You guys are so sweet. I’m doing okay, trying to keep busy (laundry, f’ing around on the internet). My cats have been being extra goofy, which I am pretending is them trying to cheer me up.

Hi everyone.
My high school reunion is happening tonight in a pretty close location to me and I am actively not there. I am thinking about how crummy and out of place high school often made me feel and how much more strongly I would be reminded of that if I were at said reunion.
Sorry for the randomness. Just felt the need to dump this somewhere.
Aw, it’s okay to skip, grumpycatisagirl. I admit, I’ve been tempted to go to my reunion… but purely just to be like, “Hey, remember me? I used to have tits and long hair! :D”

LOL, LBT. I would probably be tempted too if that were the case for me but I happen to look pretty much exactly the same as I did back then (tits and long hair and all . . .)
I guess mostly what I’m dreading is running into someone from high school (which I sometimes do, because I still live near my high school) and having to explain why I didn’t go to the reunion. I’m not out of town. I just don’t feel like it.
Oh well, this too shall pass!

Hah. I didn’t get invited to my 10 year reunion, I only heard about it after the fact (still living in the same town, still listed in the phonebook). Wouldn’t have gone anyway, but still…

This happens to be my 20th, by the way. I went to my 10th and it was weird, which was admittedly a major factor is deciding not to go to this one. I did agonize about the decision until pretty much the last minute.
I personally do not see any reason why anyone would want to hang out with their high school classmates 20 years later (unless they’d kept up the friendships in the meantime).

Truth be told, I’ve been pretty successful at blocking most of my memories of high school, and the only people I’d want to see, I already do on a regular basis. So yeah. No fun. Why hang out with people whose company you don’t enjoy?
Just because you weren’t out of town doesn’t mean you can’t say you were. Or, even more believably — “sorry, I was just too busy (avoiding you)”

They’ve been posting all those “Best Eyes,” “Most Likely To Succeed,” “Most Fun to Be Around” photos on the FB page and I’ve been afraid they’re going to post “Most Shy” because that was me. Fortunately they have seemed to refrained from posting that so far. After I was voted Most Shy, I told the yearbook advisors I thought they should not do have that. I do not think they did ever again.

Ha ha.
Also=”I thought they should not have that.” I have an extra verb in there; please disregard the do.
My 20th happened in my city, and I did not have a traumatizing high school experience. But I just realized I am still in touch with everyone from high school that I actually care to be in touch with, and most of them couldn’t make it so I skipped.
I was voted “Most Likely to become a Repo Wife” which was mostly because I loved the movie Repo Man.
The idea of having a “Most Shy” award seems odd and possibly cruel.

I actually do enjoy running randomly into (most) of my high school classmates individually from time to time. I just don’t think I could take them all at once.
And yeah, the “most shy” stuff is bull shit. I’m glad there’s more stuff out there about understanding introverts now. ‘Cause it sure would have been useful in rebutting that stupid “most shy” award.

Anyway, I would like to say you have all succeeded in making me officially feel better. I see that I chose the right company for this Saturday night after all. Cheers. Next round’s on me. 🙂
You could use Mrs Grantly’s line from the Barchester Chronicles, which we’re watching: “We shall have to arrange a prior engagement as quickly as possible.” That, or Oscar Wilde’s immortal “I must decline your invitation due to a subsequent engagement.”
High school reunions don’t seem to be as much of a thing out here, as far as I know, but even if my school hadn’t closed long since (yay!) nothing except huge tubs of cash, paid upfront, would tempt me into the same room as a bunch of people I remember as obnoxious morons. I loathed high school.

I guess the fact this is also the week of my birthday isn’t helping the nagging what-have-I-to-show-for-my-life feeling that’s visiting, either.
I’m sorry Cloudiah. 🙁
Cloudiah, here is some more kitty cuddling: http://i.imgur.com/6bjeTNc.jpg
Speaking of the forum, I’ve made a writeathon post there, so I can hopefully spam y’all less about it. http://manboobz.forummotion.com/t1160-lb-s-writeathon-post#30561
Cloudiah, I missed when you posted this originally. Fuck cancer.

Hi grumpycatisagirl,
Hugs? Only if they’re wanted.
~ cloudiah
Thank you, cloudiah. I’ll take the hugs. And, I will get over feeling crummy over something so silly as a high school reunion.
grumpycatisagirl — seeing how I was fucking thrilled we apparently didn’t have a ten year reunion, I don’t think it’s silly at all. *more hugs*

Why the fuck would they have a “most shy” award? Isn’t that guaranteed to embarrass the recipients?
