Man Boobz Contest: Find the Whiniest, Most Entitled Response to Anita Sarkeesian

From "Damsel in Distress: Part 1 - Tropes vs Women in Video Games."
From “Damsel in Distress: Part 1 – Tropes vs Women in Video Games.”

So Anita Sarkeesian, who apparently didn’t run off with all her Kickstarter money to found a Misandist Gynarchy in the wilds of Canada, has  released the first video in her Tropes vs Women in Video Games project. (I’ve embedded it below.)

Naturally, this is causing great consternation in certain corners of the Internet (*cough* Reddit *cough cough* everywhere else that misogynistic nerds congregate *cough*). In the Man Boobz forum, Katz has started a contest to see who can find “the whiniest, brattiest, most entitled response” to Sarkeesian’s video on the Internet. So far Katz and Myoo have found a couple classic comments from irate Sarkeeianaphobes:

[H]ow does one go about stating that genders and gender roles are social constructs? I mean is evolution nothing to her? Does the patriarchy make male peacocks dress provocatively?

Yes. Yes it does.

And:

I’m gradually losing respect for the opposite sex. I’ve unfollowed people on tumblr who talk about how great she is, because it actually causes bile to rise in to my throat.

Yeah, that’s a totally reasonable response to a woman making a video about video games.

So anyway, I’m thinking we should bring the contest over here.

See what you can find! Consider it a sort of scavenger hunt.

Here’s my contribution, from the Men’s Rights subreddit, complaining that Damsels in Distress are the truly privileged ones:

Amazingly, this acutally got called out on r/mr as being pretty damn stupid.

Also, I have another question, to add to the stack of other questions I’ve been asking lately: Just why do you think so many guys get so angry when girls and women invade what they consider a male sphere, like gaming? (Also, why do they consider gaming to belong to boys and men?)

Oh, and here’s the video that’s causing all this hubbub:

I actually don’t have ankle problems. I think. The only place they’ve hurt is in heels. Though I do need new boots anyway, since my old ones are falling apart, which isn’t surprising, since I’ve had them since I was 14. I loved those boots though.

@hellkell

good luck with your shoe search. I feel like the weird person who actually does like bows on shoes, though, now 🙂 I also saw this cute pair I would have loved if they were flats, but they were heels. They were black with lots of sparklies. Sparklies!!!!!

um, anyhow….

If only you could swap feet with my friend – she wants the sexy, edgy, punk shoes and hates the bows, but that’s mostly what comes in her size, bows and sparkles.

I’m not really on the shoe hunt at the mo. But I do need to replace my Reef flip-flops–I wear them constantly and they blow out every year, if you need a flip-flop, these have crazy arch support–and I need to find sheepskin insoles.

Zappos, BRB.

@hellkell

those boots sound wonderful.

@Do Re

Telling a woman to chill out in the exact same circumstances you would tell a man to chill out =/= misogynist. Calling a woman hostile in the exact same circumstances you would call a man hostile =/= misogynist.

I’m kind of suspicious, as I haven’t seen you saying that to any men here, but whatever, maybe you’re just an ass to everyone.

Do Re, telling women that they’re being over emotional when they react to sexism is a strategy that lots of misogynists use.

Also, hi, I’m new here. Marie’s sister, which is why the IP address will probably look familiar. Manboobz: fun for the whole family.

I’m not sure that “I have no manners and no social skills” is a huge improvement over “I’m really sexist and condescending”.

That would work 😀 Sadly, I’m pretty sure small feet wouldn’t work on my body.

@hellkell

whoops. Also, you actually like flip flops? I am amazed. Maybe I’ve only ever gotten the cheap one dollar kind. Actually that is the only kind I’ve gotten, but I’m assuming other are better.

So telling someone to “chill out because I’m not attacking them” = no manners and social skills? Really? REALLY?

Ah, the all caps of shouty-ness. Always a great way to look calm and reasonable.

Also, canvas wedges found! I love heels, but I’m side-eyeing this new thing where every single pair of shoes needs to have at least a 5 inch heel.

It’s the italics without italics version of caps.

I hate that too. I want to be able to walk in my shoes, kthxbye.

I mean, I know some people like heels, but they can stand more options for us non heel people, right? we have money? well, I don’t, but lots of people who don’t like heels do…

I’m debating whether to bother engaging in Do Re. I mean, it’s like, people call him out on one thing and he starts yelling *yawn*

If I did this right, italics is text without the periods.

I clearly didn’t do that last part right though….okay

text but with brackets instead of [ ] these

I love heels, but a. options are nice and b. why not heels of varying heights? Why does every shoe have to have 3 inches of platform and another 5 inches of heel? I’m quite happy with my height, no particular interest in being super tall, and even people who like heels need to be able to run in their shoes occasionally.

(I vote for ignore until he goes away, unless an opportunity for mockery that’s too good to resist presents itself.)

My least favorite type of new shoe, though, is the heel without a heel. WTF is that about? Example.

Why?

Marie
Marie

yeah, varying heights would be nice too. I have a pair that’s only two inches high, but I got them a long time ago, and I’m wondering if the always super high heels thing is new.

Those heels w/o heels…they are super ugly, imo. And probably hard to walk in.

I am hostile and judgmental towards the heel without the heel! Seriously, how sore would your ankles and calves get?

(Thanks for looking out for me before Cassandra.)

Seriously, why does this exist? Is it like a pony shoe for people who aren’t kinky enough to buy the real thing? Looks like a hoof to me.

No need, I’ll leave, the only thing this place has done is confirm the behaviours the MRA ascribes to women. Don’t worry, I would never tar all women with the brush you provide, but obviously trying to change my ways and all it’s best not to interact with women that perfectly epitomise everything the MRA says about women. If I don’t give you special privileges I’m a misogynist, that’s ridiculous. I just hope less women share this view than the MRA would have you believe.
