And so the MRAs have found yet another woman to hate.
Earlier this month, as many of you no doubt know, a Men’s Rights group sponsored a lecture at the University of Toronto. The event drew protesters, and the protesters drew MRAs with video cameras. One of the MRAs filmed a confrontation between a red-haired feminist activist and a number of MRAs who continually interrupted her as she tried to read a brief statement.
Her crime? She wasn’t exactly polite in responding to the interrupters. And so, after video of the confrontation was uploaded to YouTube, and linked to on the Men’s Rights subreddit and elsewhere, she became a virtual punching bag for the angry misogynists of the internet.
A Voice for Men, naturally, led the charge, running an article by Canadian MRA Dan Perrins labeling her “Little red frothing fornication mouth” and commenting on her breasts. The Amazing Atheist weighed in with a video I couldn’t bring myself to even watch.
Since being targeted by angry YouTube misogynists and MRAs, the red-haired activist has received death threats, rape threats and literally hundreds of other hateful and harassing messages. She’s also been “doxxed” — that is, she’s had her personal information plastered all over the internet, including on A Voice for Men’s forum. Ten days after being uploaded to YouTube, the video of her faceoff against the MRAs has garnered more than 300,000 views, and YouTubers are still leaving threats and insults and crude sexual comments.
This, apparently, is what “Men’s Human Rights Activism” consists of: the doxxing and harassment of individual women.
Several days ago, she contacted me to tell me about the harassment she’s endured. Here’s some of what she wrote:
I’m the red-head. I’m sure by now, you’re one of the 260,000 people who have seen the video of me … .
Because I had the audacity to tell a dude to stfu, an MRA no less, I have since been the target of not only just online misogyny (as if that’s a surprise) but cyber stalking, rape and death threats. They somehow found my facebook, they found my tumblr, they found a twitter acct that I don’t even use, they even found an old [dating site] profile of mine with outdated info …
I also got an anonymous message on tumblr that specifically said “[name deleted] would be disappointed”. [Name deleted] is my dog that died 1.5 years ago, I don’t talk about him on tumblr, nor fb, so they would have had to reaaaaalllly dig to find this info. …
In about 12-24hours, I got about400-500 new messages on my blog, most of them hate, which included rape and death threats, also people wishing death upon me or the typical troll “kill yourself” message. They made a meme of me.
I dunno how many haters I have, and I don’t know where they are. I can’t be sure at any given second, if I’m ever outside my house … if anyone is going to recognize me and try to hurt me.
With her permission, I am reposting screenshots she sent me documenting some of the harassment she’s endured. Even though her personal information has already been widely disseminated online, I don’t want to contribute to that, so I’ve whited out any information that might reveal her identity.
TRIGGER WARNING for what follows, for threatening language and crude sexual remarks.
Here’s a death threat she received from someone claiming to represent the “Islamic Brotherhood.”
Here are some sample comments from her Tumblr inbox. I’ve whited out comments and parts of comments that consist of her contact info, which being sent to her in an attempt to intimidate and frighten her by letting her know they “know where she lives.”
Here’s another threatening comment sent to her via Tumblr:
Here are some comments sent to her via her YouTube account. You’ll notice that the second comment comes from AVFM’s Dan Perrins, who is clearly relishing the attacks on her.
And another glimpse into her YouTube inbox:
Here’s a screenshot from a Men’s Rights forum revealing her personal information.
Meanwhile, over on YouTube, the hateful comments continue to pile up. Here are some of the nastiest ones I’ve collected. I am deliberately posting a lot of them in an attempt to convey something of the relentless nature of the attacks on teh red-haired activist — though I should note I’ve only gone through a small portion of the total comments there and this doesn’t even reflect all of the awful ones I found. These are not in any particular order. I threw in a few non-threatening ones that struck me as a tad ironic or otherwise revealing.
Again, this is only a small fraction of the abuse she’s gotten on YouTube.
This is what happens when MRAs and other misogynists target a woman online. The only thing that’s surprising here is the sheer amount of the hateful comments.
I’ve seen no serious attempts from any MRAs to rein in this sort of hatred. A Voice for Men has tried to distance itself in a superficial way from some of the harassment it has played a central role in unleashing, with an official announcement asking readers to refrain from posting the personal information of the red-haired activist in the comments. Meanwhile, in the AVFM forum, comments linking to her defunct dating profiles remain up.
This is what MRA “activism” looks like.
Coming tomorrow: A more detailed look at AVFM’s role in the harassment.
@Viscaria
1. I don’t intend to marry but when couples marry it’s men who are pushed to be the provider.
2. People can’t always prevent pregancys and abortion is the womans right, which I support. But most women still want kids.
3. I Never said anything about women and Manual Labour. And if you’re refering to his video, He means that men go into much life threatening jobs. Btw, I’ve been doing my own laundry, dishes, and cleaning the house for half my life.
So, cis men are at a disadvantage because they aren’t physically capable of suffering from post partum psychosis? What?
I’m assuming Sargon was referring to cases like Andrea Yates here.
Having never been through a pregnancy and labor, do I get to call myself oppressed too? Even though I’m a feeeemale, I can’t say I’ve ever experienced post partum psychosis. Or even post partum depression. Poor me!
Chris is a coward for thinking that what men endure somehow erases what women endure. They do not have the courage to actually face women’s problems as part of a larger social effort that would also include men’s problems as a parallel effort to feminism (which does not even get into the ways feminism actually helps men via the changes it seeks). So they try to replace expressions of women’s problems with expressions of men’s problems.
Chris thinks that stepping on other people and getting in the way of efforts to help other people is how you try to fix society. Fuck that. As a man I would politically abandon someone who’s idea of activism was trying to shout down the problems of other people. At some point they would just do the same to me. It’s why I don’t fear the people this site focuses on in the long run, their nature leads to social cannibalism due to their pathologically flawed character.
Women do have to work harder for less credit. Women publish in better journals in engineering but get cited less. Women professionals get questions about family, children, appearance and fashion that men would never get. Add the wage gap and it becomes pretty clear that there is a force in society that actively devalues women.
It was men, not women, that force men to go to war.
It’s men in riskier jobs that act to prevent women from getting involved and who make their lives miserable when they manage to get in.
A society that values women’s work less would give women fewer opportunities to work longer, for less pay.
A society that sells men a toxic violent, aggressive social role is what make men have longer prison sentences. Men are the ones predominantly killing and raping other people, including men. I would need to see why the fear soaked Chris thinks that women are just as violent as men (that’s as a group, of course there are always examples anyone could cherry pick).
A society that devalues professional women means that of course more men than women pay alimony. The laws are designed to work for men and women though. A good friend is a stay at home Dad and his wife is a doctor. He would be getting the alimony if something happened.
That same society that pressures women to be the primary hands-on caretakers of children would also result in women getting children more often. After all it would make sense for the children to do with the parent that already took care of them hands-on when shared custody was an issue.
If Chris thinks he has facts he can feel free to offer more than hyperbolic assertions. I do not simply accept opinion from people that seek to fix their problems by shouting down others who are expressing theirs. Those are very unwise people to trust as potential political allies and more often end up political enemies.
@WWTH
You’re giving him way too much credit. He meant abortion.
@otherwise
I like how he immediately followed this up by referring to Sargon Of Asshat.
@weirwoodtreehugger
If you believe thats the only reason mothers murder, then go ahead.
By feminists, right??? But seriously can you introduce me to all of your rich friends who can afford to live on a single income?
Were we not talking about child support paid by divorced, non-custodial men?
Only men work in mines
Oh wait
Only men go to war.
Or not.
Certainly there were no female slaves who had to do backbreaking work.
http://americainclass.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/AntiSlavery_Engraving.jpg
And I’m sure that poor, underprivileged Sargon would love to have the privileges of the workers at the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory
Or those lucky privileged feeemales who worked at the Bangladeshi factory that collapsed

And it’s not like women have ever died in childbirth or anything. No sir!
Ooh, Brony’s here!
http://replygif.net/i/1388.gif
You may not be good at logic, but you sure are good at intentionally missing the point, aren’t you?
I never said that’s the only reason mothers kill their kids. But post partum psychosis related murder is the only time when mothers get sympathy for killing their kids. Recognizing that post partum psychosis is a thing does mean that women are privileged though. Nor does it mean that there’s some sort of feminist cabal working to make child murder a-ok.
… That should say “Referencing,” not “Referring to.” His sub-sapient stupidity is contagious. D=
Speaking of male oppression, I read today that there’s going to be an all female Oceans 11 remake.
I’ll bet you anything the men throwing tantrums about that will fail to realize that the George Clooney/Brad Pitt/Matt Damon one is also a remake.
@Brony, Social Justice Cenobite
You are completely taking what I’m saying out of context.
Men’s issues are always ignored, and some people like myself want to point that out.
“Women publish better engineering articals that get cited”????? This is pure speculation.
The wage gap has been debunked since the 70s. Men go into higher fields, riskier jobs, negotiate more, and work 15% Longer Office Hours.
A study done by a Radicall Feminist
reveals that men are at least 42% of
spousal dv victims. She received death threats from her own organization.
So it’s true. YouTube commenters are able to survive outside their natural environment. They’re evolving. We should call this one Bub.
So we’ve concluded that Chris can’t read. Like, not at all. Can we ban him now?
@Scented Fucking Hard Chairs
Scraping at the bottom of the barrel now GRAMMAR TROLL? Slow Clap “BRAVO”
Now Chris is just Gish galloping. One talking point is knocked down and he just spouts five more.
And as usual, nothing to back up those claims. He doesn’t even give enough information to look up his claims ourselves if we were inclined. Which feminist is it that concluded 42% of DV victims were men? How did she determine it. My guess is Erin Pizzey and conflict tactics scale. But who knows?
@ pitshade
Hello Aunt Alicia.
Okay, this one has to be a bot. Boring.
Time for more cat photos?
@weirwoodtreehugger
Most people just hate remakes or reboots in general. The GBs trailer they picked out was mediocre. Forced jokes, Loud black streetwise woman stereotype, Preachy, Outdated CGI, etc….not very good.
Star Wars FA received positive reviews by males giving it a 8.5 out of 10. Mad Max FR received great reviews as well. Yet both star female heroes and are sequels. Alien, Tomb Raider, Hunger Games, etc….all female lead heroes that most men loved.
Sexism is just a small fration why people, males and females hated the GB reboot trailer.
People were saying an all female reboot of Ghostbusters was a terribad thing that ruined their childhoods way before the first trailer was released. Do you have anything to say that isn’t a complete and total PRATT?
Women never go to war. Neeeeeeeverrrrrrrr.

Read all about this non-existent woman!
I wish I could remember the name of the Soviet woman who was so pissed at the Nazis for killing her husband that she bought her own tank.
@Chris
1) That context is totally absent from how you came into this thread. You used your problems to try to suppress another person talking about their problems. You look like you want to women’s problems being addressed instead of men’s problems. Decent people form alliances with others to mutually work on one another’s problems.
2) People get to emphasize the things that affect them personally and when you try to bully them into replacing their problems with yours they will simply respond in kind. They will yell right back and frankly they get to. What you should do is to organize men in actually doing things to talk about men’s problems in parallel. Instead of burying women’s problems under yours in comments sections write articles about them that don’t attack other people for rationally working on things that affect them.
3) That context changes nothing about your shitty character on a basic human level. Why should anyone try to help you with your shit when the way you go about it is to attack them for working on their shit? That makes you a shitty political ally for men and women. I would want nothing to do with you if I knew you personally. That shit matters.
Actually if you check the link you will see that is an observation from data. Very different from speculation which would be apparent if you used your observational skills.
Feel free to cite the research that debunks the wage gap then. I just cited some above. I’m simply not taking the word of a human being that likes to harass others for working on things that concern them as if rights and social problems are zero sum games. If you want respect for your claims you have to be willing to offer some of your own instead of attacks and attempts at suppression.
1) Even if dv data is true that does not detract from the problems of women being talked about here so it’s not relevant.
2) The bit about death threats does not help you either because that also does not detract from the problems that women face. Also citation needed.
3) Again, if you want people to help you politically you have to be willing to help them too. If you try to simply drown out what they want to talk about you will deserve the flood that flows right back at you.
The photo I posted was of a Soviet soldier too. Roza Shanina. So much for dainty and submissive Eastern European and Russian women. Kind of funny that we’re talking about them while in the recent post we’re discussing the PUA fetishization of Eastern European women.
I’m not bothering with the troll, because it’s obvious that they aren’t going to listen, but I do have a question:
David, what happened to my first response to them? I did see it there a few days ago, and it disappeared! D:
