Three Links to Destroy Your Faith in Humanity

Seriously, if you’re feeling depressed, don’t read these.

1) Hunter Moore’s ‘Scary as Shit’ Revenge Porn Site Will Map Submitted Photos to People’s Addresses

Remember the guy behind the revenge porn site Is Anyone Up, which enabled assholes to post nude pictures of their exes for a worldwide audience to see? That site’s down, but he’s got a new one about to go up, with a new feature:

Scorned lovers who submit photos of their exes for revenge can now also enable others to physically stalk them by including their addresses along with the photos. HunterMoore.TV will then display the photos on a map. …

“We’re gonna introduce the mapping stuff so you can stalk people,” Mr. Moore gleefully told Betabeat, adding, “I know–it’s scary as shit.”

More here.

2) Creepy ‘Love Surgery’ Performed on New Moms’ Unwitting Vaginas

This isn’t a new story, but Jezebel’s Erin Gloria Ryan has written a horrifying overview of the case of Dr. James C. Burt, a gynecologist who maimed countless women by performing weird, unnecessary, and often quite damaging “vagina tightening” surgery on them without their knowledge or consent over the course of several decades.

Burt’s “Love Surgery” was based on the doctor’s cockamamie idea that women are “structurally inadequate for intercourse” and that the only way to fix their “pathological condition” was through surgery that made the vagina and vulva more penis friendly. He also believed that Love Surgery would turn women into “horny little mice.” In his 1975 book, entitled “Surgery of Love,” Burt … says that “hundreds and hundreds” of women were treated this way, but other sources estimate that the number is actually in the thousands. …

In his tireless efforts to make women more fuckable, he actually ended up causing his patients serious, irreversible damage.

Perhaps most astonishing:

[O]ther doctors and medical professionals knew what Dr. Burt was up to, but did nothing. St. Elizabeth Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, where Dr. Burt practiced, didn’t require medical consent forms for the procedure for the first 12 years it was being performed.

3) When “Men’s Rights” Narratives Kill

Amanda Marcotte writes about a sad story related to Slate’s Dear Prudence in which a man stalked and killed his ex and one of her children – after being alerted to her location by a sympathetic friend, who is now “haunted” by this terrible mistake and its horrifying consequences. As Marcotte notes,

The so-called “men’s rights” movement is very intent on convincing the public that domestic violence is overblown by feminists, and that many to most victims are lying to the police and the courts, who take them at their word because the justice system is supposedly in the thrall of the all-powerful feminist regime. This narrative tends to have a lot of power, because it feeds off long-standing stereotypes of women as deceitful, manipulative gold diggers. Unfortunately, the widespread credulity for anti-feminist ravings about lying women in cahoots with the police does lead to tragedy … .

If you are not already depressed enough by this story, take a look at Domestic Violence Crime Watch, a site that chronicles cases in which domestic violence leads to murder and other violent crimes. While women account for some of the violence, the overwhelming majority of the cases on the site involve male perps and female victims; sometimes children and other family members are harmed or killed as well. Data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics shows clearly that women are far more likely to be murdered by intimates (and exes) than men.  (The one bit of good news in all this:  the number of such murders has been declining for some time.)

If this is all a bit much, here’s a live stream of kittens in action. (Or, at the moment at least, napping.)

Because she’s the hero feminism deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we’ll hunt her, because she can take it. Because she’s not our hero. She’s a vile toad. A misandrist-feminist anti-anti manboobz.. A dark lickspittle.

Maude, there are numerous studies (all using the same problematic DV measuring technique) that suggest women and men are “equal” perps of DV, but in determining that “equality” they essentially treat all violence as the same — so a onetime slap in the face from a woman is essentially counted the same as repeated beatings that put a woman in the hospital. Women are far more likely to end up in the hospital because of DV than men are.

The studies cited by MRAs also often count self-defense as violence. So if Partner A is repeatedly slamming Partner B’s head into a wall, and B shoves or hits A while trying to escape, they’re both guilty of abuse.

Steele– Did your ex-girlfriend give any reasons for thinking the MRM is misogynist? What were they?

Dude, my name is “Oobz.” You’re supposed to just use the last four letters.

That would make Steele “Eele”, thus creating a neat transition from something firm and decisive to something slippery and evasive.

Is Steele the dude who complained that he couldn’t get into writing because … misandry?

Yes. Apparently the teacher refused to teach him how to write because writing is exclusively for girls.

Now if a teacher of mine had said something so asinine and demonstrably untrue, I’d have launched into full-on smartass mode, raided my parents’ bookshelves and brought in a vast pile of counter-evidence the next day and plonked it on her desk in front of the whole class – but Steele, gullible simpleton that he is, seems to have swallowed it hook, line and sinker, and apparently didn’t realize the truth until it was too late.

Of course, the alternative explanation is that the teacher recognized that teaching him to write was a completely lost cause and tried to devise a more tactful explanation than “you’re a terrible writer and you’ll always be a terrible writer because of your painful lack of self-awareness”.

I feel her pain right now, because an acquaintance of mine is pressing me for advice on how to break into writing as a career – which is hard enough to do in the current climate even if you’re good. Sadly, he’s dreadful, to an extent that requires heavy-duty editorial work on pretty much every sentence. So I’m gently trying to discourage him by telling him the truth about the state of freelance writers’ incomes right now because… well, I don’t want to hurt his feelings and I’d rather someone else did it. But even as I wrote that last sentence I’m not at all sure that that’s the best course of action!

The Kittehs' Unpaid Help

Wetherby, that acquaintance of yours reminds me of my first boss. His writing was unbelievably bad – not in the same way as Steele, with his pomposity, punctuation abuse and strings of synonymous adjectives, but verging on unintelligible. There were times I’d take something he’d written and have to ask him what the hell he meant, because it wasn’t in English, it was in Alspeak (Al being his name). We used to joke in the office that he was a prophet who was speaking in tongues. The twist of that was that he was a born-again Christian of the speaking-in-tongues variety, and it was other members of the same church who were joining in with the jokes!

There’s also the fact, judgybitch, that on several occasions when cases of men killing their wives and children and others have been reported that the MRM have been quick to try and excuse their behavior.

They talk about how these men have been “driven” to it by an apparently evil, feminist court system or because they’ve been cruelly treated by the wives or girlfriends who left them.

They also all rushed to defend that guy who shot a load of complete strangers, young women, in a gym because apparently he hadn’t been laid in a long time and apparently it wasn’t his fault but he’d been driven to it by the cruel women who had refused to let him access their vaginas.

The MRM loves nothing better than to excuse and validate violence towards women by men.

Killing your spouse and children is awful. But the “both sides do it” ignores the salient fact: men do it a fuck of a lot more than women. Also, the women who do it tend to be psychotic, whereas the men who do it tend to have “rational” reasons. Satan is infecting my children vs. I just lost my job and my family can’t live without me/if I can’t have that bitch no one can.

But yeah, totally the same. Nothing to see here, just crazy misandric feminists.

judgybitch, it is also worth mentioning that the piece David brought up was written by Amanda Marcotte who had to resign from the Edward’s campaign a few years back. She claimed it was due to an “anti-feminist shitstorm”, as opposed to causing harm to the falsely accused.
Well, I guess if a man is accused then shoot first and ask questions later. That’s good enough for Amanda Marcotte and good enough for David.
