Just a quick note to let you all know that the response to the Man Boobz pledge drive has been amazing. I am once again humbled by the outpouring of support.
Thanks, everyone, for the donations! I appreciate each and every one of them, big or small. (Sorry I’m a little behind in sending out the personal thank yous; I’ve been sidelined a bit by migraine this week.)
Given how well it’s gone, I’m going to wind the pledge drive up a little early this time, and stop with the naggy reminders, because I know how annoying those can be.
Thanks again, everyone!
Oh, just one more naggy reminder, and that’s it!
cloudiah: Just remember, kids — trying to insult people by calling them unemployed is not classist, but saying that someone lives in a basement of their parent’s house is classist. You heard it here first!
esp. when the charge was directly laid at someone known to have a job: so the point was much more specifically class based: since “basement dwellers” often have jobs, they lack social skills and empathy.
Yum, thanks.
Where would I find pistachio oil? Online, or would I luck out at Whole Paycheck?
Oh, kitteh, so the whole basement manchild thing has nothing to do with mental or financial wellbeing. They aren’t, say, stigmatized as being poor or autistic or jobless or anything they can’t help. Nope, just personality, so it’s okay for feminists to use it as an insult and completely not hypocritical. Or… maybe feminists have the Midas touch! Maybe they can use offensive and degrading terms like “fucktard” and suddenly they become okay because they’re said by feminists! Kind of like how people who say “kill all men” are joking and don’t deserve to be called out on their shit, while people who say “kill all women” are contributing to the patriarchy and rape culture, etc.
You made me smile. Thanks.
Aww, I gave PP his first smile for the
dayweek. How sweet!Ever seen anyone here use the term fucktard and not get told off? I haven’t. Ever seen ableism given a pass on this site? I haven’t. Ever seen anyone here say “kill all men” even jokingly? I haven’t.
And, correct, autism and joblessness never cross my mind when I’m calling losers like you basement-dwelling creeps. More like … the sort of distasteful type who’d design a game where two pregnant women hit each other.
Misogyny + no social skills + homophobia + shitloads of projection =/= autistic or unemployed. It does, however, = you.
Oh, look at Preggo Punchout trying to act like he gives a hoot about anyone but himself. How adorable.
hellkell: Where would I find pistachio oil? Online, or would I luck out at Whole Paycheck?
Sur la Table carries it, from a Calif. firm (La Touragnelle). It’s pricey. I may have invented a sauce, using it. I did a tarragon mayonnaise with it as the oil.
That was 16USD well spent.
Whole Paycheck probably carry it.
I don’t think my buying some (I get a discount) and you paying for it+shipping is going to save you money.
The going price for it seems to be about $25 for 9 oz (I get a nice discount). It, like all nut-oils, goes off quickly.
It is SO worth induldging in, every now and again.
I got to meet Argenti today! Wooo!
Brightened up, since the day has otherwise been a little on the rough side. (Fucking book. I was liking it so much, and then SURPRISE SLEEP SEXUAL ASSAULT and there went all my cope points.)
Whoa, did you guize have a good time? That would be so good. Geekery with added cool! 😀
And internet hugs if you want them ‘cos that rotten book.
Sorry about the book, LBT.
RE: Kittehs
Yeah, we did! Had some udon and chatting, looked at shops. Good times! I am slowly but surely achieving my goals of meeting the awesome people I know online.
RE: Cloudiah
*sigh* Yeah. It’s a shame, I adore this author, but… he did have some of the stuff that those folks from the sixties had regarding sexual liberation where it goes into skeeze territory. 🙁 Grah.
I must admit, Punchy McPregout makes a good point: we’re not allowed to insult someone’s personality, maliciously accuse men of being pedophiles, or use classist insults, but he most certainly is.
Oops, did I say he “makes a good point”? I meant “he’s cluelessly hypocritical to the 12th degree.” I know that’s not grammatical, but don’t force your standards of grammar onto me, femigrammarnazis.
apropos of nothing, puppy:

Oh, the jowls! What a puppy!
Still in Boston / on vacation so only sorta here, but lunch and wandering shops with LBT = awesome!
Also, “Why do none of our trolls understand conditional clauses?” — because conditional clauses are misandry!
Lol, opened the bulldog while sitting next to my mother. She says “awwww, is so cute!”. She also might kill me if I keep her up past 1 which means I need to start the Criminal Minds episode that’s buffering, so I’ll be sorta here again in an hour.
But yes, LBT is awesome, and Quincy Market was a blast, though I was sadly disappointed with the toy/kid’s store’s selection — they got all adult jokey since I was last up here. Oh well, at least we got to laugh at their moustashe corkscrew!
@cloudiah
Ahh, memories. That thread is an awesome blast from the past
@Cloudiah:
Yeah, just to make it nice and clear, here is FF at 2:58 am Feb 19:
And here is FF at 8:19 pm Feb 21:
Lol?
I don’t understand trolls. They come on the thread insult the people on the thread and then try to say that any response to those insults are unfair.
Not to mention that trolls are completely incapable of learning. I was looking at some threads from 2011 and guess who turned up … Preggo McPissant in his days as “FactFinder”.
Was he every bit as obtuse and hypocritical then? You betcha! It was all “you are all so rude, you should be polite to me!” and having his arse handed to him on a plate*.
*A coloured wooden platter, of course.
Wait, I’m kind of tired right now, but I have absolutely no idea what PP is trying to say. We’re proving Christian Weston Chandler right how exactly? Has he really ever made any political statements?
Yeah, the thing about respect and politeness is that asking for them just doesn’t work. It’s good practice to be polite and respectful to people, as a general rule, but if you feel like people aren’t treating you that way, well, you’re pretty much flat out of luck, because demanding them is always going to make people respect you less.
PP’s point is that he never has a point. 😛
It’s great, isn’t it? I met my three best friends online and we’ve met a few times in meatspace (damn,I have got to find a better word than that, it’s dire) and had a wonderful time each occasion.
Glad to hear the donations drive is going well! My contribution was embarrassingly small, but I promise that if I land one of the jobs I’m applying for, I’ll swing more your way.
Also, many thanks to whoever-it-was[1] that recommended Pontypool on whichever-it-was other thread! My partner said it was so great that he wants more Manboobz movie recommendations.
(Preferably movies low on the gratuitous violence as he refused to watch the rest of Utopia with me after that torture scene.)
[1] Google is refusing to remind me who it was.
Have you seen Stranger than Fiction, nerdypants?
– David Futrelle
The times, they are a-changin. My word, David has a history to him.
So, nerdypants, what sort of films do you and your partner like? Any particular genre?
