On Popes, PUAs, The Pill and the Alpha A-hole Cock Carousel

I'm pretty sure this is nt how birth control actually works.
I’m pretty sure this isn’t how birth control actually works.

You might think that Pickup Artists, dudes obsessed with sexing up the young fertile lasses, would be huge fans of contraceptives – which, after all, are what makes their particular lifestyle possible. But some prominent PUAs are about as enthusiastic about contraception as a Pope.

In the case of the charming fellow who calls himself Heartiste, I mean this literally. In a recent posting, he quotes approvingly from Pope Paul VI’s 1968 Humanae Vitae dissing contraceptives for allegedly demeaning the women that use them. Paul suggested that contraception may cause men to

lose respect for the woman and, no longer caring for her physical and psychological equilibrium, may come to the point of considering her as a mere instrument of selfish enjoyment, and no longer as his respected and beloved companion.

I’m no Pope, but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t work that way.

Heartiste, for his part, embraces and extends this line of reasoning, adding in some of that Alpha-Beta-Schmeta nonsense that manosphereians seem to regard as cutting edge science.

[A]s cheap contraceptives silently and subtly move men toward devaluing women, so too does the technology move women toward devaluing beta males, those bitter losers in the sexual market (note: I did not say marriage market or child market) for whom contraceptives, coupled with female economic self-sufficiency, have rendered them practically superfluous as primetime sexual partners.

The mass-produced condom and the Pill have freed men from feeling obligation for women as much as they have freed women to regularly and blithely pursue what was historically risky sex with caddish alpha males on the make.

The contraceptive is, in practice, a female hypergamy facilitator.

Yep, that’s right: contraceptives are the tickets to the mythical Alpha Asshole Cock Carousel.

But poor Heartiste has impaled himself on the horns of a dilemma. He’s got a good anti-woman rant going, but there’s just one problem with it: he’s devoted his life to becoming one of those Alpha Assholes that contraceptive-using women purportedly cannot resist riding.

It’s funny for me to write this, because contraceptives have, in fact, been very very good to me. I did a back of the envelope calculation and figured that my aggregate sex life would have been truncated by 90% if contraceptives were prohibitively expensive, unreliable and hard to get. A world in which women had to grapple with real, palpable fears of STDs, pregnancy and subsequent abandonment is, not to put too fine a point on it, a really shitty world for womanizers and serial monogamists and uncomplicated lovers of the art of seduction itself. I imagine I’d have to *gasp* start promising marriage or some such claptrap to any woman I wanted to bang, just to loosen her up enough to unhook her bra.

Spoken like a true asshole.

Oh, but don’t worry, Heartiste isn’t going to stop attacking sex-having women as one of the harbingers of “the cultural and technological juggernaut that hastens, if it is not the sole cause of, the death of Western civilization.”

Indeed, Heartiste almost seems to relish the ironies of his position, as it allows him to spew forth some of the silliest purple prose you’re ever going to find outside the pages of bad romance novels (or comments from our friend Steele):

Here I am, standing at the edge of the abyss, pointing into its bowels like a histrionic jester, leading the ignorant and the deluded to peer into the void and imploring them — no, more precisely taunting them — to heed my warning of their desolate future… and still I cavort insouciantly along its lip, secretly relieved that no one will seriously weigh my prophecies.

Well, at least he’s right about that “histrionic jester” bit.

Last I checked, Heartiste’s post had spawned 450 comments. I can’t bring myself to look through them to see what further horrors can be found there.

EDITED TO ADD: You should all be aware that our lovely Alpha Asshole Cock Carousel illustration is available in t-shirt form! As is the Mammoth! And a delightful Cupcake as well! And you’re in luck! Steele, we don’t have to slander “the Movement,” it slanders itself pretty much by existing.

MRAs are a peaceful movement; indeed, our spiritual guide is Martin Luther King Jr.

Truly ironic, coming from a group that on the whole has no use for men of color.

So we all know that Steele is lulz trolling, right? It is quite literally not possible for anyone to say the stuff he does and mean it, plus there’s no way anyone can write the way he does unless it’s on purpose. Anyone who wasn’t lulz trolling would be too self-conscious to still write that way after all the mockery we’ve aimed at his, um, unique writing style.

Now, normally I’d go oh well, lulz trolls are ubiquitous. But in this particular conversation he has crossed the line – many things are up for lulz trolling, but not an actual massacre.

Am I the only person who wants to see him banned? Because he was amusing for a while, but I’m kind of done at this point.

“are you saying this excuses the coming wave of violence against straight white men?”

No.

I’m saying there is currently a wave of violence against women.

And you don’t even care.

This is why you’re a hate movement of one, Steele. Because the only violence that matters to you is violence against you, and you can handily excuse the rest.

WTF does the author of Redshirts have to do with hating straight white males? Is this because he called out the ReaderCon Committee for not following their own harassment policy?

howardbann1ster

No, it’s because he writes a blog called Whatever, and he mentioned that straight white men have privilege.

Lepine had severe mental problems; he was in no way connected to the Movement. The Movement did not even exist upon such time of Lepine’s vyle acts.

If somebody slaughters men because they hate men, will you accept it when the feminists — who run a peaceful movement whose members have been abused and slaughtered — say that the criminal is not representative of their movement? Or do they still get the blood on their hands?

You don’t get to have it both ways, Steele. Either the manosphere is responsible for its outliers, or the feminists are not responsible for their outliers.

EXCUSE ME? I invite you to point me toward one single MRA who has ever commended Lepine. You are lying, and you are being untruthful to slander a human rights movement. You rank liar. Disgusting.

Here you go:

Now, I fully expect you to go into full on frothing “No True Scotsman!” mode. Or, moral coward that you are, you’ll either say that these are all the work of feminist plants, or that the writers are all trolling, bending under the pressure of our misandric society.

Have at it, dipshit.

When he started calling me vyle, I kinda felt like a hero in some kind of steampunk adventure story for a little bit, facing the villain in his lair. That was fun.

Other than that, yeah, he’s a total bore.

Nobinyamu – Yes you are indeed, and without a doubt, correct – those links are wrong. However, it says nothing about the mainstream Movement; I condemn those individuals and I can do no more.

cloudiah

It’s your movement that writes an essay about Marc Lépine that is really just an excuse to make excuses for a massacre.

[Lépine] was, however a single, early example of what may happen in a society which has no lawful framework for redress of grievance. When humans cannot resolve grievance through the courts, because for half the population, the courts provide no accountability – what is left is retributive violence. I’ll say again, this is a bad outcome to be avoided. Unfortunately, I believe it is coming. The ideologues pushing legal non accountability for half the population do so seeking this outcome.

As Cliff used to say, “Nice gender you’ve got there, be a shame if something happened to it.”

Steele, you ignorant, self-delusional, twit.

Marc Lepine, is CELEBRATED BY YOUR MOVEMENT.

That’s our point.

It wasn’t, “a tragedy”, in either the classical sense (A great person brought down by the character flaw which raised them up), or in the modern sense (a horrible, and random event).

Marc Lepine, chose to go and kill women, because they were women and he felt societ owed him something, and they should be deprived of it because he didn’t get what he wanted.

He threw a tantrum which killed 14 women.

And you paper it over with the bland word,”tragedy”.

Misogyny, you’re soaking in it.

So he thinks contraceptives cause men to devalue women?
Isn’t that essentially what he and his crowd do to women already, by treating them as something to obtain and trick/cajole into reluctant sex? It’s not like he’s giving out tips on finding a wife or long-term-relationship candidate. He’s advising guys on how to pick up women for sex – it’s not even a case of “you seem cool, want to get naked?” It’s more like “you fulfill conventional hotness standards and i want to ‘score,’ so let me creep you into going back to my place, hint-hint.” There’s no valuing of the woman happening – other than an appreciation for her vagina, I guess. How are contraceptives going to make this worse?

And then there’s the whole “banging hot women while badmouthing them at every turn FOR DOING WHAT HE WANTS THEM TO DO” thing. Here’s a tip: if you don’t want someone to do something, stop sending out signals to them/trying to trick them into doing that thing. For instance, if you don’t want women having sex exclusively with “alphas” (putting aside the fact that it’s NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS WHO THEY HAVE SEX WITH), and you are an alpha, maybe stop trying to pick up women for sex? And if you like picking up women for sex, maybe don’t bitch about them for having sex with alphas like you? PICK AN ANGLE AND STICK TO IT.

OMG…

Steele declares himself the MOVEMENT.

Those hundreds of other guys praising violence, warning of violence, all that stuff that’s been covered over and over in this blog?

TOTALLY NOT PART OF HIS MOVEMENT OF ONE.

And saying they’re more representative than him is us being dishonest, y’all!!
