Women Laughing Alone At Tom Martin (and his video project about “gold-digging women”)

Gold digger, 1933 model
Gold digger, 1933 model

This won’t be news to a lot of you — I’m a little late getting to it — but our old pal Tom Martin, the repulsive British MRA celebrity, is actually going ahead with the somewhat baffling video “women and comedy” project he was babbling about in the comments here many months ago, when he was still allowed to comment here. Well, “actually going ahead with it” this August if he can get anyone else to agree to work for him for free minimum wage.

The documentary project is called “Laughing with Women” and, Martin explains, it will “investigat[e] if gold-digging impairs women’s joke-making ability, and if, when women reject gold-digging in all its forms, they can become instantly funnier.”

In case that didn’t make sense to you — don’t worry, that’s a completely natural reaction — Tom explains his, er, “logic” a bit further in a jobs listing he’s posted in hopes of finding a crew, which has already gotten a good deal of ridicule over at PZ Myers’ and on at least one comedy website.

Why are women, on average, slightly less funny than men? Does gold-digging in particular impede women’s joke-making ability? When women publicly reject gold-digging, do they become as funny, or even funnier than men?

In his numerous visits to Man Boobz, Martin expounded at length on the topic of gold-digging women, generally referring to them by his preferred term, the shorter and blunter “whores.” Martin has previously estimated that roughly 97% of women fit this description, and has  suggested that female penguins are also whores. Frankly, once he gets going on the topic, it’s hard to shut him up, which is partly why he’s no longer welcome in the comments here.

In any case, this odd hypothesis will be tested, Martin says, with a “radical, and revealing street-based social experiment.”

Still puzzled? Mike Booth, the British video comedian behind SomeGreyBloke and Dan Cardamon, has managed to tease out a few more details from Martin (posting here as sexismBusters):

somegrey

Martin is confident that his proposed video will blow the lid off this whole “women and gold-digging and comedy, no really, they’re connected” thing:

If the radical, and revealing street-based social experiment at the centre of our documentary proves gold-digging does make women less funny (as pre-production research suggests) then our findings will make headlines around the world, our film’s two minute teaser trailer attached to all those news and blog articles (Update: this advert alone has already been blogged and tweeted about by outraged PC types).

The full documentary will be shot to a broadcast-quality standard and format, giving mainstream television companies worldwide the opportunity to purchase broadcasting rights (if they’re feeling brave enough) whilst we maintain a virtually guaranteed revenue stream from our already established hardcore of supporters and fans within the non PC gender equality field around the world, who, along with everyone else, will be able to enjoy Laughing with Women on newly launched pay-per-view channel, Vimeo on Demand (VoD) – where VoD itself takes a very modest 10% cut. The documentary has the potential to be translated into several languages – gold-digging a familiar if hidden story in every country, until now.

In other words, it sounds like some sort of video gold mine.

So I’d recommend that all gold-digging women out there try to get in on the ground floor of this Tom Martin dude.

Oh, and speaking of Dan Cardamon, here’s the faux MRA’s take on the project:

CORRECTION: This post originally stated that Martin wouldnt’ be paying his crew, but he says he will be paying them minimum wage, so I’ve corrected the relevant passage above.

EDITED TO ADD: Tom has shown up in the comments, and I’m letting his comments through (for now at least), so if you have any questions for him, feel free to head to the comments to address him directly.

RE: Tom Martin

Like smiling to show off great healthy teeth – what could be more natural than going topless to celebrate your great healthy physique?

Uhhhh huh. Because that would NEVER cause issues with future employers and such.

And I say this as someone who DID post pictures of his tits online for free. Specifically, for other people wanting examples of my surgeon’s work and reference photos for the bandaging and such afterward.

Let the record show that, if a photo of me smiling to show off my beautiful teeth were published in a magazine that was sold for money, I would expect to be paid for it.

Also, speaking of whores… it looks like my latest writeathon is sold out, once again! Thank you, all you lovely Boobzers who prompted, sponsored, and egged me on! This one was the biggest success yet! Thank you for making me a happy artistic hooker!

The teaser trailer is going to take a while, because it was a three camera shoot, for six and a half days, with a lot to review and edit, and because I don’t have any money left, so need to tempt an editor to do it for a deferred payment or points.

I didn’t tell you the method before, but will now for the first time… our female-fronted crew presented itself as a dating game show recruiting single women. Single female passers by were asked to select from a group of eligible bachelors, and from these selections, we were able to secretly calculate their gold-digging score, whilst simultaneously measuring their joke-making ability as they played the game. The hypothesis is that the more they gold-dig, the more their joke-making will fail or disappear.

There were several measures of gold-digging and several measures of joke-making.

I went in to the experiment thinking that gold-digging is something that most women do whilst simultaneously claiming not to (at least when a camera is on them) due to the taboo nature of gold-digging, but now my research indicates gold-digging is something women anonymously acknowledge is wrong, but that in public declarations, they will give the union answer, which is “keep the money and gifts coming boys”.

Feminism has so far failed to equip women with ready rhetoric to charismatically say no to men’s money and gifts.

One encouraging finding. Not one woman gave a victim-female excuse for gold-digging – (apart from one female member of the crew) where as a few years ago, I might have heard sob stories about pay gaps, glass ceilings, patriarchies or it being a man’s world.

The only rhetoric was on the female supremacist tip.

It’s all about women’s massive inhumanity to men – the overwhelming sexism women express about men, dwarfing the amount of sexism men express towards women.

– and the indifference of the general public and the media practitioners, towards the issue. A cognitive dissonance, refusing to acknowledge the existence or significance of every minute sexism towards men – and I’ve only just started scratching the surface.

This documentary is going to make The Every Day Sexism Project’s focus on sexism against WOMEN look like a race relations group looking at racism or classism towards Eton educated whites called Bertie.

We went to rich and poor areas, interviewing a multitude of races, and classes of women between the ages of 20 and 30 – and from an equality perspective, and a feminist perspective, it looks bad sisters.

“Argenti: That would be the “women are public property” aspect. Because his “definition” of whore is, “a woman got paid for something”.”

Apparently we’re both not at our best today? Sleep? Who needs sleep? *falls asleep on the thread*

On that note, is Martin making no sense or do I just need sleep?

@Argenti, if Tom Martin ever starts making sense, you have bigger problems than sleep deprivation

Don’t forget that women can be whores without getting paid. It’s something innate, in theirr nature. Otherwise they wouldn’t have to renounce it in all its forms, they could just stop doing it.

This is the kind of sense Tom makes.

My brain is broken now, and I need to go take a long walk and reboot it.

…and if they pick the one who looks like Johnny Depp, that means they love money, because he’s rich, right? And when they don’t pick the ones who look like Carrot Top or Donald Trump…

Um, there’s some research (actual research) that ties into these strange ideas of yours, Tom.

Hmmmm. Seems to make a mockery of Tom’s ideas.

But, then, what doesn’t?

… No way.

No way.

Tom actually went through with his documentary? Really? Holy crap! And the super secret method for measuring gold-digging and joke-telling is…

Having women select pictures as part of a fake dating game? Women found randomly on the street, not being told that they were taking part in a “scientific” study? (How did you get informed consent for this one, Tom?)

I’d love to see an actual formal write-up description experiment method and results, partly because I’m dumb-founded that Tom actually did anything, and mostly because I have absolute faith that any video on the matter will completely misrepresent both the whole thing.

Tom Martin fan (Tom Martin)

Thanks for the research link Howard.

Here’s my initial impression of what our documentary’s experiment most typically found. In general, the average woman gold-digs by telling men to spend money on her, but then, when asked how much of a gold-digger she is, she says zero. Also, when asked how much of an independent woman she is, she says 100%.

The Beyonce effect.

Somebody needs to write that woman better songs.

Oh geez, more non existent evidence.

Kirbywarp, approximately 92% of women signed release forms having been through the fake dating game show then being debriefed that it was actually an experiment to measure their gold-giving/independence levels versus joke-making ability.

The great value thing about making documentaries about women and gender discourse is that you do not generally need hidden cameras. Women will tell the world what they think of men, because when it comes to civility between the genders, women are still in the dark ages – and proud of it.

As some comedian or other said “Life’s not fair. You can’t drink and drive. You can’t punch women in the face.”

Because do you know what the best environment for assessing people’s senses of humor and gold-digging? A fake dating game.

Right when I think MRAs cannot get any MORE asinine, they pull some next level shit like this.

Fake dating game study of humor? That is underpants gnome level asinine.

Another little problem with Tommy’s *cough* research *cough* : he wouldn’t know a joke if he fell over one. Everyday humour or wit would never have a chance, least of all if they were coming from women. He had a humour bypass around the same time as he had a decent human being bypass.

Just… seriously. I’m assuming the comedian was just being a douche (there’s a reason that as children we associated being funny with being douchey), but really, who seriously takes the prohibition against drunk driving as, “Life isn’t fair?”

(Also, if you WERE joking, Tom Martin, why is it funny?)
