So @catches_stars on Twitter is pretty hilarious. She’s also got an OkCupid account, and regularly posts snippets of her conversations with some of the more problematic dudes who contact her, some on her main Twitter account and some on @okcupid_TXT. With her permission, and because I’m too lazy to actually write a post today, I’m passing along a few of my favorites.
This overeager fellow has a rather sudden change of heart when his stated plan runs into an obstacle, that obstacle being that @catches_stars finds him completely repulsive.
This guy is either totally high or trying some weird and misguided PUA wizardry on her. (It does not succeed.)
This foot-obsessed fellow spammed her with the same message from several different accounts.
This guy, who seems to be shirtless in his profile pic, gets what I assume is, to him, a very disappointing answer.
As does this fellow.
Romance is hard.
>Sorry but without eugenics, humanity would have been very far behind compared to where we are today with it.
Man, I used to read Erich von Däniken and other Ufologists, but this is just whack. It’s like those guys who seriously suggested we buy a free energy-converter for our University.
Nope. Do you not know what balanced means?
Many aren’t.
It is relevant to the merits of even trying to have a so-called “theoretical” discussion.
*blink*
Did you…did you seriously just say that?
You get that you just said the world is better off because of the fucking Holocaust, right? Because either you’re a literal Nazi and you actually explicitly meant “yeah, thank god we killed off all those undesirables, they would have really brought the quality of humanity down” or you’re so damn stupid and caught up in your idiotic “everything is theory!” bullshit that you somehow kind of forgot that eugenics has had incredibly real consequences for millions and millions of people. Either way, you should be fucking ashamed.
No one here is interested in discussing theory with Marty. Perhaps he should fuck off?
Sooooo we were talking about PUAs and game.
Now we’re talking about abortions and the n-word as used by Tarantino?
Becoming MORE offensive is not going to get you points.
@Martyn from your comment at 1:18
Why I Used the N-Word As an Example
If you come across a dictionary, and flip to the page with the n-word, and it MAKES NO MENTION of the derogatory implications, it is a terrible dictionary. The “dictionary definition” is incomplete and useless.
Additionally, if we want to go “source material” for the n-word, that originally would have been created by white men who saw black people as less than human. Since you don’t seem to pick up on these things, I should tell you that makes them a biased, incomplete source. Just like your “source material” being written by people who created/support the theory of game are not credible sources (especially because they’re SELLING BOOK…Jesus, I could just copy-paste this argument.)
It’s especially mendacious because your whole goddamn argument started with “I’m just giving a definition!1!!1!” And later come up with
1. We already established that the USE of game sucks. (Manipulative, misogynistic, abusive)
2. I told you why your DEFINITION of game as theory sucks. (Biased, incomplete)
3. And we’ve known for pages that YOU suck.
The fuck is wrong with you?
Polliwog, he hasn’t forgotten about the Holocaust, he just hand waved the whole Nazi thing away. Because, you know, it’s practice. Our boy sMarty is into theory.
@Polliwog
Martyn is one of those trolls where there is so much wtf-did-you-just-say wrongness that, even tag-teaming, we can’t fully address all of the wrongness.
Is it that hard to grasp the difference between scriptwriting (a theoretical portrayal of an event) and an actual event? (Do I even need to explain this? Seriously?)
He tried to portray racism in a practical way within his latest movie Django Unchained in its brutal, harsh form based on his theory of how slavery was historically. It was not a promotion of racism but a description and portrayal of racism in the form of a motion picture. When Quentin Tarantino acted in the movie, he was acting another character, not playing the role as himself.
Why am I not surprises smartyMarty hasn’t heard of project implicit.
Marty: you do realize Django is historically inaccurate on many levels, right? I bet you think Birth of a Nation is a fucking documentary.
Well if you were genuinely interested in engaging in reasonable and productive discussion/debate then, no, this would be a terrible strategy.
If, however, all you want is to force people you perceive as women to pay attention to you then this has worked like gang busters.
Scriptwriting is a theory?
No. Scriptwriting is itself practical.
None of this makes either the movie or Tarantino himself NOT racist.
No need for theory here, we have historical records are themselves practical.
Sorry all, if I keep reanimating the troll. I’m occasionally a sucker for People Being Wrong on the Internet, but I will stop if it’s wearing on people to actually engage with someone both oblivious and evil enough to say that there were some positive aspects to EUGENICS for God’s sake. I might stop anyway, because I think I’ve made the same comment three times, using smaller words and simpler construction, and Martyn is either stupid or disingenuous.
pseudo_star: I think he’s being disingenuous as all get out, but I’ve got the Someone is WRONG-itis myself right now.
Seriously. I was rolling my eyes at everything else he’s said and thinking, “well, he’s terrible, but other people have already addressed this, thankfully” but then I hit “eugenics has made the world a better place” and just…well, my friends and I call it “hitting your Hulk point” – that moment when you just go from “boy, you’re kind of an idiot” to “THAT’S FUCKING IT, TIME FOR SMASHING.” I think he’s well past due to be smashed by an angry green feminist.
Note: I meant to address Martyn in my comment in case it was unclear.
As far as things that are not Martyn are concerned, is anybody here a scriptwriter? I miss living in LA and meeting aspiring scriptwriters all the time.
@pseudo_star
I too suffer from “people being wrong on the internet.” I got a second -wind, but will stop if others vote that way.
That’s your opinion. Making a mention of the implications is beyond the definition itself but most dictionaries will annotate with implications for that reason. That doesn’t affect that balanced definitions have an inherent positive bias.
Uh huh. So what have I not mentioned in my *explanation* of the game which is backed up by source materials written by those knowledgeable about the game which affects the definition? Game is a theory, if you want to talk as if it’s not a theory, use a different term (oh wait, that’s that PUA thing?)
You can say all you like that the definition is biased but as I’ve demonstrated here, all balanced definitions defacto carry a positive bias.
We could just start talking about bras or whatever else when he shows up. If we cut off his attention supply, maybe he’ll curl up and go away.
Oh my god, you’re a fucking moron.
Psuedo_star_17 was pointing out how some people who are racist -note are racist- will try to use the dictionary definition of the n-word (I have to write it that way, right? The filters will catch me otherwise) in attempt to remove it from its historical context and claim that they’re use of the word isn’t racist.
Quentin Tarantino is screen writer and director whose use of the n-word when writing scripts and characters has been both criticized and lauded. What he has not done, however, is remove the word from its context, deny its historical implications, or attempted to argue that he uses the word because it isn’t offensive.
That’s why bringing up Tarantino is a total, fucking non sequitor.
So what does everyone who’s not Martyn have planned this weekend?
Dude, you followed the exact path I laid out in my first post from “Eugenics is a personal choice” to “Eugenics is goof for society”. Don’t blame me if you’re too dim to follow your own logic.
“Women should be able to choose whether or not they have a child.” That’s it.
Shifted goalpost. “a tool for disposing of potential unwanted children”, since no-one’s talking about post-boirth infanticide here. Now the logic tracks correctly.
