So Anita Sarkeesian, who apparently didn’t run off with all her Kickstarter money to found a Misandist Gynarchy in the wilds of Canada, has released the first video in her Tropes vs Women in Video Games project. (I’ve embedded it below.)
Naturally, this is causing great consternation in certain corners of the Internet (*cough* Reddit *cough cough* everywhere else that misogynistic nerds congregate *cough*). In the Man Boobz forum, Katz has started a contest to see who can find “the whiniest, brattiest, most entitled response” to Sarkeesian’s video on the Internet. So far Katz and Myoo have found a couple classic comments from irate Sarkeeianaphobes:
[H]ow does one go about stating that genders and gender roles are social constructs? I mean is evolution nothing to her? Does the patriarchy make male peacocks dress provocatively?
Yes. Yes it does.
And:
I’m gradually losing respect for the opposite sex. I’ve unfollowed people on tumblr who talk about how great she is, because it actually causes bile to rise in to my throat.
Yeah, that’s a totally reasonable response to a woman making a video about video games.
So anyway, I’m thinking we should bring the contest over here.
See what you can find! Consider it a sort of scavenger hunt.
Here’s my contribution, from the Men’s Rights subreddit, complaining that Damsels in Distress are the truly privileged ones:
Amazingly, this acutally got called out on r/mr as being pretty damn stupid.
Also, I have another question, to add to the stack of other questions I’ve been asking lately: Just why do you think so many guys get so angry when girls and women invade what they consider a male sphere, like gaming? (Also, why do they consider gaming to belong to boys and men?)
Oh, and here’s the video that’s causing all this hubbub:
I may scrap the plan to get the boots with the weird taupe trim (since I already have too many high heeled platform boots) and get the Thai silk flats instead. I don’t actually own any flats that aren’t either a sandal or a sneaker.
Size 4 feet (well 3.5 but extra wide sooo …) and having small feet means heels put your feet at an excrutiating angle so I tend more towards flats.
I bought a pair of these, this winter. Furry lined and sooooo comfortable. And although in a sale, still painfully expensive but I’m subscribing to the Samuel Vimes theory of boots. Actuallly, I lie, I fell in love with them.

Of course, I’m sulking because you had a “shoes and men we lust after” thread while my wi-fi was down. Cannot believe I’m late to this thread!
Those silk flats are lovely.The colour is incredible.
@ melody
huh. I didn’t know that. Is it like when children accidently stumble across it? feel free to ignore this, btw, since I’m pretty sure there were links to things,I’m just thinking out loud.
To put my friend’s tiny feet into context for Brits, a British 5 is an American 7 (or 8, depending), so an American 4 is a British 2 or possibly even smaller.
Tries again
Ok, sorry to doublepost – first one came up as an error initially. *scowls at internet*
I’m rather fond is Jason Momoa, which is odd because big muscly guys aren’t usually my cup of tea. He’s awfully pretty, though.
” Research has also shown that children in Iceland are first exposed to pornography at the average age of 11. In some instances, children have been dramatically affected by it, and symptoms include social isolation and anxiety. There have also been reported cases of teenage boys re-enacting pornographic sexual acts on younger children. Finally, violent pornography is influencing teenagers’ first sexual experiences.””

I am so conflicted. I have a thread and two of my regulars are fighting and they want me to sides. I don’t think either is wrong in their thinking, but if I say that I think both parties will be offended. Ah…well.
Oh he was the Khal Drogo guy, right? Yeah, a little to muscly for me, but you’re right that he is pretty.
@cloudiah
I love the penguin boots. They remind me a little of Zoo Shoes, which I had when I was small. Google has failed me on a picture (and crashed my browser) so I can only describe them. They were kids’ slip-on shoes that had a big animal head on the front that velcroed the shoe closed. I had a koala pair and maybe lions? I wish they made them for grown-ups. I would totally wear them today.
The thing that gets me about pornography is that I know a lot of the people working in porn are exploited, so that is always kind of in the back of my mind. It’s my union background. I want to know that they’re being paid a living wage, and getting health benefits and a retirement plan.
@melody
thanks for posting the quote.
re: hot guys. I feel weird, everyone else thinks they’re too muscly. I tend to find big mucles on girls attractive. *shrugs*
I still have a thing for James Morrison as TC McQueen in Space Above & Beyond. Sigh.
@Cassandra: You are history’s greatest monster.
@Cloudiah: PENGUINBOOTSOMGZMUSTHAVE
@Some Gal: The RocketDog ones? I find them pretty comfortable, but if you have issues with pain you might find them a bit restrictive.
@Marie: Hope you find some soon!
…did I miss anyone?
Yep, Khal Drogo. He’s even prettier out of costume, though.

@thenatfantastic
Yeah, the Rocket Dog ones. I figured they probably would be, but was hoping somehow they would be extra-super-comfy despite how they look. Oh well, it is still fun to look. 🙂
Yeah, sorry 🙁 The soles are pretty squidgy but the toes and upper are quite tight.
The 6 to 8 inch heels are weird, but they have been mainstreamed in California (or at least where I live.) I feel downright sadistic trying not to laugh while watching an under 5-feet tall woman walk in 6-inch heels.
I always liked the combat boots with skirt look. To my old eyes, fashionable combat boots look odd (not bad, just odd.) Your grandmothers wore actual combat boots as a punk fashion and they walked 10 miles in the snow to watch their fave punk band. 😉
I cannot believe the number of people with foot pain here. I have lived with chronic foot pain for over three decades and never met anyone else with those symptoms. My docs have concluded that I have a wonky nervous system and have been giving me happy pills for over 20 years (currently: cymbalta and bupropion)
Yum.
Come for the shoe shopping advice, stay for the tips on which actors are prettiest! Or the other way around. Whatever, as long as it’s not another lengthy grudge wank.
I love a really feminine dress and combat boots. So much fun.
Hope this link works. Another weird shoe: a pump that grows into a boot?
