Canada: Land of Danger for Men and Boys?

feministbear
Canadian feminist trying to eat a man’s butt

I’ve seen some strange and paranoid comments on Men’s Rights hate site A Voice for Men, but this recent comment may be the strangest and paranoidest I’ve ever seen. In the comments to a post outing one of the protesters at the Warren Farrell talk at the University of Toronto, a commenter called Redfield is worried that Canada has now become some sort of death trap for men. Because of all the feminism.

AVFMredfield

That’s right: Because a couple of feminist college students in Toronto made jokey remarks on Twitter about killing all men, this man is afraid that his 18-year-old son will be in actual physical danger from evil feminists if he sets foot in Canada.

In a later comment, he reports that he and his sons will be going to Canada after all:

AVFMredfield2

But he wonders if there are any “travel advisories” that can, I guess, warn him where feminists tend to congregate:

AVFMredfield3

In the comments here at Man Boobz, Cloudiah imagines how his conversation with the consulate staffer might have gone:

Mid-day at the Consulate General of Canada in Sydney.

Pierre: Hello, you’ve reached the Consulate General of Canada. My name is Pierre. How may I help you?

MRA: I am planning a trip to Canada with my sons next year, and I wanted to know what the feminist threat level will be?

Pierre: Excuse me?

MRA: Yellow? Orange? RED???

Pierre: I’m sorry, I don’t understand.

MRA: I need to know what steps I need to take to protect myself and my boys from being killed by feminists. Do we need to get any shots?

Pierre: Did you say ‘feminists?’

MRA: How many men would you estimate are killed by feminists in Canada in January? February? Or do feminists only thaw out in the Spring?

Pierre: You think we freeze feminists?

MRA: I need to make travel plans!

Pierre: Sir, I think you might have been misinformed.

MRA: I assure you that my information is accurate. It cannot be denied that feminists have been engaged in a campaign to kill all men in Canada.

Pierre: Sir, I believe I would have heard about that.

MRA: I SAW A VIDEO! A pack of rabid feminists tore Warren Farrell apart, limb from limb, and feasted on his spleen!

Pierre: Warren who?

MRA: Then an angry mob of feminist zombies attacked John the Otter with flamethrowers. Or maybe one of them had a cigarette lighter, but it was definitely menacing.

Pierre: John the what?

MRA: They might have accidentally singed his sleeve! Or murdered him with fire!

Pierre: Sir, I’m not sure how to say this but… It might be best if you stayed home.

MRA: It’s because they’re SPERMJACKING us now, right? You’re saying that for my own protection. I get you.

Pierre: Um, sure. Right. Please do not come to Canada. Ever.

MRA: THEY’RE POINTING A GUN AT YOUR HEAD RIGHT NOW, AREN’T THEY?

Pierre: [Holds phone in front of his face for a moment. Slowly places it back in the cradle.]

MRA: [Hears dial tone.] Oh my god, they’ve killed him. I must alert A Voice for Men!

I think this is literally how these guys see the world.

This may be why Men’s Rights movement is so much less popular these days (as a search term at least) than one up-and-coming rival for the world’s attention: Smelly discharge. Google Trends doesn’t lie!

GTmrvssmelly

Thanks to Cloudiah for coming up with this as well. She is winning so many internets she may need to move into a bigger place.

To see more things the Men’s Rights movement is less popular than, click here.

NOTE: I am aware that “paranoidest” is not a real word. The correct term is “paranoidallyest.”

Underpants dude made me giggle. I’m a woman and I know how to sew, shoot, cook and can food, and make fire. It’s called growing up in the country. My boyfriend, the city boy that he is, is all kinds of upset because the bread machine broke so now he can’t make bread (by hand! why that’s barbaric!). Were civilization to collapse tomorrow, I’d be keeping him alive. LOL

Tolkien’s spider issue is even weirder when you consider the fact that he was English. Not a lot of really scary spiders in England. It would have made more sense if he’d had Bilbo facing off against a bunch of evil wasps.

ISTR from a biography of Tolkien I read 10 to 15 years ago that he was born and lived in Africa for about 5 years or so.

Ha! My memory is not completely worthless. From Wikipedia:

John Ronald Reuel Tolkien was born on 3 January 1892 in Bloemfontein in the Orange Free State (now Free State Province in South Africa) to Arthur Reuel Tolkien (1857–1896), an English bank manager, and his wife Mabel, née Suffield (1870–1904). The couple had left England when Arthur was promoted to head the Bloemfontein office of the British bank for which he worked. Tolkien had one sibling, his younger brother, Hilary Arthur Reuel, who was born on 17 February 1894.

As a child, Tolkien was bitten by a large baboon spider in the garden, an event which some think would have later echoes in his stories, although Tolkien admitted no actual memory of the event and no special hatred of spiders as an adult. In another incident, a family house-boy, who thought Tolkien a beautiful child, took the baby to his kraal to show him off, returning him the next morning. Citation numbers removed

I know Wikipedia is not entirely trustworthy, but I figure this is Tolkien. He’s like the patron saint of the Webbernetz. It’s certainly one of the longest articles on W that I’ve ever seen.

Yes, but as we ALL KNOW, women can’t do military standard pull ups. And that’s the gold standard for survival in the wilderness.

2. Spiders – I think Tolkein spent some time as a child living in Africa, and so had an encounter with a massive tarantula. I’ll have to look again, though.

Dammit, I should learn to read closer for ninja.

@justeunperdant

Women are in danger because they are useless and stupid. They have no physical strength to fight nature (wild animal, build wood shelter and so on).

As someone who grew up in a farming town, let me just say:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! HOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO! HEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEEHEE!

If my grandma was still alive she could kick your ass dude, and this is not a “you’re so weak you could be beaten by an old lady” thing, this is a “my grandma was a farmer and she was constantly doing hard work, so she was strong as all heck” thing. Women will manage just fine when your whiny asses go their own way, and not just because your “movement” is such an insignificant blip in the radar.

It seems like the whole purpose of this blog is to report on “A Voice For Men”. Thanks, I wouldn’t have found them if it weren’t for you. After having read through it, I have found less hate there than I have found here, and they seem to be far more logical. I’m going to sign up today. Keep spreading their word.

They’ve doxxed another one. Stupid tablet doesn’t want to let me paste the URL.

@Mark Weird… I hadn’t heard of AVfM before coming here either, and I didn’t magically turn into a FeMRA after visiting it a cople of times. How can that be?

Mark apparently never heard of Google? And yet it’s women who are useless and stupid…

Uh no, another troll said we’re not logical then doesn’t bother to explain what they mean.

What’s not logical is sexism and racism.

It’s cool, I just threw that out there so someone else would Google it for me 😛

So, markjones, care to tell us how you found Manboobz in the first place?

(Also, I really, REALLY wish people who don’t understand logic would stop talking about who is being more “logical”.)

MRA’s live in a fantasy world where women have no arms and exist basically as sea sponges, floating around and relying on men for anything that isnt basic oxygen. They have no concept of capable women, physically strong women, and emotionally stable women. They think they without them, we would curl up, make a small squeaky noise, and just implode.

Then they would be free to make more MRA’s via anal sex because you have to be created in such a fashion to be such an asshole.

I suppose that everybody who disagrees with you is considered a troll. This is part of your method of surrounding yourself with like-minded people so that you won’t have examine your own beliefs from time to time. It’s lazy and cowardly, but not surprising. I know what Google is, but I don’t spend too much time online, so I might be missing what that comment means.
I see that part of manboobz’s mission statement is “to expose misogynists and other terrible people by quoting the hateful things they say.” I have seen what those people who AVFM has exposed have said, and it seemed pretty hateful to me. As a man, should I be happy that statements about killing men are considered “jokey”. If that’s the case then i have a couple of fine jokes about raping women that will have you laughing your asses off. Or would that be offensive? So now you’re “reaching out” to these women.
The recent conclusion that men’s rights is less popular than horse porn because of the popularity of search engine searches is actually quite stupid and incorrect, but none of your readers seemed to notice. It’s like saying that there’s less cargo being shipped over the Pacific because fewer ships passed through the Panama canal less year. It’s a complete non-sequitor. People are far more internet savvy in 2012, and even occasional users like myself know that most people skip internet searches and just click through to their favourite sources for news and entertainment or use longtail search terms to find what they are looking for. However, this is the type of stupidity that this site publishes. Anybody with a logical bent would rip apart half the “articles” on here. David Futrelle seems like one of those fellows who just craves the admiration of women. It seems pretty obvious, otherwise he would have “reached out” to those highschool kids that Jezebel exposed after the election, but that would do nothing to enhance his status among the wimmenfolk, so it’s a non issue here.
As for some of the commenter’s insistence that these women have been “doxxed”, it just goes to show that they have no problem throwing around words that they don’t understand.
I found manboobz through someone called Ophelia Benson (I think that’s her name), who’s name I found on Jezebel (maybe) or some site like that.

Not everyone here is a woman. Some of us just enjoy mocking misogyny. Feel free to join us.

OK, for the sake of this argument we’re going to assume that ‘jokey’ threats against men and women are equal. However, if I heard one of my female friends joking about killing or raping men, I would tell them that’s not cool and to knock it off, same as if the genders were reversed. Because it isn’t cool.

However, if someone then decided that an appropriate response to these jokes would be to track down the hypothetical friend’s place of residence and/or threaten them in turn, I would offer emotional support to said hypothetical friend, because threatening someone over a tasteless ‘joke’ is massively over the top. OK?

There’s also the fact that a generalised attack (e.g. ‘kill all men’) is less threatening than a personal attack, even if both are meant in a jokey manner.

If you really think it¡s so easy to rip apart the articles here, why don’t you give it a try?
Also, enlighten us: What do you think doxxing means?

I think you’ll find that some of us have said that, yeah, some of those jokes are Not OK, while not supporting the bullying and harrassment of the people who made them.

There’s also something of a difference in cultural context between “kill all men hail satan” and a rape joke; we don’t live in a culture that normalises sacrificing men to your demonic overlords.

Hey! mark stopped by and said we have more hate than a voice for men. Oh no! I must change my thinking on this feminism thing.

said no one on the thread.

He’s the one wearing t-shirts with rape jokes on them. Y’know, teaching his son the important things in life.

“However, if someone then decided that an appropriate response to these jokes would be to track down the hypothetical friend’s place of residence and/or threaten them in turn,”

Please point me to where anybody on AVFM said they would do this. You have simply built up a strawman and proceeded to knock it down.

“Also, enlighten us: What do you think doxxing means?”

Here’s a good definition – it hasn’t made it into Oxford or Webster’s yet – too new I guess
“Personal information about people on the Internet, often including real name, known aliases, address, phone number, SSN, credit card number, etc.”
What AVFM has done is taken public information – already available to the public and rebroadcast it. There’s a big difference between exposing and doxxing.

“If you really think it¡s so easy to rip apart the articles here, why don’t you give it a try?”
I just might thanks. Maybe set up a blog to do so.

“There’s also something of a difference in cultural context between “kill all men hail satan” and a rape joke; we don’t live in a culture that normalises sacrificing men to your demonic overlords.”
I would disagree wholeheartedly. Too bad you can’t ask the 158 Canadian men (compared to 3 women) who died in Afghanistan.

“Mark posts wall of hypocritical text.”

OK, sure, it’s hypocritcal. Point out the hypocrisy then. I’m offended that I’m merely hypocritical and not a full blown “woman hater” yet.
