No Godwin’s Law here. This Men’s Rights Activist really IS a Nazi.

Great. Another Hitler baby.
Great. Another Hitler baby.

Well, now you’ve gone and done it, you evil feminists: you’ve turned 0bvious_Atheist into a Nazi!

We first met the Men’s Rights subreddit regular the other day, when in a fit of ingenuity he blamed the Newtown school shootings on, er, Title IX. Well, his strange political journey has continued, and on his blog, on Boxing Day, the Canadian MRA officially announced his conversion to neo-Nazism. Literally. Let’s let him explain:

I have grown impatient

I have lost my desire for conventional activism. We live in an era where men like Warren Farrell are run off campus by mobs of Femistasi, men like Keenan Midgley get maligned for trying to start Men’s Centres, JohnTheOther gets harassed in the streets and others like him get assaulted, Mr. Heimbach a white students advocate in the United States, is constantly maligned by the media and the intellectual establishment, and Jared Taylor, a meek and mild Yale graduate, is harassed at every turn by the establishment.

Huh. I have to admit I’m not completely up-to-date on all the examples of anti-white, anti-male oppression he lists here, but I would like to point out that Warren Farrell did not, in fact, get run off the University of Toronto campus. A number of students protested his visit, some of them quite rudely, but the police interceded on his behalf, clearing away protesters so he could go ahead and make his speech.

I also looked up that vague reference to “Mr. Heinbach,” and discovered that Matthew Heimbach is a student at Maryland’s Towson University who wants to start a White Student Union there. As part of his campaign for tolerance on behalf of America’s beleaguered white majority, he recently posed in front of Martin Luther King Jr.’s church in Montgomery holding a Confederate flag.

Gosh, how terribly unfair it is that some people might have criticized him for this.

Mr. Atheist continues:

I’m a young man. I don’t have the patience to go around asking for permission to exercise my inalienable, natural right to freedom of association. As Harold Covington said, Whites feel they need a permission slip from quote “the Jews” unquote to advocate for them. I feel the same thing can be said of Men’s Rights Activism. We feel that we need permission from Feminists, the intellectual establishment, and the state to self-advocate. Our entire movement has become a quest for permission from the left to self-advocate.

I’m pretty sure that not even a single molecule of that is even remotely true. What color is the sky in Imaginary Backwards Land?

We want a Men’s Ministry in the government. We want Men’s organizations on campus. We want White student unions. All of those things are politically toxic to the establishment and out of reach, and furthermore, if you look at what the “Men’s Ministries” in the Northern European welfare states have done you will remain unimpressed, and perhaps even alarmed, at how little they have mitigated the total alienation of young men from the respective societies of those countries.

Of course, the young men who are most alienated from society in the Northern (and Southern) European welfare states today are the immigrants who are so despised by Mr. Atheist and his fellow White “Nationalist” racist assholes. And these young male immigrants aren’t feeling alienated because of a lack of White Student Unions or the unimpressive actions of Men’s Ministries; they’re feeling alienated because of racism and a lack of jobs.

With this in mind we must recognize that productive organizations simply are not going to become a reality. If you doubt me, you can go look at what they did to Dr Warren Farrell when he tried to speak at the University of Toronto. I have absolutely no desire to be screamed at, spit on, expelled, fired, ostracized, and made into a pariah for simply asking to exercise my right to freedom of association.

So the fact that a couple of dozen students protested against a speaker on a college campus, delaying his talk for half an hour or so, means that normal political activity on behalf of your ass-backwards faux “civil rights movement” is impossible? Mr. Atheist, do you have any fucking idea what real civil rights advocates went through in order to get the same basic rights as everyone else, like the right to fucking vote? Do you think that feminists weren’t ever “screamed at, spit on, expelled, fired, ostracized, and made into … pariah(s)?”

What sort of strange entitled bubble do you live in that you think political activism should be painless?  Or that your political opponents should simply roll over once you express your opinions?

Congratulations intellectual establishment. After around 14 years of politically correct education at politically correct institutions run by politically correct professors you have alienated me, first as a White, and secondly as a male. I have got absolutely no patience for your goddamn processes, your forms, your organizational quotas and quorums required to get approval from the UVSS. I’m fed up, and I’m going elsewhere else to self-advocate.

If you’re really serious about going “elsewhere else,” might I suggest another planet?

As market Anarchists and Libertarians constantly must remind you crypto-Marxists, if you ban something the buyer will go elsewhere in the market to get it. That’s exactly what I plan to do. Rather than grovelling at the feet of professors, academics, pseudo-intellectual social justice warriors, and Femistasi, I’m just going to go join the Western Front, a quasi-Neo-Nazi, semi-illegal White Nationalist political organization that accepts me for what I am and understands my problems. You have driven a relatively well off, intelligent, middle class, White male, who used to vote NDP, into the arms of the very people you taught me to despise for the totality of my formative years.

Great. I guess the one upside of all this is that Mr. Atheist won’t be calling feminists “feminazis” from now on. Not that “femistasi” is much of an improvement.

Oh, and in case anyone needs visual evidence of how much of a racist fuck 0bvious_Atheist really is — not that there’s much doubt — here’s a link to a cartoon he stuck onto the end of one of his recent YouTube videos. But first, a TRIGGER WARNING for really really racist rape imagery. Link.

(Note: There doesn’t seem to be any information online about a neo-Nazi group called Western Front, at least not in Canada. There was evidently one by that name in Los Angeles at one point. Does this group, like the anti-white-male oppression he talks about, exist only in 0bvious_Atheist’s head? EDITED TO ADD: There is a group called Northwest Front; presumably that’s what he meant.)

The whole “achievements” line kind of makes me laugh, though CassandraSays makes a good point about not buying into it. But the thing I laugh about with it is that I don’t have the sort of material or educational achievements these trolls pretend to. I didn’t finish high school, let alone doing university. My jobs have been a succession of … jobs, things that pay the rent. Have I no achievements? Bollocks I haven’t. Have I been in anything recognised by most as a relationship, or a series of them? Nope, but I’m in a situation that makes me extremely happy on those lines, and that has made me good friends on-line and in person (the same people in many cases – yay for being able to travel overseas).

So all the pretentious crap from the trolls is just pathetic, because they look at things from this narrow, blinkered notion of what constitutes success, just as they look at people and can’t cope with anything that isn’t a misogynistic, bitter idea of gender roles and identities. And then they make stuff up to try to impress people on a mockery site!

All of which is trying to lead up to saying “achievements” are a damn sight more fluid than anything some troll thinks. Or society in general, for that matter.

Depression is so awful, and I’m sorry you have it, The Omega Woman. I’ve only had the faintest hint of it and that’s bad enough, I can’t imagine dealing with the full-on thing.

Melissa – just saw your post appear as I was typing my screed.

It’s really common to think of rape as stranger rape, so it’s no surprise when someone does, particularly if their own experiences reflect that. But yeah, it isn’t the case. I’m not sure even the lowlifes you mentioned having flirted with a few times would count as strangers – you’d met and flirted, that makes them acquaintances, at least as I understand it.

I’m so sorry these horrible people did these things to you.

I’m not sure women have quite the Nice Guy training that leads us to throw the toys out of the pram when our infallible plans fail, though. We have “do this or boys won’t like you” lurking under it all rather than “do this and girls definitely will like you”. Not letting Nice Guys off the hook for that, by any means, but the narrative is there for them to grab on to with their horrid entitled hands.

And ah, Mr Al. He was amazing. A Nice Guy who skipped the Nice and went straight to the rage. He disconcerted me because up to a certain point his I-am-hideous-nobody-will-love-me stuff was familiar and then he went off into a whole world of hate that bewildered me slightly. And then the thing about how women can control their attractiveness because (a)only fat women are unattractive to men and (b)all fat women can and should become thin, and their refusal to do so is an insult to poor tragic beta men who only wish they had that option. Part of me clings to the hope that he will grow out of it, but maybe that’s because the other major troll around at the time was NWOSlave, who could make most people look redeemable by comparison. And being older will also mean an older, less insecure peer group. Being old enough not to be regularly sniggered at for unattractiveness/uncoolness/whateverthehell was an enormous relief. It only took a couple of comments (and a lot of spots) for me to spend years convinced that my appearance was a source of universal hilarity.

But then he’d say something so utterly obnoxious that my sympathy just shrivelled into a ball of displeasedness. You just don’t get that kind of emotional rollercoaster with the trolls these days.

The Omega Woman — it’s the typo sprite, gets us all eventually (and it’s closely related to the blockquote monster). As for why you don’t comment, I’m rather a failure at life (not that you are >.< ), I really on’t have any epic achievements — I just happen to speak math 🙂

Point here is that you could always drop cute animals or jokes, we do need a sarcasm font, but /sarcasm gets the point across.

…and I see others have commented while I was doing John Anderson’s math for him…

If doing trolls’ maths for them was a paying proposition, between Steele, NWO and this bloke, you’d have a comfortable pension fund by now.

“My point in that bit of the discussion was that that rapists don’t want to change the situation – presumably they LIKE rape.”

Ok, that would seem a logical assumption, except in the four cases of rape that I know/am the victim of…maybe on would call it rape. One likely thought sex in exchange for rent was a good deal; one insists he has no memory of anything resembling rape (small wonder, consider he never really understood consent versus being a whiny asshole and making demands); one made multiple apologies, claiming she didn’t realize how serious what she did was (yes, she); and the one that might realize it was rape probably figured it was deserved, revenge rape if you will.

All four were on a first name basis between victim and rapist, three were intimates (the fourth is the first one, the rent situation)

So idk, I think they like power, and certainly like the idea of getting away with it. If the female mentioned had been explicitly told that waking some one with sex is Not Cool at best, and rape legally speaking, I’m not sure she’d have done it.

Lol, I wish! I don’t mind doing math for people who just a question btw. I actually enjoy it, or I wouldn’t take the time to do troll math. Should’ve gone for a math degree, my most-of-a-psych degree is clearly oh so helpful *sigh*

The UK is in the middle of its nastiest attack in some time on disabled people and benefit claimants, by government and media, and it all feeds revoltingly well into the things my own brain tells me about how I am just lazy and should Pull Myself Together(TM) and so on. I think I am if anything turning into more of a bleeding heart as I get older and everything’s just horribly sad, so I am finding Manboobz generally very useful currently. For some reason when I have small mental health wobbles I find a new comments section to ramble in, and this one has the advantage of familiarity. And kittens.

Incidentally, I still feel entitled to assert my superiority over silly lying trolls, because I don’t hate more than half the world’s population and I make some level of effort not to be a complete arse. The standards aren’t nearly so intimidating from that perspective.

I think the point being missed here is that even if rapists don’t want to change, it may be possible to force them to do so by removing the social structures that make it easy for them to get away with rape. You know, things like the tendency to ask “well what was she doing/wearing/why was she out so late?” rather than “why did he rape her?”. The social tendency to shift the focus to the actions of the victim is a big part of what makes rape so easy to get away with, and so unlikely to be punished, and the rapists who are 100% aware of what they’re doing and happy about it? They know the way society treats rape victims and are in fact counting on it to get them off the hook.

Cassandra — doubled because there must be things that were missed! Yeah ok, that’s called a margin of error, and doesn’t get published if the margin of error is equal to the data. That’d be like….there are 20 cories in my 55 gallon tank, plus or minus 20 *dies* (ftr, it’s 21 +/- 1)

Thank you all for the warm welcome! ^_^

May someone please tell how to block-quote? =/ In the meantime, I’ll just “regular” quote.

@ The Kitteh

“It took me a while of lurking to work up nerve to comment, too – not because I was too worried about being seen as a troll, but because most of the regulars here are formidably educated and I wasn’t too sure I could contribute.”

I mostly don’t comment for that very reason. On top of that–I don’t have the penchant for kitties that some of you guys do. I know! Blasphemy! 😉
I get that this isn’t Feminism 101–but not everyone coming here is going to be a seasoned feminist. There are people who consider themselves feminists–but they don’t know what Rape Culture is.

“There’s also the matter of others here having been victims of such abuse, and really not needing to see the apologetics all over again.”
You’re right…I hadn’t considered this.

@Riginaldgriswold

“I’m not really sure that this comment section is unwelcoming to newcomers. I’ve read this site for 2ish years, and only started commenting this fall. I’ve never felt unwelcome. But maybe that’s because I didn’t show up and start making excuses for rapists and abusers.”

The thing is…when I held similar views–I didn’t realize that was what I was in fact doing. Nobody thinks they’re wrong.

“I don’t really think that means that the commentariat on every website needs to tolerate things that are against its stated message or that a commenter is owned an in-depth explanation of why their opinion is problematic.”

Fine I suppose. But that can create a pretty hostile environment for well-intentioned but misinformed feminist newbies. Regardless…the way Melissa was being treated in this thread was making me rather uncomfortable though.

@Pecunium

“I’m not a fan of being hard on newcomers> I’m pretty tolerant of idiots, even after they’ve proven to be idiots (see Diogenes, varpole, John Anderson, et alia).”

The general vibe though seems to be that the slightest disagreement will be met with outright vitriol. It’s another reason I hardly comment. For example, I don’t consider Diogenes a troll. He just seems like he has a different opinion and outlook =/ I don’t know…He seems like he wants to comment in good faith.
Or maybe I am naive?
I tend to look for the best in people. I still do that, even after reading the horrible misogyny that the trolls go on about–or the stuff posted by David.

…I actually didn’t see how Melissa came in. I couldn’t find the thread. I actually did look for it because I wanted to see what happened before piping up…Regardless, it just seems like this thread was getting out of hand. Maybe I shouldn’t have commented after all. I didn’t have all the facts before doing so…
=P

@ Argenti Aertheri

=D Thank you! And thank you for the baby pig! Aw! Though I’m not completely enamored with kitties…You actually happened to pick my favorite baby animal! <3 I am considering getting a pet pig one day.

@CassandraSays – which is why I hate the whole locking-doors analogy: quite apart from the equation of property with bodily integrity which is ick ick ick, nobody’s talking about preventing burglary in a cultural context where by having somewhere to live we’re asking to be robbed. Which is why even when people bristle at the term “rape culture” I will bloody well use it because it’s what we bloody well have.

Leaving out the criminality of it, there is a similarity there (as has been mentioned already) to the changing attitudes to things like smoking. Pecunium mentioned it and so will I: I remember when a “non smoking” seat in a plane meant being surrounded on three sides by smokers. I remember when offices were full of smoke, and when it started to change in the mid 80s in Australia, there was quite some resistance from smokers who thought they had every right to smoke where and when they wanted, regardless of what it was like for anyone else (and that’s without going into the health aspects of passive smoking). But now? It’s being banned in outdoor eating venues. It’s illegal to smoke at rail stations or tram stops that have shelters (though this one gets flouted all the time). Pubs and restaurants have survived without letting people smoke inside. Smokers whine about being pariahs. Cigarette packets are due to be put into plain packaging soon, to cut part of the appeal (and doesn’t Big Tobacco hate that idea!)

So change can happen, even with things that have been extremely and explicitly accepted for decades or centuries.

I think I have about 20 dollars in my wallet, but there may be some cash that I missed. From this I conclude that there’s probably a spare tenner, so doubling that I will assume that there’s actually 40 dollars in my wallet!

I hope he doesn’t use that sort of logic when he’s dealing with practical stuff, or there are going to be some awkward moments at the coffee shop.

I’d argue that the reason you see so much angry rape apologism at the moment is that the cultural attitudes towards rape have already started to shift, and some guys really don’t like that.
