Hitting Women: Is it a Man’s Right?

Booster Gold: Woman Puncher, Men's Rights Hero
Booster Gold: Woman Puncher, Men’s Rights Hero

The Man Boobz Pledge Drive continues. See here for more details, or click below to donate.

And now back to our regularly scheduled post:

Someone posted this picture in the Men’s Rights subreddit yesterday with the title “Equality.”

[Trigger Warning: Depiction of violence against women.]

Yep, that’s right, equality is all about hitting women.  (Click the image for a larger version.)

The punchy superhero in question, Booster Gold,  is from the future, and “in the future he is from there is actual equality, or at least enough of it for the “you wouldn’t hit a girl” thing to not be any kind of issue,” as one Men’s Rightser explained in the comments,

Yep, in MRA-land, men hitting women – sorry, girls — is considered “progress.”

And a critical men’s rights issue. Responding to a Redditor who thought the picture was “fantastic” but wondered if it should be in the Men’s Rights subreddit, BlueOak offered this explanation:

MRblueoak

Making it socially acceptable for men to hit women, evidently a key plank on the Men’s Rights platform.

Wouldn’t it make a little more sense to work towards a world in which, you know, neither men nor women were getting punched on a regular basis?

They always want to make things worse, MRAs. Instead of reducing violence against everyone, they want to make more women victims of violence. The MRM motto: More Women Should Die in Shipwrecks!

Oh, should just clarify, my comment was kind of off topic. I wasn’t trying to say the post was off topic, it’d be weird to say that about someone’s own blog.

Do they feel they have the right to hit everyone except women?

Of course, the fact that the ‘girl’ in question is a bona fide supervillain, perfectly willing and able to use violence herself, unless forcibly subdued (and has the physiology to be able to withstand even super-strong punches), and furthermore exists in a world where physics and biology are very different, and thus even non-super-powered people are routinely one-punched into unconsciousness with no long-term effects whatsoever. (Note: In the real world, this will often prove fatal or permanently debilitating.)

So, new MRM motto: “It makes sense in a two-dimensional world with no relation to reality!”

Some Gal Not Bored at All

@Joanna

I think they do. They only think it is bad when a woman hits a man (which it is, obviously). Hitting other men and getting hit by other men demonstrates both toughness (punching) and “taking responsibility” (getting punched). These are qualities only men have in their world and they want to both keep it that way and hit women. Somehow, hitting women shows that women do not take responsibility.

I find the whole thing very frightening.

Booster Gold? I thought that was Green Lantern.

Also “…the gender imbalance in who is allowed to inflict violence and how the victim is allowed to respond…” is probably the worst part of a sentence I’ll read today.

Something I reblogged on tumbr that is perfect for this post:

“I mean, if somebody comes up to you and says “I think we should be treated as equals” and your first response is “does that mean I can punch you?”

You might need to rethink your priorities”

Booster Gold is NOT a jerk. At least not recently (though in the 80s, when that comic was made, he definitely was). Just check out Booster Gold v2 (2007-) and Justice League: Generation Lost. Or the cartoon episode of Justice League Unlimited, The Greatest Story Never Told.
I love Booster <3

That said, stop ruining potentially interesting issues, men's rightsers – debates regarding "perfect victims/villains" are interesting and well worth having, when they don't have their genesis in deep resentment for women.

Well said.Though of course we could question whether Booster doesn’t have a responsibility to see whether Ten is willing to surrender, since she poses no immediate threat.

Here, let me help them spell it out.

Bill of Rights for the Men’s Rights Movement

1. Men should be able to hit women without being arrested. This is the most important human rights issue of our time.

2. Equal numbers of men and women should die in all shipwrecks. If an all-male cruise ship sinks and men drown, an equal number of randomly chosen women shall be drowned.

3. Women should be encouraged to use more effective methods to commit suicide, to make sure equal numbers of men and women die.

4. I can’t go on, it’s making me depressed.

@andersH oh, I know, the line just rubbed me the wrong way for some reason. It just seemed so…tropey, though maybe that’s because I hate the whole “you can’t hit me cuz I’m a girl line” writers have girls say. It just doesn’t seem very in-character for supervillanesses, at least most, I don’t know the character he’s fighting there though, and it seems like normally a line guy writers think women would say. I did like him in the justice league when I saw him though, which is why I had a sad the mra’s were using him as an example.

ugh. Making me have a sad since I’m sure it’s something some of them would say 🙁

5. No more of that women being allowed to say no to sex nonsense. That’s misandry, that is.

What is it with all the MRM/MRA violence worship?

I want to live in Booster Gold’s egalitarian future where women aren’t assumed to be weak. But that means fighting supervillains, MRAs! Not beating your girlfriend! Geez!

Also, stop dragging the good name of Booster Gold through the mud. Blue Beetle will have a few choice words to say about this.

I hit a girl once, who was my sister, ’cause we were little and having a fight. It was shitty and I felt shitty and I’m a woman. Hitting people is wrong.

Don’t these guys also get angry when a woman hits a man? Like, they bring up cases of domestic violence where a woman beat a man during any discussion of domestic violence? That is not equality. At all.

Because women are secretly evil temptresses who want to get into relationships with beta men who they hit while cheating with alpha males and spermjacking the beta dudes and falsely accusing them of rape even while never having sex with them that they DESERVE!!! And then leaving them and becoming single mothers on welfare with porsches and mansions.

Because that totally happens.

There’s actually a terrible recent Spearhead post where W.F. Price thinks men should not focus on violence against or sexual assault of men, because that’s just buying into the feminist culture of victimhood. He thinks AVfM is wrong to talk about it. Driversuz is in the comments getting downvoted. Here’s a Google cache link to avoid giving them traffic. (But you won’t see the comments.

Don’t forget the super hero comics where the ladies all like “you wouldn’t hit a woman would you?” and super man is all like “YOUR NOT A WOMAN” and punches her.
