The Men’s Rights Movement: Much Less Popular Than Horse Porn

horseanddude2

When you spend as much time as we do here at Man Boobz scrutinizing the Men’s Rights movement, it’s easy to forget what a fringe phenomenon it is. So here are some charts from Google Trends – charting the frequency of certain search terms from 2004 until today — that help to put it all in perspective. (Thanks to Katz, Cloudiah and Cthulhu’s Intern in the comments for inspiring this post.)

That “rapidly growing” Men’s Rights movement that MRAs like to talk about? It may actually be stagnant or even shrinking, if searches for “men’s rights” are any indication. Despite a recent comeback, they’re still less than half of what they were at their height in 2004.

gtMR

Now let’s put that in perspective.

gtMLP

No, there’s nothing wrong with that graph; it’s just that My Little Pony is so much more popular than Men’s Rights that the latter simply vanishes into the X axis.

But this graph is my favorite:

gthorseporn

Well, nothing will top that, but here’s a graph showing that people are a lot more concerned about misogyny than misandry — and, I would add, for good reason.

gtmisandry

Let’s see what other trends we can find!

(Oh, and sorry about the low quality pics; WordPress won’t let me embed the charts.)

Okay, nose-picking is also considerably more popular that Men’s Rights: http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=men%27s%20rights%2C%20nose%20picking&cmpt=q

I’ll bet that massive spike in late 2012 for “misogyny” was due to Julia Gillard’s (Australian Prime Minister) smackdown of the opposition leader Tony Abbott for being a sexist misogynist.

This is such a joy-buzz 😀

The world’s interested in FGM is consistently higher than male circumcision. http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=male%20circumcision%2C%20female%20genital%20mutilation&cmpt=q

I showed the title to my roommate without context. She said I should tell the Avengers fandom.

Weird, but what I notice most is how BIZARRE that horse’s proportions are. Then again, I was recently looking at draft and shire horse pics, and they’re the BOOFIEST of horses.

Lurker here! Red letter media and star wars are more poopular than the MRM! This is distinctly fabulous; a *fandom* is more culturally relevant then a “movement.”

People are more concerned about having itchy bottoms than Men’s rights: http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=Men%27s%20rights%2C%20pruritus%20ani&cmpt=q . If you dumb the medical terminology down and just say “itchy anus”, then botty-scratching takes quite a leap: http://www.google.com/trends/explore#q=Men%27s%20rights%2C%20itchy%20anus&cmpt=q

🙂

I’m having fun but I need to WORK.

Also, brisbane has the highest MRA searches for Australia? I am disappoint, Queensland.

Your whole argument is a non-sequitor. Just because the specific search term “men’s rights” is typed less frequently into search engines does not mean there’s less interest in the topic. If you follow SEO, you would be aware that long tail search terms are used far more frequently than in 2004, so other terms surrounding men’s rights have gained tremendously.

Secondly, more men bypass search engines altogether as they click straight through to their favourite sites and get the information they are seeking straight from those sites without having to make a preliminary search on a search engine.

Like many other posts I have read on this site, your logic is terribly flawed.

@Bagelsan

Holy moly.. These posts almost made me puke. What was Schroeder thinking when she decided to endorse(yes, because that’s the message she’s sending) these predators and their revolting stories?

I should’ve obeyed the trigger warning…

Apparently toenail fungus is also far more interesting than any of the standard MRA issues.

I guess he question becomes “What ISN’T a greater priority hat he whining of MRAs.?

Bagelsan: I am so goddamned irritated at those posts.

Looks like ALL THE THINGS are more interesting than men’s rights.

@Mark

Haha yes how dare we not exhaustively search all keywords while mocking a hate movement. Truly we are inferior before the mighty logic of a group of people who define themselves by their desire to make rape and child abuse legal.

How will our self esteem ever recover from such a blow?
