Men’s Rights Posters Now Officially Sillier Than Their Parodies

It’s hard to parody Men’s Rights Activists, because no matter how ridiculous your parody is, there’s a good chance that some MRA out there has already said, or written, or sung, something even more ridiculous already.

Not that long ago, a bunch of Man Boobz regulars set out to parody the bizarre, and often inadvertently surrealistic, posters that have been popping up on MRA sites like A Voice for Men and Artistry Against Misandry. It was hard, but I think some of us managed to come up with posters that were even uglier and less coherent than the originals. I especially liked these two, from (respectively) Cliff Pervocracy and Sir Bodsworth Rugglesby III.

But alas, we have been outmaneuvered by the all-too-serious poster-makers on A Voice for Men, who have managed to produce posters that make even less sense than our silliest parodies. Take a look at this one, which I believe is the work of an Australian MRA by the name of Roger O. Thornhill.

I mean, really. How can we compete with that?

This is an actual poster that some MRAs think will actually win people over to their cause.  How, I’m not exactly sure. What exactly about a cupcake with a tiara is supposed to scream “men’s rights”  to random pedestrians who might catch a glimpse of this poster wheatpasted to a hoarding while on their way to work?

For more of Roger’s fine work, see here and here.

Man Boobzers, can you do better?

Or, if you’re not up to that Herculean task, could you at least try to explain just what exactly you think Mr. Thornhill was trying to say with that poster of his?

EDITED TO ADD: I have been asked to contribute a poster myself. So here one is. You can find many more hilarious and incredibly ugly posters at ArtistryForFeminismAndKittens and, of course, in the comments below!

@Cassandra – congratulations on trying to turn away from the ISSUE to ad hominem. “oh, you cruel heartless blahblah how could you, the chiiiiildren”.

What I would or would not CHOOSE to do in an “oops” baby situation, IF there were legal OPTIONS available to me is no-one’s business but mine / the woman / the kid. The point is CHOICE. Right now, men have NONE, men are coerced into supporting whatever CHOICE the woman makes, one way or another. I want men to have CHOICES, just like women have CHOICES in that situation. What each individual man CHOOSES to do would be on his own conscience.

Perhaps this is ringing a bell? You may recall the argument that Pro-Choice is not the same as Pro-Abortion? That. Exactly fucking that. That is all.

@Whoeverthefuckdickitwas –
Condoms have a failure rate.
No procedure that involves making cuts or injections to the bollocks can be said to be in any way shape or form to be equivalent to the convenience and ease of administration of the female pill.
As to “go to India and get RISUG”. If any man were to argue that women should just FLY TO FUCKING INDIA FOR CONTRACEPTION there’d be the most epic mother of all shitstorms all over the media about it! There’d be fucking marches and protests, and it would be WORLD FUCKING NEWS. And yet you feel totally smug and safe saying the same thing to men. Misandrist bigot.

Misandrist bigot.

First Joe, couldn’t you just copy pasta that silliness everywhere and save us all a lot of time? It’s shorter than the screeds, and about equally meaningful.

I DO have a problem with Amused’s sick idea that the disowning father make a VIDEO stating such and the kid be forced to watch it. That’s just fucking sick.

How is it sick? It’s the truth, no? Are you opposed to exposing the kid to the truth?

Bagelsan

Well, it would have to be a video instead of a letter, right? I wouldn’t count on written coherency from an MRA. And the poor child shouldn’t be subjected to such butchery of the language…

Can’t find a link right now, so feel free not to believe, BUT. I vaguely recall reading about a study that found that men’s enthusiasm for the pill decreased sharply when they were informed that the male pill would have the same side effects and inconveniences as the female pill:

– increased risk of cancer and stroke, especially for smokers
– weight gain with some pills
– acne problems
– decreased libido
– the necessity to take the pill every day, at the same time of the day, without fail, even when you are not sexually active
– the necessity to see a doctor and undergo a full check-up before receiving a prescription
– the fact that it takes about a month for enough hormones to build up in your system to be fully protected from unwanted pregnancy
– the fact that it takes as long as three months for fertility to be fully restored once you get off the pill.

@Fitzy (it was you ranting about just fly to India wasn’t it).

Let me just burst your smug, well heeled SWPL yuppie bubble there mate.

There are MILLIONS of men, incluing me, who NEVER buy stupid overpriced bullshit coffee and who only eat out like once a fucking year – because…. we can’t afford that shit.

My monthly budget to live / eat / pay rent / bills is about £500 (about $800) and it’s a squeak to earn that (some month’s I fall short, times are hard). And I am LUCKY because I hapen to have lucked into a verrry cheap spot to live in, and I have arranged my life so I can manage without a car, or any transport other than my feet or a bicycle.

Most people in the UK would need to DOUBLE that take home (so £1,000 per month) just to pay for their dirt basics. Add in running a car? Especially with spiralling insurance and fuel costs? Another +50% on top of that.

Minimum wage here is about £6, so gross on a 40 hour week would be about £240, and monthly gross before tax would be about £960. Which means the vast majority of people outside the small rump of the professional classes are barely making ends meet, if that, from one month to the next.

And you think another £250 a month is basically pocket change?
Check your class privelege asshole.

The problem with a sworn statement, as far as I am concerned, is that it may not be enough to establish beyond reasonable doubt in the child’s mind that he was not wanted. The father can always claim later that the statement is a form prepared by a lawyer, and that he just signed it along with a bunch of other papers and wasn’t necessarily subscribing to the precise wording. He can even allege that the mother “slipped” the statement to him among a stack of documents in a scheme to make it appear as if the father didn’t want the kid. To avert such a situation, it is necessary for the father to actually say the words — on camera — so as to leave no doubt as to his intentions.

@Amused – your vague recollections are out of date – there’s at least two different non-hormonal versions of the male pill in development now.

Amused

First Joe: The point still stands. The pill is not nearly as convenient or as harmless as you make it seem. That’s why so many women opt for IUD’s and injections.

@Amused – Until I hear you demanding the EXACT same for ALL WOMEN who give up their kids in whatever fashion I call SEXIST BULLSHIT. You misandrist bigot.

Also, more sexist bullshit from you:

“- the necessity to take the pill every day, at the same time of the day, without fail, even when you are not sexually active”
Why do you imagine this would be a problem for men?
Especially in the 21st century with alarms on phones?

“- the necessity to see a doctor and undergo a full check-up before receiving a prescription”
Oh, yeah that’s right, teh menz are too stoopid to go see the doctor amiright??
Sexist bigot.

@inurarse – Fuck off, bigot.

Shaenon

Yeah…but if you make $800 a month, you will not be required to pay $400 in child support. The payments are based on your income. That’s why the median support payment is significantly lower than the mean, incidentally; most child support payments are very low (a lot of court-ordered support involves families living at or below the poverty line) but the average is skewed by very wealthy people who make large payments.

Our house. YOU fuck off.

Fuck off with your empty invective and meaningless curses, your cherry-picking, false parallels, and sad attempts to expose those nasty feminists as the REAL bigots.

You bring nothing to the table, little man. You are bursting no bubbles, righting no wrongs. We’re here to entertain ourselves and you’re boring. Go away.

@Amused – Until I hear you demanding the EXACT same for ALL WOMEN who give up their kids in whatever fashion I call SEXIST BULLSHIT. You misandrist bigot.

Sure, in cases where women who give up kids retain the ability to track those kids down because they know the parents’ identity, I am all for it. But as adoptions are anonymous and women who give up their kids have no way of locating them (at least under US law), it simply isn’t necessary.

Why do you imagine this would be a problem for men?
Especially in the 21st century with alarms on phones?

I don’t know, maybe because it’s too much trouble? Taking care of unwanted pregnancy and organizing this small domestic stuff have both traditionally been considered women’s shit to death with, so apparently, it’s still a problem for a considerable number of men. Also, men don’t carry purses, which is misandry.

Oh, yeah that’s right, teh menz are too stoopid to go see the doctor amiright??
Sexist bigot.

Well, don’t we hear all the time about how teh menz are too busy with important stuff to see doctors, while lazy bonbon-eating bitchez lounge around in doctors’ offices all day? So apparently, I’m a sexist bigot if I point out that men are perfectly capable of going to a doctor, and I’m a sexist bigot if I point out that men apparently aren’t. Maybe just having a vagina just makes a “sexist bigot”, and that’s all there is to it.

Can we go back to posters? Posters were funny.

cloudiah

Also, in my discussion with Cloudiah I addressed the issue of how late in the game a man might be permitted legally to excercise this option and I agreed with her that some form of financial penalty (child support) should be payable by anyone leaving it past a certain point.

I see it’s the ARGLEBARGLE version of Joe who’s showed up today. “I agreed with her” in the above statement makes it sound like (a) this was something I had proposed and you agreed with, and (b) that we were in agreement on this point. In fact, you proposed this financial penalty, and nowhere did I say I agreed with your underlying point that the man could decide to have a “financial abortion” at any point, including after the child is born. I find that proposal ethically troubling, and practically unworkable.

But now I am done talking to you. You are bringing nothing interesting or new to the discussion. This thread is about posters. I will not continue any discussions with trolls until they have produced a creative and/or funny poster that is on topic.

More like it’s another hurdle to getting birth control. If you don’t have insurance that’s a huge hurdle. $175 minimum just to get a prescription for a medication that’s then going to cost even MORE money…

+1 to moderating Joe… sorry, J0e.

How can you be bothered to write a few thousand words of hatescrawl yet not realise that $400 =/= £400 and that there’s a sliding scale of child support depending on what people earn?

Bloody nitwit.
