Romney: Defeated by sluts?

Slut voters slutting it up

Leave it to the Men’s Rightsers to come up with an even more ingeniously loopy explanation for Romney’s defeat than even Karl Rove has managed to come up with. According to the anonymous blogger behind the Christian Men’s Defense Network blog, on the far-right fringe of the already pretty fringey Men’s Rights movement, the thing that brought Romney down was “the slut vote.”

Let’s let Mr. Christian Men’s Defense Network explain:

[T]he Democrats tried to make this election about a single issue:

The right to slut.

Or more precisely, the right to slut without the responsibility of consequences.  The famous “gender gap” isn’t really a gap based on gender.  The right overwhelmingly wins older and married women.

But, alas, these fine, moral, married ladies are increasingly being challenged by younger, sluttier single gals.

[M]arried women constitute an ever-decreasing share of the female population.  Women want to delay marriage as long as possible so they can “have it all,” and usually “have it all” means “have as much hot alpha sex as possible without any consequences.”  And thus, less married women and more sluts

And so, Mr. CMDN concludes,

The “gender gap” should more accurately be called the slut vote.

In order to understand the Democrats’ evil (and successful) strategy to win over the slut vote, Mr. CMDN explains, we need to understand how they won over blacks. And yes, his explanation is racist as fuck:

Democrats have won the black vote because the black community is dominated by illegitimacy, and the Democrats are willing to subsidize and support that illegitimacy (as well as provide access to cheap abortions) so as to take away from sluts the consequences of their actions.  Consequently, young black people grow up on the dole and not only never realize there might be something wrong with that, but eventually come to believe that’s the way it should be.  The Democrats have won the black vote by first “empowering” single black mothers.

But now, you see, this kind of “illegitimacy” is spreading amongst white – or at least white sluts.

This is now beginning to happen in white suburbia, except unlike women in the urban black community, white suburban sluts start from a place of relative wealth and privilege (daddy’s little princess).  Thus, food stamps–and increased rewards for having illegitimate kids while on food stamps–don’t (yet) appeal to them.

So instead Obama appealed to rich white sluts by forcing someone else (the Catholic church, in this case) to pay for their birth control, and by scaring them about alleged threats to their ability to take advantage of Planned Parenthood’s services (Planned Parenthood being conveniently located in the minority part of town, of course, so as to provide anonymity to visiting white girls whose white girl friends never go over there–except to visit Planned Parenthood themselves).

All the Democrats had to do to win over these slutty white gals was to frighten them a little:

One thing one has to remember about women, especially slutty ones:  They usually don’t make decisions based on reason.  So all the Obama administration had to do was scare them that Mitt Romney was going to take away their birth control and their access to abortion.  The fear for them is that, without birth control and abortion, they might actually get pregnant and have to give birth.  That is scary not simply because of the economic burden of having a child (since, hey, they can get all kinds of cash and prizes if that happens), but because if that happened then everyone would know they’re sluts, and their image as daddy’s pure little snowflake princess goes out the window.

Having just told us that “the “gender gap” should more accurately be called the slut vote,” Mr. CMDN now tells us that there’s more to the gender gap than mere sluttiness.

[T]he desire to slut it up isn’t the only factor in the gender gap.  America has a fiscal problem primarily because women want free stuff without ever having to work.  America is over-regulated because women don’t want to have to compete in the free market.  America has profound moral problems in part because the rationalization hamster makes it impossible for 54% of the American electorate to ever admit a moral shortcoming.

However, this election cycle shows that the Slut Vote is real, and Republicans lose because they discount the existence of original sin in women.  Abortion is often called the “third rail of American politics,” but in truth, the third rail is a woman’s right to slut (with cash and prizes).

One thing one has to remember about MRAs, especially shitty ones: The world they live in bears only a passing resemblance to reality.

And apparently, Mr. CMDN can only take so much reality: he took his blog private after this post of his was mentioned on Jezebel, which is why I had to link to the Google cached version rather than the blog itself.

Btw, regarding the meaning of words… Even if we suppose, for the sake of argument, that “slut” in the UK really does mean someone who’s sloppy, it doesn’t make the word non-offensive in the US.

There are loads of words that mean one thing in one context and another thing in another context, which means that there are also words that are insulting in one context and neutral in another context. If A is an insult in context X and neutral in context Y, you can’t use A in context X and then angrily tell people who object to it that “In context Y everyone says A and nobody complains” since that’s IRRELEVANT.

Take the word “whore” for instance. It can be used as a neutral job description. There was a prostitute here in Sweden who used to blog a lot about feminism and sex workers rights, and she always used the word “whore”, like “there’s nothing wrong with being a whore”, or “I don’t feel ashamed of having chosen to be a whore”. Clearly, in that context, the word isn’t insulting. That doesn’t mean you could tell a girl who’s bullied in school by people shouting “WHOOOOORE!” at her that she isn’t REALLY bullied, because it’s REALLY just a job description. It’s NOT a job description in THAT context.

Or take the Swedish word “fitta”. Nowadays it translates as “cunt”. In ancient Swedish though, it meant a damp meadow. Obviously it’s completely irrelevant to point out the origin of the word if someone is bullied by people calling her a “fitta”.

It’s exactly the same thing with a word that means one thing in the UK and another thing in the US.

The more of this crap I read the more I become convinced that people like Mr. Christian Men’s Defense Network just can’t handle the idea of women being able to enjoy sex, and that Romney et al appeal to these people by promising to punish any women who refuses to repress her sexuality. “consequences” is the giveaway here- if MRAs are so obsessed with “consequences”, why aren’t they also campaigning to deny retroviral drugs to HIV patients, and why are they so excited by the concept of the male pill which would essentially allow men to “slut around” without “consequences”? Is it because they’re hypocrites or because they hold double standards? Oh of course- it’s both!

So, much agreement. These men are mad at “alphas” (again WTF does that mean) for getting sex and women for giving it to someone other than them. However, if they were the ones having all the sex they would still be judgmental of the women having sex.

It doesn’t matter how much sex a woman is having because in their eyes all women are whores. Thus how the can be such rape apologist thinking women deserve it. This mentality needs to be stomped out. However, due to its prevalence in porn I doubt it will.

Great points Melody- and of course they’re rape apologists, rape’s alright because it’s a form of sex women don’t enjoy, where she gets nothing out of it and the man gets everything- in other words, the perfect MRA fantasy. Best of all, even though she didn’t consent he still gets to call her a slut afterwards- see the fallout from the Ched Evans case as just one of the more recent examples.

This reminds me a little of the PIP breast implant scandal, in which thousands of women were given implants filled with unsafe industrial-grade silicone. The UK’s private clinics which implanted them are refusing to replace them, leaving the NHS (and the British taxpayer) to pick up the tab. I got so depressed reading comment after comment arguing that women should get NHS treatment if they’d had implants “for the right reasons” (ie, older women having reconstructive surgery after mastectomies for breast cancer) but that it should be denied to women who’d had them for “the wrong reasons” (ie, vain young sluts trying to make themselves look more sexual in an attempt to get more cock). There were plenty of suggestions that the women in this latter category should be left to suffer the consequences (that word again) as punishment (and that one) for their vanity- never mind that a lifetime of stress, health problems or even death seems a rather harsh punishment for vanity. Or that women having reconstructive surgery are also “vain”- it’s unnecessary surgery in any case and many cancer patients don’t opt for it.

There seems to be this idea of virtue making women more deserving of medical treatment- breast cancer patients are allowed to be a bit vain and slutty as they’ve earned a few virtue points to cancel it out, plus they tend to be older women and as no-one wants to bang them and old people don’t have sex they can’t possibly be doing it to slut around anyway. Women having implants for any other reason (and those judging them like to forget that there are many reasons) are lumped together in one big slutty pile and told they deserve everything they get. Never mind that “slutty” women pay taxes too, and that the NHS spends plenty of public money on people with self-inflicted lung cancer, heart disease, drug addiction, alcohol-related injuries from fights and road accidents… there’s still a special level of hatred and sneering reserved for women whose breast enlargements go wrong.

Bit of a digression there, but in most cultures there does seem to be this idea that female sexuality needs to be stamped out and any women daring to express it need to be kept in line. It’s amazing to see the MRAs claiming that *male* sexuality is seen as evil, beastly and dangerous when they’re openly encouraged to express it, and that criticism seems to be levelled at female sexuality much more. MRAs certainly seem to fear female sexuality, what are they so frightened of?

btw- on the UK/US thing- I’m British and “slut” now means pretty much the same thing as it does in the US. I think it may be closely related to the word “slattern” which could mean a slovenly woman *or* a prostitute, but now it has more sexual connotations. It’s different from “whore” as it does seem to refer more to a woman who has lots of sex by freely “giving it away” and being “cheap” rather than asking anyone to pay for it. Another slang word we have is “slag”, which means pretty much the same thing.

To me both words are pretty meaningless- you don’t hear them applied to men very often, and when you do it tends to be a double-insult- calling a man promiscuous *and* implying he’s like a woman (like that’s a bad thing). The men using these words seem pretty confused too- do they disapprove of women having sex? Would they like all women to wait for marriage before having sex with them? Do they not enjoy the fact that they now get it far more than their ancestors would have done? I suspect most of them aren’t proud virgins and don’t consider themselves prudes either!

I don’t understand the word slut when used in a derogatory way because what constitutes a slut?

The men using these words seem pretty confused too- do they disapprove of women having sex? Would they like all women to wait for marriage before having sex with them? Do they not enjoy the fact that they now get it far more than their ancestors would have done? I suspect most of them aren’t proud virgins and don’t consider themselves prudes either!

The rules of being slutty only apply to women obviously. Men are superior and it is in the course of nature that they have sex with everything. If women do that they aren’t acting in the best for genetics and therefore are going against nature. Men are special. They LOVE the laws of nature argument.

It doesn’t even matter if you are a virgin. I’m waiting and I’m called a slut sometimes. Apparently, making out with guys makes you a slut. One of my “nice guy” (he confessed to me I rejected him) told me that I was controlled by my urges. And that the fact that I made out with one of his friends made me easy and shallow (his guy friend is sooooo hot). However, he liked me from the first time he met me even though he knew nothing about me. However, HE isn’t shallow, but I am.

That sounds familar, Melody. Ever try explaining to a “nice guy” leech that his affections are shallow? Their eyes go blank and they start thinking about something else, because weirdly, they don’t care what YOU think.
In any event, their just listening to their boners — like all men do (that’s what THEY think), so they’re entitled to choose women for their attractiveness. But can you imagine telling one of these guys that they should like the tom-boyish girl-next-door instead because she’s so nice? And end your arguement with, “Oh, just give her a chaaaaaaance!” The lack of boner excuse would come trotting out, and peers would take this as law.

I was watching this documentary on sex once, and in the middle a narrator declared that women are more likely to have an orgasm with men they find attractive. Yes. File under “Shit Everyone Should Know Already.”

I’ve always thought “slut” and “slag” were very strange insults- anyone using these words is essentially saying “Oh I say- I disapprove or your sexual mores, young madam!”. It seems like a criticism only a vicar or priest would find valid these days, yet I’ve mostly heard it coming from drunk young men who probably wouldn’t dare to admit to being virgins, never mind proudly declare themselves to be chaste.

I’ve had it aimed at myself of course- I’ve been called “you fat slag” more times than I care to remember. This is such a generic British insult it’s hard to take offence- it’s nothing personal, it’s just the default insult a man uses on a woman he wants to upset- and also the name of two characters from the comic book Viz, which may be partly to blame for its popularity as an insult:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fat_Slags

I just find it depressing that we’re expected to find this more hurtful than any other insult- there are a million worse things we could be called, but “I’m afraid your weight puts you outside the category of women I’d consider having sex with” is still meant to be the worst. Do men really think we’re that shallow and that desperate for their approval?

I’m a UK size 12/US size 8, so not skinny but far slimmer than average here. Still, I’ve been called fat by a man whose beergut was bulging over trousers which no longer fitted round it, and I’ve been told “you’ve got a big fat arse” by a man who therefore couldn’t possibly have gauged the size of said arse as I was sitting on it and surrounded by tall grass at the time. Unsurprisingly I’ve also been told “you look like a slut” while wearing an ankle-length wool coat, jumper, jeans, trainers, scarf, hat and gloves, with only a little bit of my face showing- these men probably think women in the burkha are a little underdressed.

Of course this is all because we’re all sluts… but if we’re all sluts, then none of us are sluts! None of us are good enough for MRAs, so they can happily GTOW and we can happily let them.

I’ve heard the inverse of this, the belief that women shouldn’t rule out men on the basis of not finding them attractive because what if he’s actually good in bed so many times, and it’s always left me giving the guy saying it a “WTF have you been smoking?” look. Someone can be technically very skilled, but if I’m looking at him and thinking “nope, nothing, this person just doesn’t do anything for me” then it doesn’t matter because I’m never going to get to the point of orgasm if I’m not turned on in the first place. Biggest sexual organ is the brain, etc. It’s so incredibly weird to me that there are men who don’t get this (selectively, when it applies to women – they have no problem understanding how it applies to themselves) – just because women don’t get erections doesn’t mean that we don’t get aroused, or not, in ways that determine whether or not sex is even worth attempting in a particular case.

About the “slut” thing – as far as I can tell it basically means “woman, you have in some way offended me”. It’s rather striking to me that I’ve been called a slut plenty of times, but not a single one of those times has had anything to do with me having sex. It has, however, often had to do with me declining to have sex, for example when some dude tries to grope you at a bar or catcalls you, you decline or ignore him, and he throws a tantrum and starts screaming “slut!” at you. So apparently “slut” often means “woman who won’t have sex with me”.

@Katz,

If your oven has a self cleaning cycle, this would be a good time to run it. It makes the oven get extremely hot for several hours while it burns off food and grease on the inside. If not, I would roast some chicken or beef. I would have suggested turkey, but next week is Thanksgiving so you might not want it so close together. I hope you have an HVAC person that can help you soon.

Actually, this side of the pond, I have never heard “slattern” mean anything but “slob”, and I have never heard “slut” mean anything but “indiscriminately promiscuous person” (usually female). I remember running into some Britiform piece of literature, long ago, which referred to a “sluttish armchair”, a distinctly strange image. We’d have called it “slovenly”. Meanwhile, to those from the Great Lakes area, the only connotation of “slag” was metallic.

katz- it has to be Mrs Blumenthal’s Cheesecake- and yes, I *am* talking about Heston’s mum here:

http://www.deelishlifenstyle.com/2011/02/mrs-blumenthals-cheesecake/

Let it rise, turn the oven off, let it fall… I replace the cottage cheese with more cream cheese and some sour cream to cut through the richness. Sometimes I replace the vanilla with tonka bean but that stuff is so good it’s banned by the FDA, so get it if you’re outside the US and you can!

…oh yes: and keeping on a Scottish tip (I live in Scotland): use shortbread fingers for the base! Digestive biscuits are good for chocolate cheesecake bases but anything more delicately-flavoured requires a buttery biscuit base:

We seem to have hit that weird time of year where it can be sunny and warm during the day and then cold enough that you start wanting to dig out the fleece hoodies and furry boots at night, huh? The climate here is strange.

Katz, my kitties are very warm and cuddly. Shall I mail them to you so you don’t freeze at night? Also Buster in particular really likes to “help” me write when I’m on my laptop, so she could be very useful to you with NaNoWriMo. (Help, to Buster, means standing on my keyboard and pushing random keys, batting at my fingers, etc.)

I want to mail some homemade quilts to katz. My mother in law makes them and they are so warm and cozy. And if I were in California, I could bring you by some beef stew and hot apple cider to warm you up.

A few weeks ago, we had a day where the temperature dropped forty degrees in just a few hours. Gotta love Missouri weather. Our four seasons are winter, which is the ice storm time (not much snow unfortunately), then spring, or tornado time, then summer, scorching heat and drought time, followed by fall, the pleasant season. Fall is cold, but we have some warm days, and the fall foliage in the Ozarks is beautiful. So the other three yucky seasons are worth it just for fall.

Oh, and the wild variations in the weather will make you have sinus infections all the time. We had friends who moved out to AZ for a while and never had a bit of trouble in the desert, but when they came back here it was back to the constant sinus trouble.

I think we’ve hit “winter” in central TX. It’s in the 50s right now, and supposed to go to the low 40s tonight. This weekend I had the AC on, I think that’s finished for the year.
