Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock: When rape victims get pregnant, “it is something that God intended to happen.”

Here’s Indiana Republican Senate candidate Richard Mourdock, who apparently has some sort of direct line to God, talking about abortion and rape at a debate earlier tonight:

I just struggled with it myself for a long time but I came to realize: Life is that gift from God that I think even if life begins in that horrible situation of rape, that it is something that God intended to happen.

Mourdock has now put out a statement trying to sort of retract what he said, and a spokeswoman for Romney, who has endorsed Mourdock, has distanced the presidential contender from Mourdock’s remarks.  See Politico for more details.

Hell, I just HAD a healthy, totally planned for baby and I do not believe that babies or fetuses or senators should be allowed to gestate in someone’s body without that person’s permission.

I mean, if rape babies are a gift from God, then I guess cancer, murder and insurance fraud are also gifts from the Lord? Do we expect God to foot the bill for maternity leave, prenatal care, and the $10000 plus labor and delivery bill? No? Then STFU.

To explain what Kiwigirl said, where Britiform English is spoken, a fannypack would be a tampon.

Thank you all for the well wishes!

You know that false labor that I was sent gone for? Apparently that is real labor for me. So I went home until I absolutely could not stand it and was totally miserable and finally went back in around midnight on the 23rd.

Apparently, I had gone from 1.5 cm to 9 cm in only a couple hours and was so close to pushing that they didn’t even have time to put in an IV and had to draw blood while I was moaning through some large contractions. Then finally I was 10 cm and pushed for like 10 minutes and there she was! Full head of hair and totally awake and alert and on my tummy, rooting around adorably.

I did not plan for “natural” childbirth (my water actually never broke and the doctor had to do it once I was ready to push), but other than the crazy pain in feeling the baby come out (I only had like two stitches but owwww), I actually feel like I am recovering faster this time. I did not bleed as much this time and I basically feel like myself again.

But I still do not think that anyone should be forced to go through pregnancy or childbirth against their will.

Sorry for the TLDR;…….
Anyway…And what asshats like this always say is that every sperm is sacred and every woman raped pregnant should be forced to keep it but then they slash funding for maternity care, support big insurance companies who wont cover basic maternity costs, and fight against any sort of paid or supported maternity/paternity leave that would give people the resourses and time to care for their WANTED babies!

Sacred, my ass. The only thing that this guy finds sacred are the under the table donations he gets for his campaign from big business.

I doubt her message will get through to him, because depriving women of choice is what he and his ilk are all about.
