Happy Easter, or what remains of it, for those who celebrate it! (And happy Deep Discounts on Peeps Day to all who celebrate that tomorrow.)
There’s an interesting, er, theological discussion about the meaning of Easter over on The Spearhead. In a short post, WF Price argues that the uppity ladies of today could learn a thing or two from Mary Magdalene:
One of my favorite subtexts of the Easter story is the devotion of Mary Magdalene, who kept a vigil at her Lord’s tomb, and thereby became the first witness to the Resurrection.
I don’t see it as a specifically Christian message, but rather a universal one: the woman, regardless of her background or past, can attain holiness through selfless love and devotion. I hope some day that our own errant women can follow Mary Magdalene’s example.
A nonbeliever with the clever handle fakeemail isn’t convinced:
Once a whore always a whore.
I have no interest for a whore who “saw the light” aka a 30 year old cock-carouseler who is out of options. I want the young woman who was smart enough to never be a whore in the first place.
Evidently MRAs never take a holiday from being dicks.
Argenti Don’t worry, hate the name! Was the song I was listening to when I signed up.
You can change your screen name, y’know. I’m tempted to change mine to Kittehserf. Pithier, and the troof.
I know, maybe I’ll go with Sally Sparrow!
I rather like Argenti’s “canonball” which I define as the formal social gathering at which general laws, rules, principles, or criteria by which things are judged are developed by means of dancing.
cloudiah – love it! Much more fun than the Sherlock Holmes canon, or a member of the cathedral chapter. And if I never hear Pachelbel’s Canon again it’ll be too soon.
I hope when I die, my NYT obituary remembers me for my scalloped potatoes. Sigh.
I can sort of see where they were going with this obit — Brill’s accomplishments took place in a different sort of context, and that IS important — but to make it the lede? Oh, NYT, you make me sad.
Maybe I’ll adopt the rather more awesome canonball.
I think the MOST important thing is to get you an image for your gravatar. You can find instructions here:

(They work for kitty and non-kitty avatars.)
Cloudiah- God yes, I hope my loved ones remember me for my stew but if I invent something that revolutionises the Space program I hope that might not be a footnote. But I really hope my son remembers me as a woman who follows her husband around.
That Yvonne Brill debacle did lead me to this fantastic article:

If Dick is such a sexist slur, why is it an actual name for a man?
I don’t see c**t or pussy being used as an actual female name.
MRAs draw false equivalences a lot. There may be a similarity some of the time, but they are not equally harmful.
Also re that link I posted, it’s actually quite funny in how its written. So ridiculously over the top.
I hope that read as sarcasm. Thanks cloudiah, off I go to get an avatar. If I don’t get entirely distracted by Sue Perkins, which is a worry.
If you want a kitty gravatar, the site is here – http://neutralx0.net/tool/bnmk.html
It’s in Japanese but doesn’t matter, just click on each section and the choices for ears, eyes, markings and so on come up. (There is an English version but it doesn’t have the PAWS option.)
Just have to clear my cache. Thanks Kittehs’, I know I’ve been a bore!
No you haven’t! ::rolls eyes::
*Rolls eyes back!*
::rolls eyes again::
::plonk::
oh damn
Well that is the danger with major eye roll
Random – I went and took some pictures of the cow kitty. Sadly her grey splotches don’t look heart shaped in the daytime (we first met her at night), but she’s still adorable.

What a cute kitty! <3
@bagelsan
Yay for avatar 😀
Cow kitty! There’s one two doors down from me, his name is Moo. He’s a big sweetie, he’ll hang in our yard and demand pets.
It’s like the top bit of a heart without the pointy bit at the bottom.
