobz got something right. This poster is exactly the kind of campaign that the MHRM should be fighting FOR. It is positive masculinity, positive male relations. It is not insulting shaming or belittling. You are a man, You are good, and You can make a difference is a perfect message for men today.
Sadly you also got it very very wrong. None of the comments you highlighted have anything to do with the message on the poster. You agree that the white feather campaign was misandry and harmful. Connecting “White ribbon” and “White Feather” isn’t a huge leap. The other comments where, marriage is not equality, don’t engage in unequal behaviors. How does this go against anything you belive in? Men and women should be equal, don’t do things that reinforce inequality.
Oh, I do have a hypocrisy tag. I just went with “irony alert” this time.
Also:
NOTE TO MRA TROLL WHO KEEPS TRYING TO COMMENT HERE:
If the fake email you’re using for your comments contains the word “cunty,” I won’t be letting your comments through. Hope this helps!
“None of the comments you highlighted have anything to do with the message on the poster.”
And that’s David’s fault? Maybe he is including those comments in order to illustrate how the MRM can take something that should be seen as a positive image of men, and then piss all over it with their paranoia and misogyny, because that is what they do ALL THE TIME.
@GNL
“Connecting ‘White ribbon’ and ‘White Feather’ isn’t a huge leap.”
Yes, yes it is. They aren’t even comparable.
White shoes after Labor Day is MISANDRY!
Wait, if connecting white feathers and white ribbon is obvious, does that work with everything else? WHITE ***** is bad? White dresses? White piece of paper? White roses? White … people? Shit.
@rabbitwink
And brides (evil misandric brides) wear white to weddings! Coincidence? I THINK NOT!
@Yellaine
I don’t think the mras thought that one through XD
What else is white? THE WHITE ALBUM. Which contains the song “Helter-skelter”, which Charles Manson said instructed him to start the Race War by killing Sharon Tate. Why does this poster campaign support murder cults?
Also, it is obvious that a man came up with the seminal idea of liberty/equality because it has the word ‘seminal’ right there. Using this same principle, we can also tell that men invented the penal system.
I bought some white roses, yesterday. I’m reading about the War of the Roses, and the white rose represented the side of York. Those Yorkists were all manginas, ya know.
I like eating eggs sometimes, but I think I need to stop eating them forever. Eating eggs makes me complicit in the white feather campaign, which doesn’t exist anymore BUT STILL MISANDRY IS FAR-REACHING
What do you think the Venn diagram of “people in that thread outraged about that poster” and “people in that thread outraged at Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson for seeing racism everywhere” would look like? Perfect circle?
Yep, that’s exactly the message of the poster. @_@
These are extremely self-centered and defensive people. In other news, water is wet and kittens are cute.
Know what else is white? Clouds. Well, some clouds are grey. But lots of them are white. Even as I write this, misandric clouds are floating above my head….
OMG, I see a
contrailchemtrail. Chemtrails are white. AND THEY LOOK LIKE FEATHERS.THINK ABOUT IT, PEOPLE.
Dave,there is no way for you to be a feminist: http://postimg.org/image/7qh9k0amz/
Tell Tatiana Audi Badra you’re a feminist. You have to quit lying to the women here.
