On the topic of intoxication and consent, I don’t know how relevant it is but people have very different responses to the same drinks/whatever. I don’t drink alcohol at all these days, and when I did it was a couple of glasses maybe once or twice in a year. I can feel it affecting me after that little simply because I’m not used to it, and that would be a very different matter re: consent than for someone who’s accustomed to it. I would not want to be in the situation of giving consent after a couple of drinks, because it might well be something I would never agree to sober. But my reaction isn’t something that can be extrapolated to everyone, which is yet another variable our latest troll seems to be overlooking.
Mind you, if someone feels that the other person having had almost anything to drink = making consent dubious, then the solution is simple: leave them alone.

Argenti, Pecunium is right; you totally have what it takes to roast coffee. It’s quite easy.
The green beans are often cheaper than already-roasted beans, so it’s not too much of a cost sink, but it is a time sink.
One thing you could do is save your home-roasted beans for special occasions, and use storebought coffee the rest of the time. 🙂
Roasting them yourself is so much more delicious. Years ago I was gifted a gallon of green beans. Competitive winnowing is a hoot!
Pecunium, Just because it’s a poor argument doesn’t change the fact that it is an argument. If he truly felt entitled he wouldn’t have to beg and plead with them to sleep with him, he would just rape them. The fact that he is pleading with them means that he is acknowledging the girls agency and that they still have a decision to make. Granted he is doing a piss poor job of trying to get them to sleep with him. Insulting people is hardly the way to get what you want from them.
If anything, all I am saying is I have a stricter standard and less flexibility in issues regarding rape. I am far less tolerant of “grey areas” like intoxicated sex than other people. My personal standard for what is rape doesn’t automatically say everyone else is advocating rape for not adopting it.
pseudo_star_17, And what I am saying is, you could have a six pack, not be slurring your words but more chatty and be calmer and more relaxed and give consent. However, I would not accept it. Doing so would make me feel like I was putting you in a vulnerable position. Hence I would decline. If you wouldn’t do something sober, then why would you do it drunk?
Kittehs, exactly! Although, I am not extrapolating it to everyone. I would base the decision to not accept a partners consent using: body weight, number of drinks drunk, any drugs taken and changes in behavior. If someone is typically a wallflower and is now talking everyone up and people are drinking, that is cause for further examination. It’s not that being chatty is wrong. It’s that it falls outside of the scope of typical behavior for that person. I would most likely be very conservative however. You will not run into any problems by denying consent.

NNY ley me first say that I approve of the idea of not having sex if there’s even a suspicion of intoxication. If YOU feel that you would have difficulties in determining what consent/enthusiastic consent is, then YOU’VE taken a position to do no harm. Given how many PEOPLE do not understand consent and how to obtain it or be comfortable in obtaining it, I sometimes find myself wishing more people would take that tack. All this being said, plenty of people DO understand consent, how to give or ask for it and are entirely comfortable in doing so.

1) You don’t know that all he’s doing is complaining.
2) He’s reinforcing the prevalent trope that women owe sex to any man who wants it from them. That is not harmless, because not all women – especially the young, the vulnerable, those whose self-esteem has been eroded by this sort of shit and those who’ve internalised misogyny and not yet recognised it – are in a position to tell him and his like to fuck off, or to resist pressure for sex they don’t want. I wish they were, but his whining entitlement is part of a much bigger picture.
