Over on Reddit, Men’s Rights subreddit regular 0bvious_Atheist has offered the most, well, inventive explanation for the Newtown school shootings I’ve seen thus far. Apparently channeling the old Man Boobz troll NWOslave, he argues that they were the result of … Title IX.
The only good news here is that this theory was too weird and opportunistic for even the Men’s Rights subreddit, and 0bvious_Atheist’s post got many more downvotes than upvotes.
Also, the 4Chan thing hasn’t been confirmed by any reputable media source. Here’s something from the not-exactly-100%-credible Daily Mail on it is definitely a fake.
Thanks to r/againstmensrights for pointing me to 0bvious_Atheist’s post.
May I just take this moment to register how much I hate the phrase “needless to say”?
They’re just HOPING she gets dead. It would be a shame if anyone every carried that out, though, even though it’s what they hope for.
^ anyone ever ^
Now now clairedammit, you know you’re just being a misandrist, picking on his writing like that!
Indeed and to be sure, feminists are so petty; missing the forest for the trees, as it were.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH it’s BubonicSteelePlague! Run away! Run away!
Hahaha, he’s so easy to imitate, I feel a little bit cheap doing that.
Wait till he discovers the word “proverbial.”
You mean provilbial right? (Ok, I just failed to combine proverbial and vile. I admit it, and will now go sit in the corner of shame.)
The day Steele met the semicolon is the day civilization started going downhill.
Derailing the derail*, Feministe has an interesting article about the Newtown murders and the calls for gun control and better mental health care. (Possible trigger warning for the mentally ill being more likely to suffer violence than to be violent.)
*also goes to corner of shame
At Man Boobz, derailing isn’t a bug, it’s a feature.
Hey Argenti, d’you think we could persuade Steele to give Tony a punctuation transfusion?
That’d require listening to Steele rant, for probably 5+ pages, so no. I’d rather deal with Tony’s drive-by-trolling, lack of punctuation and all.
Anyways, Steele’s punctuation was barely any better; at least Tony seem to have the excuse that English isn’t his native language, Steele just blamed misandry for his shitty writing.
And that’s how you work a semi-colon — that shit goes between two clauses that could both stand as separate sentences. Or in certain types of lists, eg — New York, NY; Salem, MA; Chicago, IL. So then, semi-colon use! Between two sentences that share a similar thought, or in a list where commas would get confusing. Before a dependent clause is simply unacceptable.
I definitely approve of the phrase “punctuation transfusion” though 🙂
Re: that feministe piece — “What’s needed is ongoing treatment and enormous social support for people who are ill, because there’s often not one pill you can take to simply cure a complex problem.” — *points to the shelf above zir head* — there’s four such pills up there, and for the love of all things holy I’d better be adding a sleeping pill that works (without sending me into mixed state hell) to that list.
In other words, I approve of this article. (Ironically, the latest addition to the pile above my head is supposed to be a silver bullet of sorts…color me wary.)
LOL merci!
Yeah, I’ve no idea why steelyboy finds it so hard to use the damn things properly. How can it be misandry to have to absorb those two very basic functions? Or is “stand-alone clause” a secret feminist code phrase that scrambles his alleged brain?
Re: the pills – I shudder at the thought of having to balance all that. Just “getting older” pills plus antidepressants are enough.
(Fribbie would say it’s all self-inflicted and just punishment for hoomins who insist on poking pills down HER throat.)
“Or is ‘stand-alone clause’ a secret feminist code phrase that scrambles his alleged brain?”
I think that’s it. Afaik he never did say what grade he was in when that evil feminist teacher told him he couldn’t write and he gave up trying to learn to write altogether because of misandry. Could well have been somewhere around proper use of clauses.
And the pills aren’t too bad to sort out, I have a pair of those weekly planners, one AM, one PM. Assuming I don’t forget to get refills, it works. Well, nearly works, the “silver bullet” drug comes with the DEATH RASH risk (link not for the weak of stomach — SJS but no signs of that so far *knocks on wood*)
Yeah, being crazy is oodles of fun sometimes!
Also, Fribble looks like grumpy cat’s lighter cousin.
Holy fuck, put a warning on that SJS link!
You did put a warning on that link. I guess I’m just an indefatigable link-clicker.
Nonetheless, I apologize for ruining your lunch/dinner/brain.
Gods, you’re right about that link! What a truly horrible thing. Lots of knocks on wood here, too!
LOL about Fribs! She does look a bit heavy in the face in that shot, but I promise she doesn’t really look like Grumpy Cat (who I’m sorry to say is one of the few cats other than Persians I think is ugly). Fribs is actually a very pretty girl, though I haven’t any of her best pics online.
Oh she’s just doing that typical cat “oh you have a camera?” disdain. She’s a pretty cat, even if she does think she’s better than the camera.
And yeah, my psych and I have had about 3 talks that sum as “it’s very rare, <1%” “1% is not zero”…and for once I don’t care that I’m being irrational!
Yeah, those “chances are very low” type conversations don’t do it for me, either, whether it’s something good or bad. Unlikely or very small chance does NOT equal “cannot ever happen”.
also cat seriously pissed off at having her picture taken
Your cat is adorable, Kitteh!
