So Anita Sarkeesian, who apparently didn’t run off with all her Kickstarter money to found a Misandist Gynarchy in the wilds of Canada, has released the first video in her Tropes vs Women in Video Games project. (I’ve embedded it below.)
Naturally, this is causing great consternation in certain corners of the Internet (*cough* Reddit *cough cough* everywhere else that misogynistic nerds congregate *cough*). In the Man Boobz forum, Katz has started a contest to see who can find “the whiniest, brattiest, most entitled response” to Sarkeesian’s video on the Internet. So far Katz and Myoo have found a couple classic comments from irate Sarkeeianaphobes:
[H]ow does one go about stating that genders and gender roles are social constructs? I mean is evolution nothing to her? Does the patriarchy make male peacocks dress provocatively?
Yes. Yes it does.
And:
I’m gradually losing respect for the opposite sex. I’ve unfollowed people on tumblr who talk about how great she is, because it actually causes bile to rise in to my throat.
Yeah, that’s a totally reasonable response to a woman making a video about video games.
So anyway, I’m thinking we should bring the contest over here.
See what you can find! Consider it a sort of scavenger hunt.
Here’s my contribution, from the Men’s Rights subreddit, complaining that Damsels in Distress are the truly privileged ones:
Amazingly, this acutally got called out on r/mr as being pretty damn stupid.
Also, I have another question, to add to the stack of other questions I’ve been asking lately: Just why do you think so many guys get so angry when girls and women invade what they consider a male sphere, like gaming? (Also, why do they consider gaming to belong to boys and men?)
Oh, and here’s the video that’s causing all this hubbub:
I like the shape of them, but I’m angrily judging the taupe.
katz, I think he’s serious. I also think if we can’t *tell*, then his satire,(*if* it’s satire) has failed and he deserves to be nominated anyway.

CassandraSays, as long as we’re discussing hot dudes, Keith Hamilton Cobb.
I’m contemplating whether or not the taupe will bother me if it’s covered by the hem of my pants in a very man-hating sort of way. And also looking for some canvas wedges, with great hostility.
@argenti artheri
So he was a creeper. *sigh*
I assumed you already meant the teenager part as the creepy part, I just thought I’d clarify what I meant because I’m still really new here. 🙂
@cassandrasays
O_O gaaa. I feel so glad I haven’t run into any men like that in non internet, though probably because I stay home a lot, and usually only go out with friends or family. but….gah people suck /rant
sadly, the only man I lust over is Sharma Suraj, but it he’s so cute lesbians* like him, he must be so cute straight guys like him. Sadly, I can’t find any pics that do him just on google.
*gosh, I feel like a walking of the trope have I mentioned I’m homosexual today. Hopefully I’m not annoying you guys, but feel free to tell me if I am.
@Do Re
I’m sorry for nitpicking this, and I know you’re new here and (hopefully) trying to change, but would you mind cutting down calling women females. It sounds so clinical, and whenever people call men men or guys or lads or whatever instead of males but women females it always strikes me as kind of sexist and othering.
Do Re: after reading over everything you wrote, my first thought is you are not engaging in good faith. I don’t know for sure because I have not seen you here before, but your overall tone is difficult to read. On top of that, you appeared to get pissed off when others pointed out things you said which could be problematic and told a regular to “chill out”. Now your shtick is to claim “well I guess ALL men are treated hostil here and all I was doing was trying to explain something rationally”. We’ve all seen this done before. I think if you you are here honestly you should read over what you wrote and try to see how it could be a problem and listen to what other people are saying.
Behold the fruits of my misandrist search for a way to make men who just want to learn how to be nice to women, honest, totally miserable. Is it a ballet flat or is it a bamboo clog? In either case, can I smite the person who designed it with my evil feminist heels of spiky oppression?

Sorry for the comment fragment… iPhone ugh
bwuuuuuhhhh. what is wrong with you? wtf? beginning to regret my gentle ‘hey could you stop doing that’ I posted before I caught up on comments.
*eyetwitch* gaah do re, why? I actually like it when people stop trying to be mysoginistic, but I don’t think you even tried.
unintentional misogyny is still misogyny.

Finally some nice flats are posted 😀 I can’t wear heals because the way they make me stand hurts my back, and if they’re high enough they hurt my ankles too. Makes me sad because I have three cute ones I can’t use anymore, and not enough money to buy more dress shoes.
@ marie
While I’m not keen on the bamboo look on those ones, Sofft shoes are super comfy, you should totally check them out if you tend to get shoe related pain.
I actually can’t wear ballet flats because they hurt the balls of my feet, I feel like I’m basically walking barefoot on concrete.
Videogames are obviously not only for the sex, but sexy videogames for straight males ARE a legitimate genre so why are you trying to kill it?! Also, I can’t speak for anyone else but I personally have no problem at all with sexual products catering to female audience, in fact it’s actually affirming as a straight male for human males to be desired by human females even if it does not apply to me personally; males have always had the capability to identify with other males (even manginas, those sell-outs). Furthermore, I have never harassed any female, sexually speaking, as I have always had too many other hobbies to occupy my time and where I’m from, if you’re a certain socioeconmic level, it’s the lasses and ladies who seek to approach you on their own (With neither pride nor shame, that’s just how it is in the Philippines even for the middle class) for what the Japanese call “enjo kosai” and in my case none of whom was ever so young as 12 to my knowledge but then again I never asked (it’s bad manners after all to inquire about their age and/or weight) not to mention they’d never tell me the truth anyway.
@cassandra says
Thanks for the advice 🙂 I may check them out, or may not, because normally flats don’t but me, it’s just heels. And it’s so hard to find cute women’s shoes that aren’t heels, something I rant about often. My sister has even worse luck with it, because she has bad joints so she needs to shop around a lot for shoes that are comfy, but she is a firm believer that big clunky boots look great with dresses. (as am I, I just want a little more variety).
@cassandra says
ouch. That sucks. Unless they’re a shoe you don’t care to wear that much anyway.
back on shoes, does anyone know any cute shoes that aren’t ‘typical’ flats. Idk, where they don’t have the top open so much? It’s kind of a pain in colder weather. Though I supposed boots always would work. I’m rambling, but for some reason I can talk a real lot about shoes.
Those flats are heinous. I hate bows, they make me feel like a little girl. I do love a good flat though. Ever since ankle surgery two years ago, I have to be very choosy about heels.
I hear you! I have a friend who has size 4 feet – try finding pretty but not childish looking shoes in that size and you’ll end up having a nervous breakdown in the middle of Macys.
For colder weather I’d say maybe flat boots? If you have ankle issues then having the extra support of a boot around the ankle might help.
PS – I meant that in a very hostile, angry, hysterical sort of way. Wouldn’t want our new friend to feel out of place, after all.
Marie I was saying that females is a dehumanising term to use. I even clarified it in the next post and admitted I wasn’t clear enough about it, why is there still a problem with it? Yes I’m trying to change my ways but I’m not going to carry a misogynist cross wherever I go. Telling a woman to chill out in the exact same circumstances you would tell a man to chill out =/= misogynist. Calling a woman hostile in the exact same circumstances you would call a man hostile =/= misogynist. I don’t understand why I need to give you special privileges or I’m a misogynist. Not once has anything I’ve said to anyone here been a result of that persons gender, but I’ve been told repeatedly that’s the only reason I’ve said anything. I’ve treated everyone here the exact way I would treat a man and for that I am a misogynist.
I have a pair of studded combat boots that I wear almost every day. They go with everything and are comfy as hell.
So you’re a butt to everyone. OK then.
