Long Weekend Open Thread

longweekendlc2

Like a lot of people in the US of A, I am taking a long weekend. Posting may be a little light for a bit. So here’s an open thread for everyone else taking a long weekend. Or not. Use this thread for anything that’s not personal. Like misogyny, politics, kitties, you know the drill. (Though kitties are welcome in all threads, of course.)

I am hoping my long weekend turns out a bit better than that of the people in the Australian movie of that name from 1978, which I keep meaning to see. Apparently their little beach vacation doesn’t go so well, and they are attacked by … nature? At one point, I believe, they face off against an enraged dugong. (No, really.) The movie was recently remade, but apparently the remake wasn’t as good.

Stay tuned for more reviews of movies I haven’t seen and that I’m just giving vague impressions of based on things I’ve heard somewhere.

This is probably a “Duh, did that long ago” question, but have you googled K cup? I just had a go and it came up with a good many results.

@ dustydeste

Behold, the promised land!

(All I did was run a search for anything they have available in a 36K.)

Unimaginative – Yeah, I sometimes feel like I should just stop paying attention to US news, because eventually my mind will break, but then I remember it’s the only country I have the right to vote in at the moment and I should probably do what I can, even as a nonresident citizen. If I end up relinquishing my US citizenship down the line in lieu of Canadian and EU citizenship, I may just give up paying any attention to US news, though. For my own sanity. Because christ on a cracker, that shit is messed up.

(Who am I kidding, I’m too addicted to watching trainwrecks to ever stop.)

This one is particularly pretty, and has both of your potential sizes in stock right now.

CassandraSays – OoooOOOoooOOhhh I hadn’t seen these ones before!

THB I usually get frustrated really quickly when shopping online, because the things I find are either miscategorized as my size and only really go up to a DD or whatever, or what I want is out of stock. Basically I am just crap at finding bras on the internet, so always happy for site suggestions!

Kittehs – Yeah, I’ve done the Google, I just have a hard time coming up with what I’m actually looking for, usually. Also “K cup” results in coffee stuff where I am, iunno. But yeah, searching under my specific measurements tends to result in me banging my fists against the keyboard. I am awful at having patience while shopping… or attempting to shop, I guess, lol.

Bravissimo’s where I bought my Marlies Dekker and Hot Milk bras!

dustydeste, yeah, I wouldn’t want to buy a bra without trying it on, or any other clothing, for preference. I’m always looking for clothing info about acutal physical shops in Melbourne and coming up frustrated.

These are good sources too.

I’ve bought from both of the first two and been happy with them. They have great sales sometimes! Belle Lingerie is on eBay too, if you find their interface easier to deal with.

Kittehs, yeah, I am always a little iffy on buying online, though luckily since moving to Vancouver, a friend introduced me to an actual physical shop here that carries my size, so hallelujah on that! I highly recommend Change Lingerie to anyone near any of their shops… which are mostly in Canada and Europe, it seems.

Also, because most sites don’t tell you stuff like this, in terms of brands I feel like Freya is best for people who carry most of their breast tissue very front and center, whereas Curvy Kate is better for people whose boobs are wider in circumference, with more tissue at the sides.

Thanks you two, I am now going to spend an entirely-pleasant evening looking at bras with my husband, haha. Though he tends to gripe about the rampant photoshopping of the models (but this is how I know I got a good one).

The $200 bra I didn’t buy was very pretty. I don’t remember the brand name, but it was made in Germany by a firm that specializes in large sized. Yeah, the 38M was a bit too small. They only go up to N. Sigh.

RE: Argenti

Ooh, that bivy bag looks very nice, the one you saw with good reviews. And yeah, I’m willing to sacrifice a pound or two if I can guarantee non-wetness. Also, it looks big enough I could possibly stash my pack in it! (Seriously, it looks big enough to fit Shaquille O’Neal.)

RE: hrovitnir

I remember the search engine weirdness when I was in NZ! I’d never realized before that different countries had such a big thing. Thanks for looking for me.

RE: anonboobzer who gave me kind anondonation

THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I am so lucky to know such nice people.

“What change do you want and what will you concede in order to achieve it” …

I tried to get a grip on how to say how wrong that was, and failed.

That commenter ruled.

Yes she did. She also fisked his, “I wasn’t talking about you with the Fallujah, and PTSD,” references. Which was good, because I knew he was gaslighting, and dodging, but having someone else say it was bloody obvious he meant to be jabbing me was a big boost, when I was starting to get emotionally exhausted.

Mr. “You Go Girl” is damn near every troll we get.

That was Jeremy, and he looks familiar. Boy named Pseu was also a rehash of our sort of trolls.

I’d love it if Ian W. Blanton, or legionseagle were to comment here. I need to see about sending her a thank you, for both the “is this no enough for you” and the fisksing.

Do a mass invite on a less trolled thread?

LBT — yeah I figure if the reviews are saying a 6′ tall guy can fit in it, it’d be down right spacious for you!

…and I have another beetle in here. Someone remind me tomorrow to deal with the plant window. I’m avoiding if because I have to move half+ the plants, probably including the cactus…bed? They’re in like an 18″ pot, doesn’t feel right calling it a pot.

legioneagle would have a host of likes or fans if there were such buttons on popehat. 🙂

Just added you to my friends list on Ravelry, pecunium.

RE: Argenti

I used to dislike having a smallish vessel. Now I have discovered that being economy-sized has its benefits. I can fit in ANYTHING.

CassandraSays

I prefer fun-sized. Like a tiny but delicious chocolate bar, you know? Plus I know from experience that multiple fun sized people can fit in one (sleeping) bag.

Someone explain something to me.

Today there was an argument on a page I frequent, regarding Islam. Something interesting happened.

Of course, there was the mandatory “brown-people” bashing that goes on whenever certain idiots are involved, but it developed into an interesting discussion. At one point I mentioned that, should I be put into a position where I am forced to convert to any faith, for personal reasons I would choose Islam.

This is the truth. There are many reasons for this, not only because I want to work in the Middle East in future, have traveled there before and have family and friends there who are active in their local Muslim communities – but for other reasons too. Not that I mentioned this information in the discussion. I made the point to illustrate that faith is something quite personal and should depend on an individual as to whether or not they follow it, and it might surprise the average person if they researched different faiths as to what would be more appealing or suited to them given they were in a position like I described. Religions can have bad and good qualities, though I am one to advocate that – in general – bad people make religion into a bad thing. I find the way it can bring together communities and the way some people can find peace and guidance in it very beautiful and I admire the charitable work that many religious institutions engage in when it isn’t also used for the purpose of aggressive conversion and much of what many religions preach at their core is good.

So. Tell me why a person who normally seems reasonable in these discussions then has to question that choice? Needs to know my personal reasons and becomes overly invested in this totally hypothetical and not-likely-to-eventuate situation? Why someone who claims to support female autonomy and individual choice (reasons he cited for disliking Islam), then has to question me about it despite the fact that I said I did not want to go into further detail? Has to present “evidence” of which I am already aware, as someone who has family in the Islamic faith and has traveled fairly extensively in Islamic countries and takes a general interest in religion and spirituality studies regardless, as if it will change my hypothetical decision? Someone who apparently does believe extremist actions are individual or cultural problems, but still seems to think that Islam would be a terrible life choice for me to make?

To me it seemed very… bizarre, and was not something I expected from this person. Am I missing something?

@Cassandra – for a moment there I thought I was back on the penis-size thread. 😀

I’m “fun sized” per an ex. Like a fun sized candy bar.

And yes, “I can squeeze in there!” is like a super power sometimes!

RE: CassandraSays and Kittehserf

My husband had some choice words to say about the comparison. (It’s not that I’m so small; it’s just that he’s so damn BIG.)

RE: Lulabelle

Some people talk big about being okay with choice, but won’t walk it. It sounds like he’s a surprise asshole with ideas about Islam that you questioned and he can’t deal with. He can’t be wrong, so you must be.

He sounds like a ponce.
