So @catches_stars on Twitter is pretty hilarious. Sheโs also got an OkCupid account, and regularly posts snippets of her conversations with some of the more problematic dudes who contact her, some on her main Twitter account and some onย @okcupid_TXT. With her permission, and because I’m too lazy to actually write a post today, Iโm passing along a few of my favorites.
This overeager fellow has a rather sudden change of heart when his stated plan runs into an obstacle, that obstacle being that @catches_stars finds him completely repulsive.
This guy is either totally high or trying some weird and misguided PUA wizardry on her. (It does not succeed.)
This foot-obsessed fellow spammed her with the same message from several different accounts.
This guy, who seems to be shirtless in his profile pic, gets what I assume is, to him, a very disappointing answer.
As does this fellow.
Romance is hard.
Re: bras – I recently found an awesome, wireless bra at target for about twenty bucks that fit my 40DD perfectly. I went back and bought a ton more and am reveling. I’m prolly more like a 36 or 38 F or G, but 40DD Is close enough and hella cheaper.
Re: makeup
I recently tried to do a full rainbow eyeshadow and it was awesome despite รผber cheap cosmetics. I need to bite the bullet and get some high quality stuff, though. The battle seems to be between Mac and Sephora. I mostly want rich, saturated colors. Any recommendations?
drst – you said what I was going to re: abortion always having existed, but this bit is out: “What changed was that male doctors in the latter half of the 1800s started attending women during pregnancy, which was up until then the province of midwives. Those male doctors are the ones who started this nonsense about womenโs true identity being mothers and the idea that you could outlaw abortion based on someone elseโs criteria of when.”
Abortion was a capital crime in France in Mr K’s time. I know this because he actually saved a woman’s life when she appealed directly to him. She said she’d had a miscarriage, he looked into it and said there was no evidence otherwise.
Martyn, meanwhile, has outed himself more and more as racist, ableist and woefully ignorant about science, history and society in general, as well as being a mealy-mouthed misogynist.
Deoridhe: if you go to Sephora, check out Makeup For Ever. Their eyeshadows are super saturated. They make a fun line of fake lashes as well.
You can’t beat Urban Decay in terms of blendability and fun colors.

Particularly the bit around 2:40ish
And I’ve been throwing my bras in a pillowcase this whole time…
Weekend plans: Dinner tonight with my partner, ’cause it’s my birthday. ๐ Tomorrow, having some friends over for nerdy board games and dinosaur cupcakes.
Church on Sunday, where we’ll vote whether or not to keep our current minister. I’m extremely impressed at the way the discussion has been handled, because this sort of thing could have caused factioning and hurt feelings all around, but it hasn’t as far as I can see. But then, if there’s one thing UUs are famous for, it’s committeeing and discussing everything to death.
emilygoddess: Happy birthday!
@The Kittehs’
Yay for Mr. K!
I, of course, have no way of knowing if the woman was lying or not, but this is why it is a bad idea to criminalize abortion still (even aside from the moral reasons it must be legal): too hard to separate the “innocent” from the “guilty”.
OK, maybe more like 2:25 on that video. I’m bad at typing numbers correctly.
Happy Birthday, emilygoddess!
It seems like a pillowcase would do the same thing the lingerie bag does except let you see what is in it. (Important for some of us forgetful types, I use mine as a hamper so that my bras and stuff don’t get lost in the real hamper and accidentally dried.)
I’m probably way behind – still got a couple of pages to read – but it sounds like Martyn thinks it’s fine dandy to discriminate against people born with disabilities.
You know, life is too short for Marty. He’s sitting in his basement room jerking off about how neutral and logical and above it all he is showing us silly feminists online and wriggling with the attention. He’s not worth it. Moving on.
@hellkell – I have an abstract to write and some reading to get through this weekend. Probably going to watch “Dredd” since it’s here from Netflix, but I also bought “Brave.” Mostly I kind of want to lie around and be lazy. I was considering baking. I’m dying to try this dark chocolate pecan pie recipe with a real pie crust. Yum.
I just bought three more bras because I’m afraid they’re discontinuing the ones I like. Why does every item of clothing I love get discontinued?!?
I just assume anything in the pillowcase needs to be line-dried. But I don’t have to use a laundromat these days (FSM be praised), so my process is probably different.
Also, sorry if this is gross, but I only own two bras at a time that fit well enough for frequent use. Sometimes I can wear a top with a built-in bra, but they don’t need to be handled as delicately. And since I’m usually wearing one while I wash the other, my load of delicates is pretty small.
@The Kittehs’
I’d missed it the first time, but yeah, he seems to. emilygoddess’ video is perfect for Martyn and the bit at the end is hilarious. Tampons and manhating ftw!
I’m just about to go and get a blood test, then head out for the day with Mr K. It’s not going to be too outrageously hot, so we might as well enjoy it. Haven’t any solid plans, I’m half thinking of wandering up to the Toorak Village and looking at all the fancy stuff that’s too expensive to tempt me to buy it. (South Melbourne Market is more my price range.) ๐
I was going to a study day on Anglo-Saxon kings & coins, tomorrow, but have had to cancel. Thinking of maybe sliding over to the farmers’ market in the next town for some walnut bread, instead. Or nipping up to the allotment if the weather is fine.
Oh, and re: washing bras – I have some fancy ones, they just go into a washing bag and into the machine with everything else. We use cold water for washing, and they come out fine.
Why does every item of clothing I love get discontinued?!?
I know this pain.
Some Gal – you know the strangest thing about that incident? Mr K was all of eleven years old at the time. That’s a lot for a child that age to do – look at a legal case and put enough pressure on the adults around him to do something about it. A child king isn’t actually a powerful figure.
Okay, I better head off before the day’s half gone!
Can I talk about my magic pants that I bought at Old Navy back in the day?
They were clearanced out, the only pair and they fit perfectly. They are slightly dressy, but not too dressy and have continued to fit me as I have lost and gained and lots weight from going off medication to on medication to off. They fit almost as well at 180 lbs. as they do at 150.
I live in fear of the day they finally fall apart.
Freudian typo right there, I think.
I work this weeked. ๐ But at least work sometimes involves snowmobiles, which can be really fun unless the snow is like waist deep like it was where we were today, then we just get stuck every 5 minutes with our underpowered machines.
@bad_dog
๐ It really sucsks that you have underpowered equipment. I will hope for just the right amount of snow for you!
You guys are the best! I have been doing that thing of offering my friend limited choices, and was worried I was infantilizing him — but it does seem to help him actually do SOMETHING. <3 to you all (except the trolls).
Happy birthday emilygoddess! And happy snowmobile weekend to Bad_dog, and best wishes for just the right snow depth to enable your machines to function.
Ha ha, ninja’d by Some Gal.
Maybe it’s because I’m in a really weird mood today, but for some reason I was just finding Martyn the funniest troll ever, even though he’s being really icky. Sadly it stopped now, but at least I made it through most of the thread that way.
re:bras: My bra’s probably really smelly, it cost 60 dollars (is that a good or bad bra price, I can never tell?) and it’s underwire, so I have to wash it by hand, lest it risk getting bent. So it ends up getting cleaned a lot less than it should :/
(Sorry if I’m butting in. I’m so …weird about internet commenting.)
@Marie
You aren’t butting in at all. I found Martyn really funny off and on, but nothing will top “Driving is itself practical.” (The next part was funny too.)
I can’t help with the bra price. My size is carried in most stores and my mom is the queen of the clearance so she bought most of my bras for so little that it doesn’t matter if I use them to make cat bonnets.*
* Not a thing I have done, but is now something I am considering….
