Hurricane Sandy Open Thread

Let me second Cloudia in the comments, and say that I hope all East Coast Manboobzers (and their loved ones, and everyone else in the area) is safe and sound and braced for Sandy.

East coasters, use the comments below to check in and let us know how you are! The rest of you, discuss!

Stay safe everyone!

According to the NYT interactive map, the storm will take a left in central NY (hi, mom and dad) before heading up to Montreal. Hopefully Sandy will have slowed her roll before that.

I’m still waffling about Nano. I find the deadlines kind of stress me out, but I want to FINISH one, dagnabbit. I’m Wahoo there.

We’re having a mild blizzard out in the west (probably not technically, but it sure feels like one), and I’m having visions of being snowed in and unable to go to work tomorrow.

Last winter was so mild, it spoiled us. I pity the poor trick or treaters. I especially pity the Jr A hockey team, that stands out at major intersections to make sure the little spooks are safe.

Stay safe, easterners. Stuff can be rebuilt, dead can’t be reversed.

Aside from Sandy Duncan, the only people I know personally named “Sandy” have been male.

dead can’t be reversed.

It’s a well established fact that the zombie apocalypse will not occur in the aftermath of a hurricane.

Hey David. I know you’ve written about her before, but there is a newish scandal revolving around skepchick and this year old video she made regarding the situation of being approached in an elevator by a guy at 4am.

What, apart from the year-long harassment Watson has faced since she posted that video? ‘Cause peeps been up in arms about that since practically the minute she clicked Upload.

I’ve never done NaNoWriMo. I doubt I ever will. I can barely concentrate long enough to scribble down some notes for the next Star*Drive session I’m going to run (although I have plenty of ambition for it).

And anyway, I’m looking to buy a house so I gots somewhere to nurture my brood. November is going to be way too busy, I’m afraid.

Great big hugs to everyone in Sandy’s path!

@2-D Man, on account of zombies can’t swim, and can’t lurch effectively when they’re waterlogged.

In Virginia here. Most of the school systems around me have canceled for tomorrow, and some for Tuesday as well. Work’s not closed for tomorrow, but I have no clients scheduled, and I doubt I’ll get many. It’s only raining and a bit windy here, but it’s supposed to get worse. We’ve got plenty of food and such, so here’s hoping!

NaNo-wise I’m doing it. Attempted it every year since 2003, only won once, in 2010 with a fanfic. But I’m feeling pretty good about my story this year. My username over on those forums is the same as here.
My girlfriend’s done NaNo since 2003, but she’s won every year. >.> Including the year she had a computer glitch twelve days from the end, lost everything and had to start from scratch. I don’t like her very much in November.

Harrisburg, PA here. I live on a mountain, so I’m pretty safe. If the power goes out, I’m just going to take my laptop to the grocery store I work at. They’ve got a hella powerful backup generator. If it floods where I live, though, we might as well build a huge boat and put two of every animal on it.

@Cthulhu’s Intern: Remember to stock up on plenty of eucalyptus … the koalas have a long walk ahead of them.

Delaware County, PA here – it’s raining, but the winds are calm as of 10:36pm EST. I’m hoping I won’t have to argue the point to my boss that opening the office is a bad idea when we can all work from home. Just because I only live ten minutes away from the office doesn’t mean I feel any more safe driving my tiny Yaris through 60mph wind gusts.

If only NaNoWriMo had groups we could form one and hang out and it would be just like here.

No NaNo for me this year – I’m too swamped with work and school and political campaigning and family stuff. Maybe next year!

As for zombie apocalypses, though, this simply must be watched:

Couldn’t we form a NaNoWriMo thread on the forum under Off Topic?

And, oddly enough, Sandy is the name of one of my characters in my novel.

Hurricane Sandy got my Monday bio lab period cancelled/postponed. In the immortal words of Spongebob Squarepants, “I am a happy sponge.”
Also, congrats to everyone doing Nanowrimo (i’m doing it too, for the first time, just saying…)!

(I love popping into the threads of people who know each other but not me, 3rd-wheel style…don’t worry, not a troll, just a really awkward person who likes this blog)

I second the request for a Nano. It will be fifth year–I’m pretty fast writer. I swear it has helped me in college.

I’m on the west coast, so it is raining here, but it will probably rain here for another six months.

For those doing NaNoWriMo, I just started a thread in the forum section. Also, more hugs for East Coasters. 🙂
